Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

Went to two different B&N stores today. Found most of what I was looking for, minus the Wong Kar-Wai set, as I was looking for one without the spider-wrap security devices on them.

Picked up:

The Complete Jacques Tati
Crash
I Married A Witch
The Irishman
Nightmare Alley
Pickup On South Street

If I find the Wong Kar-Wai set and pick-up a few of the July releases (Deep Cover, Mirror), I should have everything I want from the sale.

I've had it from VUDU for some time but I'm thinking of paying full price on AMZN or DD. One of my favorite movies.

Picked up Pariah and the Marlon Riggs box set. Might go back for Deep Cover when it's released.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

I've been trying to find the Wong Kar-Wai set locally, for In-Store Pick-Up.

All the stores that show it in-stock for pick-up, when I try to finish my order online, it updates to unavailable

I was thinking that and/or each store's inventory just not being correct.

One of the stores that showed the item in-stock, I visited yesterday and they couldn't find it.

I ended up deciding to pursue the older DVDs, after thinking more about the overall set, as I only am missing (4) of the films in it.

I am not a criterion collector, but finally buckled and got Sid & Nancy, which I have never owned but probably rented on a weekly basis when I was 18 LOL

It sucks, but I don't get why that makes it preferable to give business to Amazon?

If you already have Prime, you get free shipping no matter how small the order. B&N has a minimum for shipping.

But if you're going to order enough from B&N to get free shipping, I'd go with them just to reduce our dependence on Bezos...

Shipping via UPS on Barnes and Noble takes forever. My 3 discs that I bought shipped on the 3rd and won't arrive until Monday the 12th.

I thought I had it on VUDU but I was mistaken. I went ahead and ordered through DD and got it a few days later. Watching the supplements now. Good stuff. My little brain is swimming.

According to the tracking, Louisville,Kentucky. I guess BN has no West coast shipping facility.

As far as I'm aware they only have one main Warehouse which is the ALLIANCE Ent Shepherdsville, KY warehouse. A year or two ago, BN did start allowing stores to ship some items
directly again like BBY does. Those will depend on the item, somewhat local stock levels, and the packaging can vary wildly from item to item rather than using the standard ALLIANCE Wholesale
style packaging. After years of getting packages only from Shepherdsville I started seeing a few random packages from different locations around the country somewhere in 2019.

I;ve also had pretty good luck during the pandemic restriction calling an individual store and having them ship me an item directly -- last year I got War of the Worlds and Bruce Lee from a semi local
store which had it in stock when it was sold out online and in most other stores. That was when my membership was active and it even gave me the extra 10% off that sale so must have been Summer 2020

Punitively. I pay whatever for Amazon Prime, but they give me everything they promised and more. I paid $25 for the B&N membership primarily for the discount on Criterions during their annual sale and not only did I not get my money's worth, I didn't get what was promised to me at the time I paid for the membership. That's bad business practice and I don't want to give them my business unless I have no comparable alterative option.

Speaking of which, Defending Your Life still isn't available online but did come back in stock in my local store, so I bought a copy. Think I'm done for this sale now.

There's no real reason to get a BN Membership anymore. Their book prices are awful too. Um, this might not be a huge thing but the return policy at Amazon is better than BN.

I think they're both 30 days. Most BN items purchased online can also be returned in store.

BN items with Gift Receipt have 60 day return

Did they change this because I thought it used to be 14 days for "media" items?

Okay, so one central location. But, curious as to why dex14, who lives in the East coast gets his shipment in like a day, but me who lives in California it takes well over a week via UPS. I've ordered from BN before and it's always a slog for merchandise to come to my location.

Did Dex14 say where his came from? Plus a bunch is Post Office related and packages routed to different regions follow different protocols. There is the main distribution center, but the NorthEast has always had a different mailing situation for certain items -- i think with the BN HQ being in New York City they still have some unique warehouses there.

I also forget who's a member still and who isn't/ Member often get upgraded shipping, but it's still item and location dependent. Even when I had membership to the Southeast, I've had Priority, First Class, UPS Ground and SurePost/MI seemingly from the same sale.

A year or two ago (maybe around the buyout) I noticed the online and register receipts said 30 days though some of the old pages still said 15 days. Actually for members it was 30 days (or even a little longer according to the Managers) though I never saw that in writing.
