But that's the double-secret special edition, right? There will be a standard edition coming out later?

Yeah supposedly removes the 4k cut of They Call Her One Eye.
I picked up this version just to make sure that’s all that’s missing.

coupon code halfway5 will get you $5 off any order or additional order you make over $20. Used it on Trauma and the slipcover for the awful The Bees.

I have gone back and forth on Home Grown Horrors but I guess with the coupon I am in for one more 'add to my existing order'.

😂😂😂 Sure. The preorder bundle (Thriller Cruel Picture, Miami Connection, Cloak and Dagger, Stanley/Horror High, Scared to Death, Voyage of the Rock Aliens), Heavy Trip, Fade to Black, Drop Dead Fred, Savage Harvest, Hobgoblins, Bees (all slips), The Children, Uninvited, Cutting Class, Body Melt, Demonoid, Deathrow Gameshow, and The Undertaker.
The nice thing about VS is it’s easy to trade or sell movies you don’t like. I was in a good spot and caved

Re: Vinegar Syndrome 'Half Way to Black Friday' 50% Sale

Well, this was my first time I ordered on the halfway sale. I already preordered Miami Connection & the now out-of-stock Thriller-A Cruel Picture (Box), and at the same time, New York Ninja (Limited Edition Deluxe Box, also now out-of-stock) the week before.

But when the sale started, I bought some and added a few more titles across the weekend. Some I don't know if they can be part of the sale, but they were at a good price. Here's my final list of what I bought:

Putney Swope
Treasure of the Ninja and the Films of William Lee [AGFA] - Limited Edition Slipcover
Boardinghouse [AGFA + Bleeding Skull!] - Limited Edition Slipcover
Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things [AGFA] - Limited Edition Slipcover
Dolemite
The Human Tornado
The Films of Rudy Ray Moore (empty box, already have the VS releases of Petey Wheatstraw and Disco Godfather)
Death Machines
The Telephone Book
The Corpse Grinders
Welcome Home Brother Charles / Emma Mae
Flesh Eating Mothers
Ice Cream Man
Raw Force
Deathrow Gameshow
The Doll Squad / Mission: Killfast
An American Hippie In Israel
I Drink Your Blood
Hell Comes To Frogtown
Alien From L.A. (with slipcover)
Surf II (with slipcover)
Wacko (which I must be to buy this much)

I rather buy on the halfway sale instead of getting a halfway subscription. For about the same price, I'm getting the movies that I know I want.

Yeah, I've had numerous people asking me why I don't subscribe, considering I drop around $3-400 yearly on the three big VS sales (BF, 1/2 BF, and Valentine's smut). But that's still less than half of a subscription, and I ONLY get the movies I want (and even then, there's guaranteed to be a stinker in the bunch that I order). VS still has a penchant for releasing bad straight-to-video crapola, whether it's the lame-o 80s actioners, the cheapie horrors you only saw when you'd already rented EVERY VHS title in the horror section at Blockbuster, etc. So much of their output completely uninterests me.

Yeah, I've struggled even with just the couple of monthly bundles I've bought. I appreciate how eclectic their release slate is, but most of it is just not for me (especially since I'm losing the Battle of Sufficient Shelf Space!). I'd much rather pick and choose.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome 'Half Way to Black Friday' 50% Sale

The site is back up for "partners only" month. I think I got the better deal on the halfway sale on the 3 AGFA movies I bought:

Boardinghouse (w/ slipcover), now: $27.99. I paid $19.99.
Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things (w/ slipcover), now: $24.99. I paid $17.49.
Treasure of the Ninja and the Films of William Lee (w/ slipcover), now: $24.99. I paid $17.49.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome 'Half Way to Black Friday' 50% Sale

that's what I'm hearing too. We're supposed to get a $10 coupon if we bought on the final day of the halfway sale, it now looks like that coupon will make it the same price it was last week.

ETA: The $10 coupon goes into effect next Friday at midnight (Thursday 9PM west coast). The one disc I want, not saying the title, is currently the same price it was last week during the Halfway sale so with the $10 coupon I'll indeed be getting a good deal. If it remains in stock till then.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome 'Half Way to Black Friday' 50% Sale

Genuine question and no judgment, but what is the appeal of being a subscriber?

Anyway, during this sale I picked up TC 2000, Don't Answer the Phone and New York Ninja. And during the partner period, got Je Brule de Partout.

A combination of convenience and a significant discount. Subscribers also get a 50% discount year-round on partner titles and VS titles that aren't part of the subscription (VSA, VSP, Peekarama).

I think it's the sort of thing where if you have to think and decide if it's worth it, the answer's almost certainly "no". But if you're buying huge stacks of VinSyn titles anyway, I'm sure it's a godsend. Definitely not for me, but I can see why others would find it so appealing.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome 'Half Way to Black Friday' 50% Sale

I pre-ordered some of the newer titles back in April.

Does Vinegar Syndrome ship pre-orders early or at the same time as all the other subscriber & Half-Way To Black Friday orders?

I'm sure opinions will vary. The bigger your tolerance for exploitation films - good and bad - the better. I can usually have fun even with the bad movies. My friends also like exploitation films and are down for a bad movie from time to time, so I know most will get watched. It's nice just to sit back, not worry about anything, and see what shows up in your mailbox. You get introduced to new stuff. That also includes the previously mentioned discounts on partner titles. Those discounts have allowed me to take chances on titles that I've ended up really liking. Also, I'm active in the horror challenge every year, so it's incredibly useful to have lots of titles to draw upon in October. And if you don't like something, you can always sell it. I think most Vinegar Syndrome titles hold value pretty well, and you can even sell the slipcovers separately if you want. Those are highly collectible among some people. It's a nice perk of the subscription, but I'd prefer a cheaper subscription without the slipcovers.

But I guess that intangible benefit about the subscription is I genuinely like supporting Vinegar Syndrome. They release a lot of different types of films. Some are really good, and some are really bad. But regardless of the movie, it gets treated with great respect. You can pretty much be guaranteed it will be given the best presentation possible. Sometimes I might not entirely think that the film deserves to look as good as it does, but I really appreciate that about Vinegar Syndrome.

It's easy to be Criterion Collection and protect the "important" films. I like that there are labels like Vinegar Syndrome looking out for the genre films as well and am willing to support that mission, even if that means some duds along the way. I'm surprised more labels don't offer subscriptions like this.

The order usually goes Subscribers -> Flash pre-orders -> Orders placed during the sale itself. So you (and I!) are somewhere in the middle. It'll probably be a couple of weeks.

More than a little irritating that I preordered Thriller with a couple other in stock titles back in March, and now that entire order apparently sits behind all the subscriber orders from this sale.

I ordered Thriller and C&D back in March and got a shipping notification Monday night. Their shipping hub is in Colorado, I assume they're taking care of the West Coast first before the going to all the rest of the regions. I have a buddy in NY and he ordered the same two titles and has not received a notice yet.

And subscribers essentially pre-ordered everything back in November. They're always at the front of the line, VS has made no secrets about that. Those people are dropping nearly a grand a year to the company for the sole purpose of getting everything, and getting it first.

Meh. I pre-ordered a few titles in March and a few more during this sale. I hope they ship out soon. Likely next purchase from them will be TCM2 in 4k in the fall. It it is a bit off-putting to have no idea when your order will actually go out. Especially when they take your money ahead of time and not when it ships. At least they do with Paypal credit.

I don't mind that, but a little foresight and they could have had all the 5/31 preorders shipped out before they got a huge influx of 50% off orders.

Yeah, but that takes the incentive out of adding to your pre-order at the sale. Which is what they want people to do, it brings in more money. You obviously just pre-ordered, didn't get anything else at the sale, but that's not what they're hoping for. They wanted you to add to that order (and presumably, a lot of the pre-order folks like you did too).

Look on the bright side, man; at least you're in the second tier of priority when it comes to shipping. I'm in the third. Meaning I'll get my stuff after the subscribers, then the pre-orderers. I'm already not expecting it before the July 4th long weekend, and if I get it by then I'll be extremely happy about it.

See? Right there. dsa_shea is exactly what VS wants...someone to pre-order, AND buy from the sale.
