I still don't see why people are picky about getting the combo packs in Blu-ray packaging. Both the DVD and Blu-ray packages have the same discs, so I'm not fussy about which ones I get. (I got the DVD packaging for both TS combos.)

It's an aesthetic thing. Haven't you seen some of the threads on here about collector mentalities? Some people do care about having a row of nice blue cases and then one larger black one that sticks out. "Dude, you stuck a DVD in with you Blu-rays."

My Target had new stock today and I picked up both in BD cases. I tried to use both coupons but they would only take one. No big deal. $15 for both is a great deal and the added free movie tickets makes it even better.

it sort of pisses me off only for the fact i have an entertainment center with an area that only fits blu ray discs. it's too small of a shelf for regular dvd discs. so now, i have to keep them in a different spot than i keep the blus. no big deal.

Your original argument was the same thing Target and TRU employees said. But to add to the aesthetic argument, people and business will actually pay MORE for the blu-ray package versions. Not that I would ever sell them, but there's that mentality out there that blus that have blu packaging is worth more.

It's funny, I didn't think about the whole "blu-ray in black DVD cases" until I read this thread yesterday, but last week we were at Meijer's and they had a bunch of catalog titles that had both DVD and Blu-ray discs in one and they were in black dvd cases! The first thing I said to my wife was, "That sucks, they aren't in blu-ray cases! I'm not buying those!"

Today at Target they had both versions of Toy Story, needless to say, I got the blu cases.

IIRC, Best Buy offered both sets of Snow White for the same price during release week. However, the price tags indicated that the Blu-ray cased versions would be $5 more following the release promo, despite having the exact same contents.

Got mine at Toys R Us for $7 out the door ($21.99 * 2) - $10 package discount + NYC Tax - ($10 * 2 Coupons) - ($5 * 2 Coupons). All coupons scanned with no problems!

Blu-ray cases take up much less space than regular DVD cases, but for some odd reason, I like collecting the DVD/BD combos in the DVD packaging. I'd probably pick up DVD packages of the Ponyo and Earth BD combos if Disney had offered that option along with the BD cases.

I'm also assuming that the record books show these as two separate releases; a Blu-ray release and a DVD release. I'd rather go on record as buying the Blu-ray to promote the format... THAT and I'd rather keep my new TS purchases with my Blu-ray discs.

Re: Save $10.00 off Toy Story & Toy Story 2 Blu-rays when you upgrade from DVD or VHS

I almost blew it on the Target deal. I couldn't print the coupons at work (the Navy is reluctant to allow their employees to install s/w on their computers -- go figure) so I had to stop forgetting to print them out at home. Turns out, I didn't stop forgetting until about 8pm yesterday.

Now, I own the Toy Box Set, so I had no problems using any of the posted UPC codes to get the coupons to show. Thing is, I used one of the 5 codes at work (see above) and was not allowed to re-enter that code when I logged in from home. So used a 2nd one, only to find out that the installer craps out when printing to our networked printers, and it refused to allow me to print it to a pdf. I hoofed it downstairs to log directly in to our server to print it from the slaved laser printer there. Entered a 3rd code, and the coupon printing software refused to print, rejecting my printer. Only after slaving an alternate color ink jet printer and burning the 4th of 5 codes did I get an actual printed coupon.

Of course, I did not know that the previous coupons were still linked to my account and I could've resurrected them at any time once I got my hardware configuration squared away to their software's liking, so I was getting really frustrated. Finally, armed with two coupons, I pulled up Target's ad and found out that the $22/ea, $10-off-two deal ended Saturday. What time is it now.... 9:35. Uh oh. What time does my local Target close.... click-clickety-click... 10pm. Damn!

So armed with my printouts, I zoom up the stairs. I apologize to the wife and kid (she'll have to read bedtime stories tonight) and I dash out the door. It's only a 15 min drive to my closest Target, but with only a 10 minute window to hit, I'm a little freaked out. I get behind the only bubba in Bloomington who thinks Saturday night isn't race night, and he insists on legally driving exactly the speed limit. Ugh. I get there with a scant 7 minutes to spare. Quicktime to the Electronics Dept... can't find the display. Crap!

Turns out, it was on an end cap facing the WRONG way. Had to go into the DVD section to the big wall o' flicks, then do a 180 and look at the endcap facing those DVDs. They had 2-3 of each flavor of Toy Story sets. I was not expecting to find two different combo packages for each movie - one in a standard DVD-sized case and one in a BluRay case. The first was "DVD and BluRay" the second was "BluRay and DVD". The UPCs were different. It took me a precious 90 seconds to determine that the larger case was the Target "exclusive" version that had the exact same media, the same free TS3 ticket, and the extra "bonus feature" DVD-ROM thingy I wanted for my kid. Okay, cool. I knew which package to get for each movie, and I grabbed one big blue box and one big red box.

Another quicktime to the registers back in front. Two lanes open. One has one woman checking out, the other is empty. A lady is heading for the lanes with her cart full of one of everything from the store including a fridge (ISYN), but as she seems to be bearing down on the checking-out line I head for the vacant line, victory in sight. Alas, at the last moment, incredibly-packed-cart woman veers off and claims my lane. No sweat, I also change lanes. Then I find out, the checking-out woman is having a price check done on the one item she wants to buy. (Why did it ring up $39.95 here when the sign says $19.95 back in home furnishings?) She has three red-shirted Targeteers helping her figure out what she bought, whether it was the item on sale, showing her the sale flyer, using the walkie-talkie to communicate with someone back in home furnishings to run the UPC to help. Blah de dah de dah. Okay, I think, I'll just go stand behind incredibly-packed-cart woman.

Her stuff rings up. Then she forgets that she had two items underneath the cart. Hands them over one at a time. Another customer comes up, slides into the other lane, and is rewarded when log-jam woman finally completes her sale. Meanwhile, incredibly-packed-cart woman has decided that she doesn't want THIS thing, but since its the same price as THAT thing, can they just ring it up and she'll swap it for the other thing? No. Oh, well, that's okay, I'll just buy this. How much is it in total? ($700-ish). Okay, here are THREE forms of payment (two Target GCs and a debit card).. "I hope there's enough on these to pay for this."

Ugh!

Meanwhile, they've opened another lane for all of the other shoppers who have since sauntered up to the registers. No less than five shoppers get through before I finally get to my check-out gal. She asks how I am?

So I made it. Toy Story 1 & 2, standard DVD and Blu, plus two bonus DVD-ROM thingies and two free tickets to Toy Story 3, all for $22.99 x 2 - $10 - $20 = $16+tax. The TS3 tickets alone will be worth that much.

Re: Save $10.00 off Toy Story & Toy Story 2 Blu-rays when you upgrade from DVD or VHS

Thanks to a friend of mine, I was able to get the 2 $10.00 off coupons. He printed them where he worked. He ended up printing them for himself, as well, so he could get in on the deal. I ended up with both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 Blu-Ray's for $19.04 with tax, out the door, at Target. I didn't realize people were also using the 2 $5.00 coupons and able to do it successfully. Oh, well. For two great Blu-Ray's, with the DVD-Roms and two movie tickets to Toy Story 3, I'm very happy. They look terrific on Blu-Ray, by the way. Another great job by Disney/Pixar!

You've missed all the sale prices and bundle discounts in the stores. But you can still use the coupons. The $10 upgrade coupons on the first page of this thread are good until 4/11/10.

The $5 coupons are also still available, but they expire today, 3/30/10. http://www.toystorysave5.com

You can also get $8 upgrade coupons by mailing in POPs from previous DVD versions at http://disneyupgrade2blu.com
It takes on average about 2 weeks from mailing before you receive the e-mail with the links to print your $8 coupons. The coupons are good for 1 month from the date of printing, though you don't have to print them right away when you receive the e-mail.

Your best bet for stacking multiple coupons is Toys R Us. After that, you can try Best Buy and/or Target, but your mileage will definitely vary, depending on your cashier/management.

If you don't care about the coupons, Amazon still has sort-of sale pricing and a $10 off promotion for buying both titles together. It's $35.98 shipped for both titles (look for the "Best Value" link on either TS1 or TS2 product page).

Well Toys R Us is doing a Buy 1 get 1 half off sale, so adding coupons you will not get as great a deal as last week, but better than no deals.

Don't know if this abides by board rules, so if not I apologize and expect it to be cut by mods.

No malice intended, but since this thread is dedicated to the recent BD releases of Toy Story I thought I'd give it a shot.

I have a thread in DVD Exchange where I'm looking for Toy Story 1 SE (BD packaging) slipcover (slipcover only) to replace a damaged one.

If you happen to be the type that discards the slipcovers, please take a look at my offer of a handful of "mystery" discs in exchange.

Re: Save $10.00 off Toy Story & Toy Story 2 Blu-rays when you upgrade from DVD or VHS

My wife and I had some errands to run today, and I hadn't been able to get to any stores for the Toy Story deals, so I decided to make a last-ditch attempt to score a good deal at TRU. My wife wanted to buy formula for our six month-old, so off we went, I with the $10 upgrade coupons in hand.

Since the buy one movie, get one for 1/2 off was in its last day, I wasn't too hopeful of finding the most popular new releases. And indeed, a look through the DVD/Blu section appeared fruitless. The Toy Story display by the registers was empty. I was ready to give up when my wife called me over to an endcap. She had in her hand three Toy Story movies: a copy each of the two movies in BD cases and a copy of the Toy Story combo in the DVD case. Needless to say, I grabbed the two in the BD cases--by all appearances, the last ones in the store, probably left on the endcap by someone who changed their mind about buying them.

An unexpected dividend materialized: the store was offering a $10 gift card for a purchase over $50. The two cases of formula we had exceeded that amount, so I asked my wife to check out first, get the gift card, and hand it off to me to use on the movies.

When all was said and done, my cost was:

$29.99 X 2 = 59.98 - 15.00 (buy one, get one 1/2 off) = 44.98
- $10.00 (for buying both together) = 34.98
+ $3.02 (8.625% sales tax) = 38.00
- $20.00 (Disney upgrade coupons) = 18.00
- $10.00 (rewards card for previous $50+ purchase) = 8.00 out the door.

Special thanks to my wife for finding these copies! She said to make sure I gave her credit on the forum, so here you go honey!

I'm surprised you were able to use the giftcard right away. I purchased the same $50 of formula and got the $10 GC too. It says right on the card that its not activated until 6hrs after the transactions. guess they lied.
