New Eureka Sale

I hope it's ok that I gave this it's own thread, rather than lumping it into international. Check for region. Some blu's will be R0; some will be RB. Many are blu/dvd multi packs

https://eurekavideo.co.uk/promotions/november-sale/

If there's anything you want, I suggest biting, as I don't expect that free international shipping will continue after Trump's new postal changes go through in June. I expect international postage to be $10-$15 USD per title (It's supposed to be identical to what the USPS charges us to ship to a given country.).

This is a good sale, especially with free ship. The 2 best deals I already have: Hitler's Hollywood/From Hitler To Caligari & the Lubitsch In Berlin box (I just paid almost that much for the dvd version..... oops!)

There's still a few I might get. Sale ends 11/21

There are also 2 smaller sales:

2 for 25 pounds: https://eurekavideo.co.uk/promotions/2-for-25/

2 for 20 pounds https://eurekavideo.co.uk/promotions/2-for-20/

Re: New Eureka Sale

I'm a little confused by the payment method. Can you pay directly with a credit card or do you have to use Worldplay, -and what is that anyway?

Worldpay is just the payment processor. You still enter your CC info on that page just like at other sites

Re: New Eureka Sale

Great sale. Not too many titles but a sweet set. Second the +ve opinion on Eureka. Fast, free, dependable international shipping and quality titles. No brainer if you are region free

Re: New Eureka Sale

Where does it say what region they are? I assumed it would be under "Technical Details, " but no luck.

  1. go to Blu-ray.com
  2. In the search box at the top, there's a country drop down to the right, click and select United Kingdom
  3. Now enter the title in the search box and hit enter
  4. In the details next to the title image, there's a Region Code mentioned
  5. Additionally, under the title image there are links to the front and back of the cover art (this is a hit or miss though)
  6. Click on 'back cover' or 'slip back' - in the enlarged image that pops up, scroll down to the bottom where Region Code is usually printed

Re: New Eureka Sale

There first 15-20 releases were region free, then the blu-ray consortium made them add region encoding. They also have the only non offensive (it's somewhat humorous) "please don't copy our discs" blurb I've ever seen. On USA discs, seeing the FBI logo before my movie really rubs me the wrong way.

Eureka's is pretty amusing. Rhino had some fun with it, too, back in the day:

Re: New Eureka Sale

I am considering Witness For The Prosecution, though I do have it on dvd. Turns out i already have blu's of the ones I was interested in. There are a couple of the 2 for 25's; but one's a late January pre-order; & I suspect they'll get cheaper than that if I'm patient.

The Blu-ray consortium doesn't "make" any distributor restrict their releases to only one region. There's plenty of mutilple or all-region Blu-rays out there, many from major studios. Most of the newer 3D Blu-ray discs are all-region because the studio only presses one disc for the whole world.

Whether a disc is restricted to a particular region is dictated by the studio, and their contract with the distributor if it's a title they licensed out. It's possible early Eureka titles were all-region because the studios didn't know if multiple distributors would want to license these titles. Once they got interest from multiple distributors on titles, the studios likely started requiring some region restrictions, so they could reduce the competition between distributors for the same title, meaning they could request a higher licensing fee.

Re: New Eureka Sale

You may be right. Oppo told me on the phone years ago from the hardware end the reason they removed the ability to play iso's was they were threatened with losing there license if they didn't. I would think the content providers could & would d the same thing.

Well, playing Blu-ray ISOs on a Blu-ray player may be something the Blu-ray Consortium would get involved with, since that may be breaking spec. Making an all-region disc doesn't break spec. Making an all-region player does break spec, which is why all the Blu-ray players that can change regions are after market mods.
