Prometheus (2012, D: Scott, Fassbender, Rapace, Theron, Wilson, Elba)

yet again, i bring you news of a reboot. First "Predator" and now i've read "Alien". looks to be an origins story... could be interesting, but when will the horrors end?

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/16328

In January we broke the news that Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios would be producing a reboot of Predator for 20th Century Fox. Our regular tipster was proven correct once again as the story was confirmed in April. Our tipster even scooped us on who would be penning the remake, now titled Predators.

So Mr. Anonymous is back again. And being that 20th Century Fox is remaking Predator, it doesn't surprise me at all that Fox is also going back to their catalog for a reboot of Ridley Scott's Alien.

What our tipster informed us is that - opposite the Predator situation - the plan is to stick with the original concept of only one alien on the ship.

Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are all on board to produce and have tapped Carl Rinsch to get beyond the camera and bring a new Ripley to the big screen.

Who is Carl Rinsch? I'm being told he's a commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake.

In the original, the terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, Aliens (my favorite film of all-time).

We'll keep you posted on any updates, but that's what we got for you this evening. Remember to take it as rumor until confirmed as many projects change through the course of development.

Update (12:07am, May 28): We just heard from a separate reliable source that Fox is possibly working on an origins story, as opposed to a straight-up remake. Still...

so...what do you think?

Great, another reboot. I'm crossing my fingers for this one since Scott is involved (hopefully he's going to be involved more than I expect)

They should do the story of the alien ship they found as a prequel.

Hope it's a origins story and not a remake.

that actually may make me want to see it.

If it is a direct remake of the original, casting is going to be what makes or breaks this film.

Fuuuuck. Unless this remake is on the level of Star Trek, I will be very unhappy. The alien effects needs to be 90% practical for this to work, just to start. And I do like Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the Ripley role.

Spoiler:
Especially if the ending still has her stripping down to her skivvies.

They should get Fincher to do this.

I also wouldnt mind an origin story, but not a remake. I don't really see a need for a remake or reboot for Alien, as it seems there can still be plenty of stories to tell in the existing timeline.

I had no idea who Mary Elizabeth Winstead was so I had to google it. I haven't seen her in anything but Final Destination 3(turd) and Live Free or Die Hard. But based on her portrayal of Lucy McClain in LFoDH, I approve.

Also, she could pass for Liz Vassey's youger sis:

First thing I thought of. I'd be up for that...certainly more so than any sequel ideas. Ripley would not and should not be a part of it though.

Yeah, I'm sure Fincher is just dying to make another Alien film.

He worked on Aliens but Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff (who worked under Winston on Aliens) have been the caretakers of all the alien costumes and effects for every film since. If they're involved, I'll see it just for their work.

 CGI will quickly kill this. An orgin backstoy involving the derelict ship/space jockey could be interesting. Not interested in a remake.

Well, this begs the inevitable question...will the two reboots lead to an ALIEN VS. PREDATOR reboot?

Just askin'

Who's the one on the right, Winstead or Vassey? She's hot.

Agreed. That's the one story I would be interested in too.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I am sure it will a terrible offense to the original but at least we will always have that. M. E. Winstead is hot but I dont think she would be believable in the Ripley role. The last thing I wanna see is a bunch of pretty boys and girls in space. The first one worked so well because of the cast. You can buy every member of the cast in those roles. They look like miners or labor workers which is what they supposed to be. Not models for Old Navy!!!!!
