i know this has been discussed in the pass,

i currently have these hooked up using a jvx-s111
comcast hd box
sony progressive dvd player
ps2
need to hook up these as well,
gamecube w/component cables
dvd recorder panasonic dmr-e50 just picked this up at target in clearance for $215.
i'll probably pick up a xbox in the near future,

i've tried the composite selector trick as well as the pelican selector pro, but are there any selectors due out with auto detect plus optical or coaxial imputs that can handle most evergrowning component home theater systems?

Audio Authority Model 1155. Over $150.

thanks but that model is for composite video, i'm looking for a selector which can handle component hookups, at least 6.

Sorry, all I did was a quick search on the net. As far as needing that many component inputs for game consoles, I hope he is not unimpressed with the quality. and availability of content.

The one that Brian recommended is great! I bought one to switch my component devices for my projector. It works great and has adaptive sensing, so it learns your patterns. You can prioritize inputs too. It will even convert optical to coaxial or coaxial to optical, so you can plug in whatever type you have/want and it will output to what you need.

A few ideas/suggestions:

Doesn't your Comcast box have a passthrough? My sister has one and her DVD player is running through hers.

Also, why don't you just ues the Panasonic DVD recorder as your DVD player as well? It's progressive scan.

~OR~

Use ONE component input on your JVC receiver for the output of the Audio Authority box. This would leave one, possibly two open component inputs on your JVC receiver for other equipment!

Try this:

comcast hd box ---> Audio Authority box

ps2 ---> Audio Authority box

gamecube ---> Audio Authority box

xbox ---> Audio Authority box

Audio Authority box ---> 1st component input on JVC

sony progressive dvd player ---> 2nd component input on JVC

panasonic dmr-e50 dvd recorder ---> 3rd component input on JVC

Component output on JVC ---> TV

This allows you to have ALL six pieces of equipment connected via component and switchable!

If the above is do-able, then you could use the Audio Authority.

Has anyone noticed any quality degradation with the Audio Authority 1154? I have the JVC S111 and have noticed the output isn't as clear as it is when I plug in the device directly so I'm looking to upgrade.

i guess i'm just gonna wait till something comes out with enough imputs to suit my needs.

the comast box i have has no pass through imputs just outs, currently the panasonic dvd recorder is connected like this ,

the hd box composite outs into imput 1
the vcr outs into imput 3 for dubbing onto dvds old vcr tapes archives,
i use this as a sort of tivo/vcr since it records using dvd ram discs.

the hd box is hooked up into the jvc s111 along with my dvd plyr and ps2 the GC is the odd system out currently.

i don't want to use the dvd recorder as my primary dvd player as some nights i might be watching a dvd movie and theres something i need to record with the panasonic recorder.

bottom line, i'm just a lazy s.o.b. and would just like to sit back and have all my components run from my video 1 imput that are not composite or s-video without having to get up and push a button of some kind.

yeah i know, but i have to get up and turn on the ps2 or gamecube anyhow and whats so hard about pushing a button while i'm up. (ahh helloooo! did we forget about the lazy s.o.b. part).

my set does have 3 imputs 1 and 2 with component imputs in the rear and 3 on the front using s-vid or composite which i would like to re-route to the rear for the composite hookups.

i do get a signal loss when viewing dvds in progressive mode during bright scenes with the jvc s111 thought it was the cables, so i did hook it directly to the tv with no problem, so it has to be the box.

Not at all! 0% degradation with the Audio Authority 1154. It's a pricey box, but well worth the expense IMO.

I don't have the JVC S111, so I can't comment on the degradation possibility.

Are there receivers out there that do the same thing as this switch? I don't have one yet and would like to kill two birds with one stone if I can. Do receivers have signal loss for component connections? Can anyone recommend a good one for a reasonable price?

The reason for this is the low bandwidth of the S111 unit. It has 30mhz of bandwidth compared to the more than 100mhz of the AA1154.

Take a look at what kind of bandwidth is necessary to pass different resolutions:

If image preservation is your ultimate goal then the Inday and Zektor units would be preferred. There are a number of receivers that offer component switching, with models like the Yamaha 1400/2400 and Denon 3805 being quite attractive..

most receivers i've check into have two component inputs only even the high end models, i just can't understand with the ever expanding component vs composite connections why this is still happening.

for the price of the Audio Authority Model 1155 i would dish out the extra $$ to have the additional imputs into the receiver.

Because component switching is becoming less important as the industry shifts towards digital with DVI & HDMI.

Well for one if you are looking to have the best signal possible you should be connecting to your display device and not something to switch with.

IMHO I would trade quality over convienence anyday.

very true, anytime you split or join connections you tend to lose a little signal strenght.

but as stated the tv has 3 sets of inputs ,

1 & 2 capable of composite, s-video or componet and #3 front of set inputs, composite or s-video only.

i could hook up the hd box to imput 1 which would for force me to use composite imput only on #2 since s-video overrides composite once connected.

and i just cant see connecting 2 pro scan dvd players by means of composite, well that'll be like spending the night with (insert the hottest chick here) and her in the mood and all you wanted to do was talk the whole night and not taking full advantage of the possiblities.
