Several of the offerings in this set of lightning deals are the "extra crap" editions, which is disappointing. I'd pick up The Sound of Music if it wasn't the Collector's Edition and the price was right; I sold the DVD set months ago so it is very high on my want list (unlike most others here, I saw it during the original theater run and I'm a big Julie Andrews fan).

It isn't BD, but I'll probably bite on the Jesse Stone Collection. I've enjoyed the ones I've seen and my local library would probably like them.

I think it is because Lizard is doing so many... not because of looniness... that a DVD Slipped in

While nothing to be excited about, but if you are interested in the Other Guys

Blu+DVD+Dig $22.99

Blu $19.99

Re: Prince Caspian, I don't know. There appear to be three versions out at present:

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Three-Disc Collector's Edition+ Digital Copy and BD Live) $14.99, MSRP = $40.99 (release date 12-2-08)

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Two Disc and BD Live) $20.99, MSRP = 29.99 (release date 12-2-08)

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian $22.99, MSRP = $29.99 (release date 9-28-10)

It appears that the older versions are both cheaper and more loaded. But what the specific differences are, I couldn't say. It sure looks as if the version on sale at Amazon is the original fully loaded edition.

Aren't the glasses usually $100 each? Why is the kit so expensive?

Right you are. It is the $22.99 version that is at a new low and I've fixed the list.

The problem is that even when I search the "Blu-ray Store" the search results sometimes include the DVD version, which is annoying. Missed it on that one.

Well, it's a lot cheaper than where it started ($380+).

Yes, I think the glasses ARE pretty expensive (a complaint of 3D fans). But another reason for the price is that Avatar 3D is exclusive to Panasonic, so if you want it this is the only way to get it, save for Ebay.

I just find that sort of "new low" price amusing. I'll pass. (Not that I have a 3D capable system anyway).

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

I did get the Sound of Music the other day. If the box set does go down a bit I will buy it and ship the other one back. I did put in for Watchmen. Then again I would buy the batman also. Box sets and the items that come with them are the only thing I put out now. I have ran out of room (GF is giving me the full B5 set and that is going to be hard to book).

Looks like another Kevin Smith movie is also for sale cheap... Dogma for $10.49

That makes 3 Kevin Smith movies for great prices: Dogma, Chasing Amy & Catch&Release. He only acted in the last but if you haven't seen it yet, it's worth it IMO. Charming and Kevin's pretty funny in it too.

The glasses only work on Pansonic TVs though...

You might want to hold off on Dogma, it often drops a few dollars lower.

Apocalypse Now is back up to $23.99 for the two disc set. I held off buying it at $18.99 in the hopes that it would appear in my Gold Box, but no such luck. I'm sure it'll be discounted again soon.

Yes. I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

As you well know, it's this exclusive title stuff that has 3D fans ticked off. But I'll bet that the Avatar 3D exclusive is working out VERY well for Panasonic...

Avatar being exclusive will hurt 3D in more ways then any other title. They are essentially taking one of the biggest films of the decade out of the equation if you purchase any other TV but a Panasonic. I hated Avatar, but I recognize that others clearly liked it.

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

Some interesting items in the lightning deals.

Had Julie and Julia ordered during BF weekend but canceled it. If the lightning deal price is lower than their BF price of $8.49, I might go for it.

Planning on waiting for a separate release of the original Magnificent Seven (don't care about the sequels), but if the LD is below $20 for the set, I might grab it for the first movie, and the sequels thus become "bonus features."

Curious what they'll want for the Sound of Music box, although I don't think I'm a big enough fan of the film to go for it.

Thanks. I saw that newer version of Prince Caspian at Sam's Club the other day. It says "2-Disc Blu-ray + DVD" on the cover. I assumed that meant 2 BDs + 1 DVD, but the specs on Amazon only indicated 2 discs total. I guess Disney has just ditched the BD with the special features and thrown in a DVD copy of the movie for the repressing.

I guess I should go ahead and buy the "loaded" 3-disc version before it gets discontinued. I suppose $14.99 is a decent price for a new copy of any version, but I know it's gone lower on the secondary market. Still, I'd like to watch this again after seeing the new movie this afternoon. Decisions, decisions.

I guess it's gone unnoticed but Criterion has a lot of catalog Criterions on sale at 45% off. Not much for us Barnes & Noble fiends but a sale nonetheless.

I will be checking on the prices for Moon, Pillars of the Earth, and Modern Family next week!

By the way...how do you find the link to that preview of the lightning deals for the coming week before hand?

Glee season 1 is 34.99. Is this the best price that it has been? If you get modern family too then you save an additional ten dollars.

My name is earl season 4 is 14.99.
Burn Notice season 2 is 11.99

I've been keeping an eye on the "Glee" Blu-Ray and that's the best price I've seen.
