I hated the book, I thought it was soulless drivel with empty characters. But I get why its so popular and the inevitable movie will only make it more so.

I didn't have high hopes for the series, but was pleasantly surprised. The first one had a little bit of a slow start, but it really picked up and I enjoyed the story. I found myself caring about a few of the characters and engaged in the story.

I'm about halfway through the 2nd book now. It's been decent, a little less on the action and more focused on political issues, propaganda, etc.

Edit: Finished this (not a really long book). I thought the first 2 were really good, the third one I thought was generally pretty mediocre, and irritating as well.

Re: what are you reading? (january 11)

I heard an interview with Broaddus where he describes this book as putting the "urban" back into urban fantasy, which otherwise consists of white chicks shagging vampires and killing werewolves (or vice versa) in cities that are about as racial diverse as Helsinki.

Re: what are you reading? (january 11)

Rereading Alan Dean Foster's early Flynx books. On Orphan Star right now. Pulpy sci fi, not great stuff, but fun.
