Purchased mine at Costco for $79.00. Certainly Borders with a 20% off coupon is another good option.
Normally, I sugguest purchasing books on-line and save the shopping hassle and no tax. However, with this book set I would suggest B&M.
First, the box is not heavyweight quality, compression on some of the copies was noticeable. I wouldn't think shipping this around any more than needed would be prudent.
Second, the wrapper is very thin and easily ripped. If this is a gift item you might want to inspect individual copies.
The book's binding (quality) seems to be fine.

I'll report that my book's binding is confident. I've just finished going through volume one. At first I was worried that I'd wind up cracking the spine or pulling pages loose since the book is so thick and the pages heavy. But the book opened flat fine. After spending a week and a half going through it, it's still just as mint as it was when I pulled it out of the box.
I can't vouch for copies recieved through the mail, but my wrapper is made of thick, sturdy cardboard which I can't imagine ripping.
And most important of all, I'm still laughing my ass off. There's no 'current event' or political cartoons. These strips are for the ages.
The only dissappointment I have, is that the collection dosen't carry over the conents of that marvolous Far Side Anniversary collection. I don't remember the exact name, but it had several interesting little essays by Larson about drawing the strip, and a big section of comics that were rejected by his editor for being too offensive. I really gotta track down a copy of that. Then I can die happily.

damnnnn this thing is huge!! Only gripe i suppose is, i wished the length was shorter, and make the width bigger so i can at least fit this in my bookshelf. I have no place to store this! Any one else have this problem? But other then that, I just love this!!

I haven't actually seen any copies yet, but do find myself a bit concerned about the reported size of the books.
It's just that particularly large, heavy volumes frequently have binding problems. Storing the books upright puts a lot of stress on the spines.

You might be right, Josh. I've just got mine laying flat with some other coffee-table books, so hopefully this will reduce any stress put on the bindings.

Storing it flat is the way to go. That solves Josh-da-man's spine stress concerns and Rainet's width and length problem.

I can confirm that it is still $81.00 at www.BN.com , the $5 coupon works, shipping is free, and that gift cards can be used to purchase.
I'll be returning my CostCo copy.

Now 40% off at Amazon too...
If you can get someone to STL, it will be cheaper than BN.com.
EDIT - unless you use the 10% off coupon AMXEML3 which I found after much hunting around...
