I do most of my shopping at CD Japan

They carry 10 DVD's of Tom & Jerry in 3 sets:
Tom & Jerry Set 1, 5229Yen, Item#SP-3
Tom & Jerry Set 2, 5229Yen, Item#SP-4
Tom & Jerry Set 3, 5229Yen, Item#SP-5

That comes to roughly 43USD per set plus S/H.

Exactly what I was looking for. Gotta get all three sets. Woohoo.

THanks!

It seems strange that they would go through the trouble of releasing cut and uncut sets of Tom and Jerry. If that's true, I wonder what version CD Japan carries, and if it's safer buying the separate volumes or the 3 sets.

AutumnNights 04-29-02 05:28 PM

I agree. I, too, thought it strange that there might be a separate cut and uncut release. After spending some time digging around the internet via some search-engines, unfortunately I could only come up with literally 3 or so "Tom and Jerry" sites that were useful. And of them, the one that I cite is the only one that had any info. about the Japan dvds.

In the next couple of days I'll send an email to amotokyo and cdjapan and see if they can clarify anything.

I recieved my Tom-1 Tom-2 uncut boxsets today. I can confirm that they are uncut and have English soundtracks and the subtitles are optional. Also my source in Japan says all the Tom and Jerry DVDs are uncut, the only difference with these sets is that they are limited editions, and have the boxes and the DVD spines make a picture of Tom and Jerry. This is common in Japan, they seem to release entire seasons of TV shows in a limited boxset and after that you have to buy each volume seperately at a higher price per disc

I was also told these are hard to find, but Vol.1 to 10 are easy to find on their own, and there are 3 value packs, as stated in a previous post. I decided not to take any chances and get these, but it appears if you want to save some money and buy the 3 smaller boxes, the episodes are the same. Just in case you are interested I paid $275 U.S shipped 3-5 day express.

There is also 6 DVD collection on ebay right now

<A HREF="http://www.dvdtalk.com/legal.html" target="_blank">Forum Rules</a> <small>[eBay link deleted]</small>

It appears to have every episode in order from 2/20/45 to 9/2/55

Does anyone know about this collection, is it a bootleg? They are region Free, not that means
anything for sure.

I agree it sounds like one, but some bootleg sellers also sell legitimate region free DVDs,
remember the twin peaks pilot? Everyone thought that was a bootleg

Hi shaggy =)

Thanks for the early feedback on your tom & jerry dvds. Later on whenever you get a chance ( I realize that with 10 dvds stuffed with 140 or episodes, it's going to take awhile to check out everything. Plus there's the fact that, according to what I read somewhere, the listing of the titles of the episodes is in japanese), would you mind briefly commenting on some of the other things that I mentioned in my earlier post about which I had concerns ?

Thanks in advance
Take care,
AutumnNights

The listing is in englsih and Japanese, and I can pretty much confirm all the information above.

Here's a link of a finished auction, I'm looking for any info about this set, some of the rules here are brain dead.

Bootlegs

Unlike many people, I can actually differentiate between a bootleg and a legit release. The ebay link you gave is a dead easy bootleg. "Best Movie Collection" is your giveaway, as this belongs to a bootlegging outfit who have done an extensive number of bootlegs in the past, the vast majority being LD transfers to DVD of classic hollywood films, Disney titles not on dvd, etc.

There's nothing braindead about the rules. What's braindead is not doing the easy and respectable thing like simply posting the image of the title in question rather than the entire link to its sale. An "inncocent" question about an item often gives many the opportunity to buy a bootleg via a particular forum or site, which is precisely what most www and forum owners/moderators are trying to avoid for reasons which shouldn't require a brain to understand.

Phew!

Thanks, <b>Furious</b>. I was counting to ten before responding but I think you still did it better than I would have done!

<small>I didn't want to ruin this thread, so I split off a couple of the more relevant posts (including <b>AutumnNights</b>' query) to a fresh one before closing this.</small>
