That's why I've always hesitated on buying it. I do have the HD-DVD set (the first three) which includes the second disc. It's more the "completest" thing than anything else.

Is it possible the Canadian disc is combining content that was spread across two or more retailers in the U.S., or do they both have identical content only with different marketing spins (i.e. does the U.S. bonus disc actually run over 90 minutes?), or did they simply move bonus featurettes from the main disc to the bonus disc for the Canadian market so they could claim a longer run time and confuse the issue? (I'm kinda leaning toward the latter, actually)

The over 50 minute thing is only in the online description. The actual exclusive content sticker on the package says over 90 minutes. Got mine yesterday. So I'm willing to bet they are the same disc.

Only issue I have with the Target version is how flimsy the outer cardboard cover is that hold both the movie case and booklet. I'm wondering if scoring one of the standard version slipcovers, and putting it on the movie case, would improve things.

Good to know. And agreed on the flimsy cover. Quite a few of them were crushed/damaged in the Walmart display I saw up here. I wouldn't keep it anyway as I'm only after the main case and the discs, but still, it doesn't seem well thought out.

I suspect they think people will store the actual movie case and booklet separately after opening the package. Personally I wish they would have just shrunk the booklet a little so it could fit inside an slightly wider regular case. I have many releases like that.

One of the reasons why I still keep my original 2 disc MI:3 DVD, even though I have it on BD as part of the trilogy box set I got for Christmas a few years ago. Bummer that Paramount dumped it for BD releases.

I picked up the 2 disc version for a couple bucks back when Blockbuster was going out of business. Might be a good time to dump it while it's still worth something. I got an extra copy of the movie when I picked up the Trilogy Collection from the upgrade and save at Best Buy. Two things I miss from the "old" days :(

Front cover says 90-minute Bonus Disc. Back cover includes the description "WITH AN ADDITIONAL 50 MINUTES OF EXCLUSIVE BEHIND-THE-SCENES FOOTAGE FEATURING THE FILM'S ACTION-PACKED STUNTS!", so I assume it's 50 minutes of exclusive stuff and 40 minutes of extras that everyone gets.

And yeah, it's terrible packaging. Should have been a Digibook.

With the price drop next week, will Target automatically adjust the price or do I need to contact them to request it?

I believe if the price changes online before it ships, they adjust it. If it's after it ships, you have to contact them.

I've always had to contact them, because usually the price changes on the Sunday once the ad hits, and the movie always ships the week before. The online chat feature is pretty painless.

I was able to use the chat function this morning and receive an additional $2 back because of the sale price. The rep didn't want to do so at first, saying their price-matching policy only extends to 14 days and this order was placed nearly a month ago.

I expressed disappointment and he gave it to me as "one-time exception".

It probably would have been pressing my luck to tell him that I could have gotten another 10% off via cartwheel today. :)

Didn't notice that on the back. You are correct that the back includes that text. But...

I put in my disc, and in browsing through the features to note the length (why can't all features just have the time length next to the title?) all are around 5 min each, and some are even a couple minutes longer. There are 12 main feature listings, and the "Stunts" heading contains 5 features in the sub-group, so that is a total of 16 seperate ~5 min features. Given a few are longer (one stunt feature is ~8 min) you get right up, or a little over the 90 minute mark.

The 90 min sticker is correct, the back and listings are wrong. The 50 min text for the listing and the back of the box could have been old news that didn't get updated.

I got the standard version to review and also picked this one up and there are a few features not the standard release. When I get a chance, I'll try and break down what's new.

16 features at ~ 90 minutes on the bonus BD disc just as I posted above.

The steelbook is $14.99 this week at Best Buy

I haven't opened my Target version yet. Is the extra content worth it over the steelbook?

Re: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE Rogue Nation: -12/15/2015

For me, extra content usually trumps a steelbook IMO. Besides, the extras on the Target disc is on a blu. If it were on DVD, I would have possibly reconsidered getting the steel. But yes, I think the extra content is worth it.

Yeah, it has 90 minutes of Bonus Material on a separate Blu Ray, while the regular version had "Over 40 Minutes" of that Bonus Material on the one Blu Ray (along with the feature)

Did anyone notice the commercial for the Blu-ray/DVD? I could swear that a scene they used was a homage to Troll 2.

Attempted PM w/Amazon @ Target and was declined (get this) because Amazon ships it via Prime. They supposedly will not PM an item that is Prime eligible as they consider it a "buying" club.

I think they were confused as I bet it is no PM when it is an Amazon Prime Deal of the Day or Prime Special item, not ALL Prime shipping eligible items.

So I asked to PM Best Buy (who Amazon is matching) and they said sure. They wouldn't however do the 10% Cartwheel coupon after a PM, which I expected.

Re: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE Rogue Nation: -12/15/2015

Got the Target edition for Christmas.

Having the 90 minutes of bonus content broken up is annoying. I'd rather have a play all option where they can be played as 1 continuous documentary. Terminator Genisys' Best Buy edition has that option with the bonus disc and it ends up playing as one big 140 minute documentary.

I heard from somewhere maybe here? That DVD/BD producers can't produce full length feature documentaries on the making of films anymore because the actors will need to be compensated as it was an actual film as opposed to promotional material that they are required to do. Hence, you see all these short featurettes.

Yeah, I read the same thing. It's rare to have one long documentary-like feature. I can't remember what the cut off was, 10-minutes?

I think so. Honestly, the best featurette is about the opening scene on the plane, and that's on the standard release. But...I don't really like the Steelbook art for this, and the added features have EPK-ish commentary but good BTS footage.

I believe the cutoff is half an hour. Anything less than that is considered a promotional responsibility mandated by the actors' contracts. Longer is a standalone work they must be compensated for.

I've seen a number of discs where something that was obviously created as a single lengthy documentary was segmented into multiple individual parts so that none exceeded 30 minutes. I can't remember the title off the top of my head, but I've even seen one where a 35 minute piece was split into one 30 minute part with a separate 5 minute part to watch the end of it.
