Dick_grayson: How's Despair? I just finished Bend Sinister and wanted to know if the rest of Nabokov will ever live upto Lolita.

It's pretty good, but be careful not to read the back of the book, as there's a major spoiler. I prefer Pale Fire and Ada to this one, but I could read anything Nabakov or Fitzgerald have written.

Just finished all of the Robin Hobb books- golden Fool, Fool's Errand, Fool's fate, the previous ones, etc. Really good stuff. One of the better fantasy series I've read.
Reading "Crossing California" now. Jewish coming of age book in Northern Chicago set in the late 70's. Never been jewish, but I did live in Chicago. Book was very well reviewed, and so far I'm inclined to agree.

Just finished Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and The Prometheus Deception by Robert Ludlum. Ender's Game wasn't too shabby, The Prometheus Deception was excellent. Definitely recommended. And just picked up State of Fear by Michael Crichton.

Just got Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke in paperback (using a 25% off Borders coupon). Will get Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman sometime this week.
But when I'll get around to reading them is another question. What I'm actually currently reading are Philosophical Foundations of Education (7th Edition), Winning Strategies for Classroom Management and Marva Collins' Way: Returning Excellence to Education- plus various education articles.

Online reviews of "Declare" are pretty strong. I loved Powers' older books ("Anubis Gates", "On Stranger Tides"), but the last couple bogged down for me under the weight of their own complex mythology.

Hersh details how serious decisions were made in secret by a small handful of people, often based on selective information. Part of the problem was, and remains, a lack of human intelligence in critical parts of the Middle East, but it also has much to do with the considerable infighting within the administration by those trying to make intelligence fit preconceived conclusions. A prime example of this is the story about the files that surfaced allegedly detailing how Iraq had purchased uranium from Niger in order to build nuclear weapons. Though the files were soon proven to be forgeries, the Bush administration still used them as evidence against Saddam Hussein and therefore part of the reason for invading Iraq.
