re: (DEAD) Lord of the Rings Trilogy $7.99 @ Target.com

Well an hour later and I receive my cancellation notice. If they didn't want to honor the price they should of just not discounted it online. Many stores have different pricing at the B&M stores than online. I typically love Target but this is quite disappointing of them

If any of the hoarders receive even 1 copy I'm going to be fucking pissed. If I hear about it I will send the link to the forum where the prick brags about it to Target's Corporate office.

Emphasize that you spend tons of money at Target. Best case scenario won't happen (fullfilling orders), but hey, you may get a gift certificate or a credit towards a future purpose.

My main issue with the cancellations (aside from the idiots that thought they could actually buy 100s of copies to flip), is that the cancellations were sent out the day after the sale. I happened to find a copy in store on Friday morning and only bought it just in case this happened. When I saw how many copies people were bragging to have bought online, I pretty much figured this was a sure candidate for cancellation. If they had cancelled it yesterday instead of sending out delay notices, at least others could've tried tracking it down in stores. The delay notice just gave everyone false hope.

Yep, I got the email, too. I also placed the order within minutes of this being posted. For Target to claim "item it is no longer available from any of our sources" is bullshit. This isn't out of print. They figure we've done our Black Friday shopping already, so now they don't have to pretend anymore to get our business...

If Target wanted to make it up to us, they should offer the 3 individual movies for the 7.99 total price.

Yep just got the cancellation email myself. Load of bullshit. Obviously they're not going to honor ANY orders placed for this.

Just got the cancellation too.

If they knew they made a pricing mistake but were going to honor it, why offer the sale price online?

Now I'm pissed I missed out on buying each one for $7.99. All the prices on Target and amazon were jacked up today.

Those who expected this not to be canceled, cry me a river. It's been done before by Amazon, Bestbuy, Target, Circuit City, etc., etc., etc.

This was totally different, they sent a memo about the mistake and how they were going to honor it, they then put it online after sending that memo at that price.

Plus they sent out emails saying they wouldn't be able to ship until mid-January. It's like they were going to honor it, then changed their mind...

It was likely to be cancelled. None of these places have to honor it. The fact that they even honored it on the store level is surprising, but they definitely didn't have to. Either way, no point in getting upset over it, it isn't going to change or help anything. Just move on.

I'm surprised that Target would be so deceitful. I was really hoping that everyone would get a copy ... and I thought that there was a really good chance that Target would pull through. I guess since BF is over, they don't care as much.

I like how people think it's their place to tell others how to feel over a shitty move by big business. I feel like everyone should deal with it in their own way. Simple as that.

As for me, I'm pissed. I shot off my two letters and I plan to take my business to other stores so long as it doesn't inconvenience me. Which it will. So I'll probably not change my spending habits much.

I was going to say something to some of the comments but I am just going to keep my thoughts for myself right now.

Anyways I too got the cancellation email and shoot an email back to them.
Now I hope everybody who ordered this will shoot at least an email or too so at least they will realize that we are not idiots who will say "umm ohh that's ok".
At least they can come clean and say price mistake can’t honor it instead of feeding us with BS.

Agreed, Stop sending us generic emails and just come out and tell us.

I was stating an opinion. I wasn't aware that stating an opinion was a "jump down someones throat" worthy offense. Seriously, if you are going to get upset about someone else opinion then maybe you should put down the keyboard and get some therapy for your obvious rage. I just stated that this is MY opinion. I never said that anyone else shouldn't be mad, if you can point out where I said anyones name or said anything bad about people upset then please show me, but that is going to be hard since I never did that. People tend to feel entitled in situations such as this when they shouldn't. Sure, they probably lied, but nothing really says that the HAVE to give it to people. Seriously, calm down.

While I don't necessarily agree that this was handled correctly, there is not much more you can do but send out an email or two. There is no reason to jump down the throats of the people on the phone because it's not their fault. I personally believe that something like this isn't really worth getting worked up over, but to each their own. I never said contrary.

One thing I will say though is as others mentioned they should give you the option of the 3 for 7.99 each since that isn't valid anymore. They were selling them on BF for that price so it's not really going to hurt them, and it will go a long way to show that they at least care a little.

I didn't mean to single you out. I'm just saying there are several people saying everyone should just "get over it" and that's not realistic. It's okay for people to vent for a little while, especially since this is the first day the news hit!

re: (DEAD) Lord of the Rings Trilogy $7.99 @ Target.com

It would sure be nice if Target followed up as Wal-Mart did with the Iron Man 2 pricing fiasco in mid-September. Wallyworld cancelled the orders but acknowledged a pricing error and gave customers who had ordered online a ~$10 online credit to help purchase the item (or anything else) at the heavily but incorrectly discounted price ($15.) I REALLY applaud Wal-Mart for that action to satisfy their customers. While I doubt Target would credit such a huge price difference for LOTR trilogy it should allow purchase of each film at 7.99 or give everyone a $10 gift card/credit which would go a long way in appeasing customers.

This! At least allow us to buy the individual releases for the Black Friday price or even all 3 for 7.99. After we assumed we would get this and let the deals pass we are now unable to go and get the individual titles for a discounted price.

There is nothing wrong with being upset at all, and clear minds don't always prevail so I definitely understand.

This i definitely agree with. They won't lose anything out of it since they were selling for that much anyway, and it will do a lot to make up for this with the customers.
