They allow the actors to improv in a lot of their screens. So, it was probably Evans being a smart ass. lol

This was a good role for Gosling. Agreed that Evans was a little too mustache twirling.

The more I think about it, the more I liked this movie. It’s probably my second favorite movie of the year next to Top Gun: Maverick!

Okay, this piece on the film in The New York Times answers my questions, but raises another one: how does one justify spending $40 million on just one action scene?!!!!

I feel like I'm insane reading this comments. I cannot believe they spent $200M on something a step above garbage.
It was like all the worst things about the MCU with none of the novelty of seeing comic characters on screen.
The movie takes zero chances and the action sequences were just like... watching CG blobs the entire time.
This movie would have sky-rocketed for me if they just maximized practical effects and stunts. Like this movie is basically Commando meets Winter Soldier, with none of their charm.

I do agree that I’m not sure I saw the $200 mil. budget on screen but one of the things I enjoyed about this is that a lot of the movie appeared to be filmed on location around the world. Which was a big problem I had with Red Notice, that felt like it was all filmed in some studio somewhere against a green screen.
My minor gripe, which I mentioned in my post above is that some of the action scenes were filmed kind of sloppy. The Russo’s weren’t great with filming some of the action scenes in this.
There were also a few action sequences that are so ridiculous they’d be right at home in a Fast and Furious movie but screw it, it is still fun as hell to watch!

I think that $200m is skewed since the actors get extra fees with it skipping theaters in lieu of revenue points. I'd be curious how much actually went into the actual negatives less actor costs.
I do agree that it would have been better as like a Tom Cruise production.

$200 million for this film should cost someone their job, tbh. Couldn't have been more by the numbers. It's a movie we've all seen 10+ times already, told better. Evans is terrible as a bad guy.

Netflix has a lot of programming I enjoy. I'd rather they didn't fold because of poor financial decisions like this.

On one hand this was fine enough as a 2 hour time waster with a great cast that I'll forget by tomorrow.
On the other hand, this was the worst kind of cinematic junk food. A vapid pastiche of dozens of better movies. Any hint of drama or stakes is completely undercut by some MCU style quip. The action scenes are almost completely incomprehensible. No sense of time or space. And while I don't expect everyone to risk life and limb making a movie, once you've seen Tom Cruise jump out of a plane for real, watching a cgi Ryan Gosling flying through exploding debris doesn't really cut it. I hate to speak ill of them because they were so instrumental in making Community, but when it comes to the Russos, I think it's pretty clear that the emperor truly has no clothes.
Getting back to the cast, Julia Butters announces herself to the world by almost stealing the show in her 10 minutes of screentime in One Upon a Time in Hollywood and this is what she follows it up with? Yeesh. Bad job Hollywood. Bad job.

One part that I noticed that kind of made me laugh. Gosling's character "Six" took that Thai "Tuk Tuk" or motorcycle taxi and drove all the way from Bangkok to that base in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. If you're even remotely familiar with Thailand that is an impossible commute for a Tuk Tuk. It's over 400+ miles and would literally be 8 1/2 hours. A Tuk Tuk is not even remotely capable of traveling that far. It's only meant for short distances around town.

It's a silly argument to have because Netflix's profits (billions of dollars per year, btw) are tied to subscriber numbers and the number of dollars spent on content per subscriber. There's almost no way to quantify how much money The Gray Man has made in isolation. But the fact that Netflix has already greenlighted multiple sequels would seem to indicate that it has been a great success.

Just watched this with the wife. She thought it was awful. I thought it was ridiculously over the top but entertaining. Action was pretty well done and sort of had a John Wick vibe to it. I will watch and sequels or prequels...... without the wife.

Great flick and easily Netflix's best action movie. Evans plays an outstanding asshole....wish he was in it more.
Gosling gives another muted performance but it fit.
Would like to see a sequel.

Really enjoyed this. The action sequences were terrific, and while the plot points were a little cornball-ish I was never NOT entertained.
The airplane escape and the Prague shootout/chase were exceptionally fun.

Thought this was just OK. Very overrated. Honestly just a dime a dozen action movie with a nice cast and a fun villain in Evans
