The new Dragon Ball Super movie, "Super Hero," opened wide at 3007 theaters in the U.S. this weekend and hit #1, making $21 million. I used to watch Dragon Ball Super, but I had no idea a movie was coming out until I read the review in The New York Times on Friday. The Times has never reviewed a DB movie before. More astoundingly, it was a favorable review by someone who admits to being a fan of the franchise! I never expected to see that in the Times.

My son really wants to see it but man I haven't paid anything but cheap 5 dollar tickets for movies in a while (and this one is ineligible). The last one was probably... when I took them to see Broly.

It's a good thing my kids are a long, long way from catching up on One Piece or we would have seen Red as well.

But it's printed in today's edition, which is how I first saw the article. Then I went on-line to check it out and saw they incorporated lots of video clips into the piece, which is pretty clever. Kind of amazing that they're finally coming around on anime. I

I'm not surprised by the success of DBS: Super Hero. The lack of competition probably helped also. Will it top Jujutsu Kaisen 0 ($33,919,605)? It's currently at $21,053,798.

CR has one more high profile title coming to theaters this fall. It's going to be One Piece Film: Red.
