Couldn’t resist Scanner Cop I & II at least for the late night cable memories.

re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

And here’s mine:

Tough Huys Don’t Dance
Shriek Of The Mutilated
Cain And Abel
Commando Ninja
Surf II (already own; bought for resale*)
The Cellar
Smile
The Passing
AGFA Horror Trailer Show
The Long Walk
Wolfpack
Raw Nerve
Two Undercover Angels
Devil Story
Master Of The World
Unmasking the Idol
Beastmaster

* In fact, most of these will likely end up being resold. I tend to flip more VS/OCN releases than I keep. In this list, I’ve already seen Cellar, Smile, both Franco films (among the few of his that I can actually tolerate), Raw Nerve, and The Passing on cheaper formats back in the day, and portions of Beastmaster and Tough Guys on TV back then as well, so to a huge degree I’m mostly getting these for one-time revisits and the supplements that these labels do so well.

I was tempted to use the points I didn’t even realize I was earning in this sale (you membership folks must’ve really cleaned up!) to order some regular-price stuff, but didn’t want to waste them on things that will probably be on sale later. Still need to upgrade five of their HK titles from my old non-anamorphic import DVDs, but need to keep an eye those stock numbers for a while.

re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

Dammit! With the sale ending in a few hours (and the fact that I got paid today factored in too), I caved in and got

Summer of '84
Schizoid/X-Ray (the photos of a deranged Doc Brown in the screenshots sold me...Christopher Lloyd plays an EXCELLENT villain)
Out of Order

Ok, that (and a still high unwatched pile from the January sale) gives me a lot of VS to watch over the next few months.

I've seen Schizoid. Lloyd was one of the best parts of that film, he's really creepy. I just didn't find the film good enough for repeat viewings.

re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

Vinegar Syndrome has moved Culture Shock Releasing’s titles to their ‘Going Out Of Print’ section, as the label is leaving OCN.

$10 for regular editions, $15 for limited editions. Probably the best price for those interested in sampling a lot of this stuff without (potentially) feeling cheated :

Yeah, I'm glad this will start to be a yearly thing. I cleaned up at the sale back in January of this year.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

Twice yearly, sort of! As per post #90 in this thread, they did a similar sale in July only with slightly elevated discount prices. Both great opportunities to take chances on stuff (or alternately to discover which titles I overpaid for ). I do wonder if they’ll have the $10 pricing again in January. Seemed almost too good last year.

Oh yeah, $10 was amazeballs, but I'm good with any Blus below $15.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

With that many new titles in one week you just know there’s going to be some crap. No way they have 20 something new releases that are all good 😬(with partners and sub labels)

Re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

Dude, if VS released just THREE titles at once, I'd bet my mortgage that at least one title will be crap. I love the label, but there's no denying they tout some really garbage movies as being "unseen gems". They're not.

I support VS for the quality movies they do release (too many to name), as well as some of the ones that are true unseen gems. I forgive 'em for releasing some total dreck too. No one's forcing me to buy them.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

I think this is where the $10-15 sales are at least reasonably helpful. Personally I can’t even justify a lot of VS stuff I’m curious about at their half-way or Black Friday pricing, and I’ve always waited out their new releases as long as possible, just on principle. At $10, $12, even $15, though, I can afford to take more risks. And a lot of their stuff, regardless of quality, does retain decent resale value when it inevitably goes out of print. They dig up a lot of real dogs and present them (and to be honest, treat them) like unheralded masterpieces, and then further swath them in needless, overpriced packaging for the FOMO crowd (D.A.R.Y.L.? Really!?), so these sales are often the only effective way to see a lot of their deep catalog releases for not a lot of cash, and for much closer to what the experience is actually worth.

Twelve-year-old me saw (and never forgot) boxes for a ton of these films back in the early mom n’ pop video store era, when every shop padded their inventory with precisely the kind of low-budget crap the boutiques are exhuming and restoring these days. But I watch most of it just as I would have back then: one and done. Only now I’m more grateful to have resale options.

Once in a while, though, something you expect to be forgettable junk turns out to be real keeper, which is cool.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

There are daily deals during Subscriber Week! 15 titles today for $15 each. It's about a halfway split between VS titles and partner label releases. You can 'add to your order' throughout the week to stack shipping.

I grabbed "Hard Rock Zombies / Slaughterhouse Rock" from the sale, & "Made In Hong Kong: Volume 1" while I was in the neighborhood.

Re: Vinegar Syndrome - Subscriber Week Sale

The Iceman Cometh with Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung is on sale for $15! I'd jump on that if I didn't have it already.

I ordered The Mob, 'cuz it's 70s and Canadian, with a bonus feature hockey movie.
Then took a chance on Blood Delirium, even though it comes from my least favorite era of horror: Late 80s to early 90s. I also considered Last Gasp at $10, but even the reviews on the site from VS fans are tepid at best. Unless someone here can change my mind?

Yeah, already own Iceman Cometh. I went with Air Doll. Added that to my order of Southern Comfort.

I contemplated LAST GASP earlier today, but just couldn’t pull the trigger. I didn’t see the site reviews, but I’ve seen enough similar write-ups elsewhere over the years to avoid it even when the DVD was a bargain. Robert Patrick did so much DTV stuff like that after T2 you’d have thought he would’ve fired his agent. I'm not surprised the slip version is still over 1000. Then again, so are most of the other VS-specific slip offerings, which you’d think might be a clue to VS that not every title needs one, or the markup that goes with it.

The partner titles mostly (though not entirely) have the reverse effect, with the slip versions selling more than the standards. AIR DOLL, incidentally, is down to 20 copies from a couple hundred when the sale started. Solid movie, too. Not as ‘heavy’ as Kore-eda’s other films but still distinctly his work.

Box sets are on sale tomorrow. Hope you didn't overspend on the HK set if they mark it down tomorrow.

I wanna give Six String Samurai a try one of these days, just don't know if I wanna pull the trigger today when there are still gonna be at least two more days of "BD Slip" sales, my preferred buys from VS.

Man, they can't give away that Televised Terror set, can they?

Six String Samurai is awful. I remember back in the day when Chris Gore named it his favorite film of that year - he really championed. I rented it on LD and it was atrocious. Don't know what he was smoking.

^ Precisely the reason I waffle on this title so much. Someone like Chris Gore raves about it, then people I know (who do like indie cinema) say it's horrible.
