Walt Disney Treasures are No More confirms Maltin R.I.P.

From Ultimate Disney

Hi... Thanks so much for your kind words; they're very much appreciated. I have been told that there will be no more Treasures, and of course I'm disappointed. I have the exact same questions you do about "unfinished business," and I wish I had answers, but I don't. Nor have I been told what they plan to do under the Legacy imprint.
That this series exists at all is a minor miracle, and I feel grateful that we had a six-year run with it.
cheers, Leonard Maltin
bummer that the Donald cartoons didn't get finished off. This truly started as one of the best lines on DVD, and lost its way somewhere...now its gone...bummer

dom56 01-10-07 04:18 PM

Bummer. :(

I was hoping maybe Disney release Dr. Syn (alias The Scarecrow) on the Treasure set but I guess that not going to happen now.

JeremyM 01-10-07 04:19 PM

This stinks. If they would've just put all of the Pluto shorts on one set like planned, and then used that open slot for the rest of the Donald shorts, I would be satisfied.

Not ..... good ...... news.

Beat me by 2 minutes, Cameron.

Here's what I posted in the duplicate thread I just deleted:

Sad that they're closing out the series without finishing the Donald cartoons. In a way, I'm glad it's over tho. Disney really stopped caring about these releases and it showed.

Cameron 01-10-07 04:49 PM

yah, it kind of fell apart when Roy Disney left the company. (when they pushed that wave back to the middle of the year), then the following year had all the video problems. I had hoped that with his return this last wave would be without fail. And for the most part it was in good shape, but their are a few edits here and there...

Super Leviathan 01-10-07 04:57 PM

For me this is a case of "How the Mighty have Fallen"

When the issue of the Censored Tom and Jerry DVD's became really heated circa Spring 2005 (Due to Warner Bros. giving a bleated andreally crappy reason for the Censored shorts at HTF), there was a firestorm of forum-goers (though AFAIK no one here) who wasted no time in spewing venom at Warner Bros. and raising Disney on a pedestal (And I was one of them). Well, here we are roughly 18 months later. The Treasures are doomed after suffering two waves of screw-ups, and WHV is finally going thorugh with it's long-belated replacement program for the censoredTom and Jerry DVD's

Hopefully Disney won't risk animation buffs burning down their offices and release the remainder of the Donald shorts via their new Legacy line.

i think that the new legacy series would be more geared towards that. Here's to hoping anyway.

FantasticVSDoom 01-10-07 07:53 PM

Sad...Hopefully the Legacy collection will take up the slack a little bit.

dpz301 01-10-07 08:17 PM

sad, too bad i just started collecting these and now they are over, grrr. guess i will get out there and get the ones i don't have so i can get some of the others that are left.

LorenzoL 01-10-07 08:24 PM

Sad and disappointing news.

Ravenous 01-10-07 09:03 PM

Shit! No Chip N Dale and no Zorro. That pisses me off because I really wanted them to finish Baca and Swamp Fox.

Goddamn I hate Disney

They are releasing the Tom & Jerry shorts uncensored now?

JiM T 01-10-07 10:07 PM

There is an exchange program now in place for Tom & Jerry Volume One. As for the Treasures situation... really depressing. :( Going out and buying my selected titles in the series (always liked the animation ones) has become a sort of tradition. I'll miss that, and I'll miss the sets moreso.

UAIOE 01-10-07 10:36 PM

I thought they said they wouldn't be releasing the Tom & Jerry shorts in an uncensored form.

Cameron 01-10-07 11:10 PM

For all you Tom & Jerry Fans who missed it...

HTF has the answers

Damn! that sucks. I only collected the animated Treasures but was hoping to finish the Donald collection.

It's a shame this line didn't last a little bit longer. One of the better DVD lines ever, even if they did start to falter a couple years ago.

What were the problems? I was only collecting the Mickey Mouse sets (and had toyed with grabbing the recent Pluto release at Costco). Should I just stay with what I've got? I was interested in this wave when I saw it, but since it is over I guess I'm done. :(

lumberjack 01-11-07 09:59 AM

Isn't John Lasseter the new head of Disney Feature Animation? I know that his department and the home entertainment division aren't the same but maybe his position will give him enough pull to restart this franchise. I'm sure I'm being naive with this answer, but maybe there's a glimmer of hope for a Treasures resurrection in the new future.

That's what I was waiting for too. I have the single disc, but it's nowhere near all of them. :(

And not finishing Donald? That's unforgiveable.
