Nothing at the Marin City, CA or San Rafael, CA stores.

Marin City seemed like they might have had it recently because there was a shelf tag where it was and there was a large gap where it would be (next to the Standalone). Looks more likely that it was pulled.

San Rafael didn't have a spot for it. Then again this store is a foothole store compared to the other and is run a little more messy.

I found one at Barnes and Nobles today... but it was priced at $59.99. Is this likely to go up in value? I haven't really kept up with OOP DVD/Blu-ray lately.

No. Warner will dump the 40-50k copies eventually. Just wait.

Yeah, I read it didn't really sell well, even with only 70K copies produced. I'm quite happy with the Director's Cut, so I never bothered to get this.

Thanks.

If you can nab it for $20 or less, get it. Otherwise just wait as these will surface eventually.

None at my store. Although they did have the flyer on the shelf for it. Probably see some reseller on Amazon dumping these later, WB is known for doing that.

Did anyone order this from Amazon recently and have it delivered? I ordered this from Amazon on 7/15 before it went OOP but they never shipped it.

I ordered it on 7/04, it shipped on 7/20 and I received it today. It was supposed to go by FSSS, but I recently received a free 3 month prime trial and I guess they automatically upgraded my shipment.

Now I got to figure out what to do with it. Once I noticed they pulled it off of Amazon's site(other than 3rd party sellers) and I heard it went OOP, I was concerned it would not ship.

So I orered another copy from WBshop this weekend w/ a coupon I had. They both went into processing at the same time so I could not cancel before either one shipped. My WBshop copy came yesterday. So now I have 2 copies.

Yeah I will get it there or at Ross one day. It will go nicely next to my "300 Limited Edition" and "Wonder Woman: Complete collection"

re: (DEAD) Watchmen: Ultimate Cut $12.99 at Best Buy

Guys this was ALWAYS a limited item. It says LIMITED EDITION on the back (I know that doesn't mean much). But dvdfile.com reported that only 70,000 were made when it was released. They made more than 70,000 of the dvd set and that is why it is still available (the blu ray sold better relative to copies made). It may not have sold great, because Warner thought they would move ALL the copies last Christmas (2009). Took 8 months to move them and they certainly gave Amazon a discount when it was the Deal of the Day a few months back. They were clearing them out then.

I don't really expect this at Big Lots or Ross. They could move these easily on Amazon at $30. I say it is a kinda collectible for Watchmen lovers and will probably go for $60-$100 from now on. But there is no real reason for it to be worth more than that. You can get most of it if you buy several different discs. But it should have some value. I said that on the Watchmen Ultimate cut forum thread last year as well.

In the same vein those Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind sets will start drying up everywhere this XMAS 2010. Who knows what happens with the price of those. The recent out of print Criterions (Obscure Object of Desire and others) along with many Paramount widescreen dvds have shot up bigtime in the last few months. Dvd is dying and the prices are rising online (but dropping at Big Lots, boy Big Lots is incredible). Fascinating times.

re: (DEAD) Watchmen: Ultimate Cut $12.99 at Best Buy

Big Lots is indeed great, but there are still excellent bargains to be had online through third party arrangements like amazon marketplace as well as some other vendors. I've recently ordered a bunch of mostly non-blockbuster catalog DVD titles from the likes of MGM (whose financial status makes BDs of these films unlikely for quite a while), and probably averaged $4-5 per movie, shipped. One or two I got for less than $3, shipped. (These are brand new, sealed copies).

Between the slow decline of DVD, and with even the newer BD releases often available for less than their DVD equivalents if you look around, I think these are not only fascinating times, but among the best ever to be a fan and collector of cinema. My collection is growing faster than ever.

And now back to your regularly scheduled Watchmen thread...

70k is a pretty large number actually. especially considering thats prolly just for the blu-ray release. if that is true, how many sd dvd copies were released? furthermore, the ultimate cut was a re-release of existing releases (nothing new) just months after the inital release.

dont get me wrong - i really dig the ultimate cut. its just, it is what it is

re: (DEAD) Watchmen: Ultimate Cut $12.99 at Best Buy

It still seems a bit surprising to me that they couldn't move 70,000 copies of this. It is a big number for a limited title but not that big in the great scheme of things. Heck, I knew virtually nothing about Watchmen (the movie or the comic) until last year when I blind-bought the theatrical cut on DVD for something like $7 on Black Friday. Liked it a whole lot so I researched the other releases that were out there and picked up the ultimate cut on BD since it contained (almost) everything Watchmen that Warner had put out in one package. With what I thought were excellent video and audio on DVD, I wanted to see and hear more in HD and lossless!

If they could sell it to me, a novice to the story, I figure they could sell it to the hardcore fans. But maybe the hardcore fans were saturated with releases already.

And I paid around $40 for the set and thought it was a bargain considering all you get. But maybe I'm an exception.

I thought it was a great set (*coughshamelessplug*), but I could see some people not wanting it.

Most hardcore fans likely already sprung for Black Freighter and the Motion Comic on their own, and coming so soon on the heels of the first DVD release, coupled with the promised coupon for double dippers only working on Warner's site, cost a lot of sales.

re: (DEAD) Watchmen: Ultimate Cut $12.99 at Best Buy

I'm not surprised they couldnt move this particular cut of the film, being that including it, there are/were three different cuts available for purchase at the same time, this one was by far the most expensive AND due to Watchmen being a hard core comic book saga with a very small casual fan base, most people didnt have any real concept of their story line, thus making them more of an enigma than anything else. With those three factors to boot, there was no way they were going to sell an abundance of the ultimate cut discs, limited edition or not.

I bought mine when amazon first dropped it to $28 and received it like anything else purchased via amazon prime. Of course, that was, what.. 3 weeks ago. So, I'm not shocked that theyre suddenly very hard to find at discounted prices, especially if so many people like me saw that huge drop in price and decided to pull the trigger.

Good luck to everyone trying to get a copy at any discounted price.
