Ummm, there've been quite a few retrospectives devoted to Hayao Miyazaki in North America over the years. I know I attended one in New York in 1999 and Miyazaki himself came unannounced to introduce MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO to the crowd at the Museum of Modern Art and they went nuts.

Very good news. I've seen several episodes of Future Boy Conan on VHS in Japanese without subs. and enjoyed them very much.

Re: 1 & Only Studio Ghibli Blu-ray Thread

We went to the Academy Museum yesterday to see the Hayao Miyazaki exhibit described above (my youngest loves Totoro and it was for her birthday). It's a brand new museum, and the entire top floor is basically dedicated to the exhibit (well, one room is a Pixar Zoetrope but it was inspired by an earlier Totoro one). Cool experience, though in compliance with Miyazaki's wishes absolutely no picture taking in the exhibit itself.

Hayao Miyazaki Prepares to Cast One Last Spell

No artist has explored the contradictions of humanity as sympathetically and critically as the Japanese animation legend. Now, at 80, he’s coming out of retirement with another movie.

Ghibli Producer Suzuki Says Miyazaki's Next Film is "Still in Progress"

The film is based on Yoshino Genzaburo's 1937 novel

Toshio Suzuki, producer of Studio Ghibli, attended the opening ceremony of the "Toshio Suzuki and Ghibli Exhibition" held at Terada Warehouse in Tennozu, Tokyo, on June 30 and discussed the studio's current activities with the press. During the discussion, he confirmed that production of Hayao Miyazaki's new film How Do You Live?, which is based on Yoshino Genzaburo's 1937 novel of the same name, is still in progress.

At the first interview for the exhibition, which took place in 2019, Suzuki said of the release of How Do You Live?, "Three years from now...?" Almost three years have passed since then. He was asked about the current status of the film and answered, "It's a unique question... As already announced, Hayao Miyazaki has been working on How Do You Live?. It has been a long time, but the production is still in progress." No further details seemed to be revealed.

Also, he reported, "My most important job is... Ghibli used to mass-produce a film every two years, but since we only make one every once in a while these days, I don't want people to forget about us, so I'm doing some writing and other production work to make sure Ghibli is not forgotten."

Seems like they're not suing Ghibli or Netflix but the ones who sold the rights, but I don't think this will impact the Netflix deal since the VOD rights they're fighting about expired last year anyway. At least that's how I read it. I'm sure HBO max is looking to get out of their ghibli deal, however long it's lasted, so maybe Netflix picks it up in the US as well eventually.

Re: 1 & Only Studio Ghibli Thread

I have never, ever, ever watched an animated feature and wished I could see a "live action" version. Ever.

The opposite is frequently true, though.

That's all I'll say about that.

GKIDS has acquired the North American rights to 10 YEARS WITH HAYAO MIYAZAKI.

Step behind the scenes with Miyazaki himself in this 4-part documentary series from Kaku Arakawa, who also directed NEVER-ENDING MAN: HAYAO MIYAZAKI.

Stay tuned for more news!

I never watched an animated feature as a stage play but I watched Zatoichi Live and that was surprisingly great.

Hopefully this is along the same thing.
