I received a email from Deep Discount this morning that said the sale ends Tuesday. The original post in this thread indicates it ends at 9/7/10 noon.

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

I went for the two Keaton films, an excellent deal. THE GENERAL is two discs and is supposed to look phenomenal. STEAMBOAT has the complete alternate version of the film in addition to the original. I don't own either in SD, so this buy was a no brainer which is good as I sometimes think I have no brain, but if so, how could I think that?

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

Pretty much already blew my DVD/BD budget for this month! I split up my order into three smaller orders since DD would have taking all the cheap ones as the free ones. Plus since I'm in Canada I have to pay for international shipping, which when you look at it doesn't make a lot of sense. I paid $23.85 USD for shipping by splitting it into 3 orders ($5.95 USD for the 1st & $8.95 USD for both the 2nd & 3rd), but if I would have combined it would have been $37.95 USD. Not to mention that smaller packages are much less likely to be nailed by customs.

ORDER #1 - TOTAL: $56.32
$7.04 Paper Heart (2009)
$7.04 Last Chance Harvey (2008)
$7.04 The Visitor (2007)
$7.04 Nothing Like the Holidays: Special Edition (2008)*
$7.04 Pandorum: Special Edition (2009)*
$7.04 Beyond a Reasonable Doubt: Special Edition (2009)*
$7.04 Sunshine Cleaning (2008)
$7.04 Sleepwalking (2008)*
ORDER #2 - TOTAL: $105.38
$8.07 Dog Soldiers (2002)
$8.61 It Could Happen to You (1994)
$8.61 Kung Fu Hustle (2004)
$8.61 Lola rennt (Run Lola Run) (1998)
$8.61 Wild Things: Unrated Edition (1998)
$8.61 The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999)*
$8.61 Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)
$8.89 Sphere (1998)
$8.89 Creepshow (1982)
$8.89 The Orphange (2007)
$8.89 Contact (1997)
$10.09 Hors de prix (Priceless) (2006)
ORDER #3 - TOTAL: $102.24
$11.79 The Natural (1984)
$11.79 Léon: The Professional (1994)
$11.79 Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)*
$13.27 About Last Night… (1986)
$13.27 Roxanne (1987)
$13.27 Can't Hardly Wait: 10 Year Reunion Edition (1998)
$13.53 The Square (2008)*
$13.53 Cemetery Junction (2010)*

All Purchases are in Canadian Dollars and include any applicable taxes and/or shipping charges

Actually, it's only 1 disc. I don't know why some sites list it as a 2 disc set. They must have taken the info from the SD version which is 2 discs. I have The General on BD and I can assure you it's only one disc.

I'm backlogged enough with other Blu-ray discs that I didn't want to dive into too deeply, but I did pick up Pandora... and Steamboat... for $22.72 total. Awesome.

You're less than an hour from the U.S. border. Time for an American postal box, my friend. Solves a LOT of problems with taxes, shipping and customs.

Either I missed Pandora and the Flying Dutchman the first time or they just added it...now I can't see anything to pair it with (already have Battleship Potemkin, The General, Steamboat Bill Jr, Fallen Angels and Happy Together....) --Peter

Okay, good to know, thanks. Still a great deal.

I want to get JASON AND THE ARGO for less than ten bucks, but can't find anything to pair with it.

You didn't miss it. I expressly looked for it several different times when the promotion first went up, and it definitely wasn't there. Even a search didn't turn it up. It must've gone up last night or this morning.

It is a great deal and a must own at one or 2 discs.

I bought The Natural with Jason and the Argonauts. I also recommend in the same price range:

Fallen Angels
Clash of the Titans
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

3 of 4 of mine have already shipped. Nice.

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

Thanks for the recommendations! I might go with BATTLESHIP, which I know is a great film, but I'm not sure it has a lot of repeat value. I've seen it plenty of times and just watched it a couple of years ago in SD and haven't felt the need to return to it yet.

Also, Wal-Mart currently has THE ROBE and THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST wrapped together for $20 and I may save my money for that, although I'm not sure PASSION has high repeat value either, LOL.

Nah, I'm actually American and have family that lives in the states that I use once in awhile to have things shipped to. But I just got back from a visit and won't be down there anytime soon. The cost of shipping is far less than the cost of renting a PO box and gas to drive there, not to mention the time it would take and dealing with bringing it back over the border. I haven't been dinged from customs when ordering from DD yet **knock on wood** Even with the conversion and extra shipping its still a good deal.

How about The Professional, assuming you don't have it? I'm considering that combo.

And getting Pandora and the Flying Dutchman and Steamboat Bill, Jr. for $22.72 almost makes up for paying about $5 more for The General and Battleship Potemkin at BB. (OK I'm officially finished bitching about that).

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

In an unprecedented move (for DeepDiscount), I received a shipping notification for 11 of my titles today. Nice turnaround time, but both of my titles from the last BOGO still haven't shipped. It is so hit-or-miss with these guys, but good that they at least turned some of these around quickly.

Great choices. Two of the best movies of the past year. I would have been all over them here if I hadn't already picked them up release week.

Placed a small order:

Leon
Faces of Death

Total = ~$21 (charged tax)

Thanks for the code OP. I was trying to use the one listed on DD (BRBOGO) and it wasn't working.

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

I picked up Cliffhanger & Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for $19.45. At under $10 bucks a movie, it was too hard to pass up getting one movie that should be priced in that range already along with another that probably wont ever be that cheap, outside of some special promotion (like this).

I enjoyed Cemetery Junction very much. Click the link only if you want to read review of the film. I'd be interested in what you thought of the film once you get a chance to watch it.

I see. Advantage mine, I guess. I cross the border nearly every three weeks, so the box pays for itself within the first couple of months after the annual renewal. It would be handy to have family in the U.S., but mine lives right on the border anyways, so I'm spending on gas to get home anyways -- might as well take advantage of the border while I'm there.

Customs aren't anywhere near as bad as they used to be, I must admit. I get boxes stuffed with DVDs sent to Canada from Europe and Asia all the time and haven't been nailed with duties in over a decade (since 1999, actually). If it weren't for the U.S. box and its proximity to the Michigan/Ontario border, I'd have no choice but to have U.S. purchases shipped up here, but now that I know how much less my American neighbors pay for DVD shipping within their own country (such as "Free" ), it would still leave a bitter taste.

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

Thanks for the recommendation of THE PROFESSIONAL, obscure, but it is one I already have.

My brother decided to get THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, which I also have, but he said I could throw in JASON as the free disc. Combined with the Keaton double, these were fantastic deals. Thought about getting PANDORA, but read some troubling comments included in the DVDBeaver review.

I kind of wish they would have more of a selection for this sale, but I don't need to spend the money.

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

Went a little crazy, did three orders

(All Blu)

Order 1:
Charlie's Angels $14.49
Suicide Girls: A Guide to Living FREE ($13.59)
Total $14.49

Order 2:
Leon the Professional $19.45
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon FREE ($19.45)
Total $19.45

Order 3:
Poltergeist $19.98
Poseidon FREE ($19.98)
Total $19.98

Now just the patient act of waiting for them since every single one was listed as out of stock. No hurry, every one except Suicide Girls is a blu-ray replacing the dvd. Great sale.

re: (DEAD) DD Hugh BOGO BD Sale

I placed three orders from this sale as well. "Charlie's Angels" and "Dogma" for ~$15, "Bad Boys" and "Can't Hardly Wait" for ~$22, and "Karate Kid" Box Set and "Willy Wonka" DigiBook for ~$31. Even better is that I had like $85 in my Paypal account from selling some DVDs recently, so that covered all of these.
