I dont have all of them from back then but I have a few good ones especially the first two Master of Kung Fu and Master of whatever.

I also still have an old book set collection of # 6 to whatever and its still in great shape.

once the series got up to #100 some of the titles and stories got strange or just weird where the writers of the stories in the books kind of missed the point about the Choose Your Own Adventure books

I ran across some at my dad’s a few days ago. I don’t think they were the specific “Choose Your Own Adventure” brand, but from one of the many different publishers doing similar stuff back then. I didn’t look at them too closely, but they mostly appeared to be D&D types of stories.

I got nostalgic about them a couple years ago and bought a few of the originals on amazon or ebay. Nostalgia passed by the time they arrived and they’re in a box somewhere, unread.

Yes I have about 30 to 40 in pretty good condition. They were my favorite reading as a kid.

I still have the Apartheid Choose Your Own Adventure book. Im surprised they even made a choose your own adventure book on an african real life subject like that.

The Ghost Hunter book that I have, its another part or continuation of the Harlowe Thronby character world.

I kind of remember there was a Choose Your Own Adventre book that involved slime. Dunno if it was a book of the main Choose Your Own Adventure series or that the slime book was part of a spin off series for younger kids or whatever?

I remember reading these when I was a kid. Looking at a list of them on wikipedia, the only ones I really remember are Curse of Chimney Rock and The Third Planet from Altair, but I probably read a dozen or so of them when I was still in grade school.

There were also similar lines of these types of books like Twistaplot from Scholastic, and Which Way books (the only one of those I got was the Star Trek one).

Me, I think the Master of martial arts books had the better story plots than any of the other choose your own adventure books.

Were any of these ever published in hard cover? By now, all of them surely have turned into a yellowed, falling apart mess, since all of the ones I ever remember seeing were published with the cheapest news pulp (non acid-free) paper, and cheap, non-stitched paperback bindings. I wouldn't want to own any now, if none exist in permanent editions / acid-free paper versions.

The elementary school I attended back in the early 1980's had hardcover editions of all the Choose Your Own Adventure books. I never found any hardcovers being sold in bookstores, just paperback copies.

Jesus. Only you would say something like this. For the record, all of my Choose your own adventure books, which are paperback, and I've owned for 30+ years are still in good condition.

The Cave of Time and The Mystery of Chimney Rock may have been handed down but minus some fading my books are fine.

The hardcovers from your school library were probably rebound paperbacks. My high school library would send its mass-market paperback books off to a bindery and had them bound as hardcovers.

"The Third Planet from Altair" did receive a hardcover edition. That was the first CYOA book I read; checked it out from the public library.

I still remember picking up a copy of one when I was a kid. It blew my mind.

I think I still have the first 25-30 of the original run in boxes somewhere. I recall getting The Cave of Time as a birthday gift when I was around 10 and went through all the branches in a single afternoon. I was totally hooked after that one and got one after another.

But even as an early teen, I quickly discovered that the quality of the writing varied. I liked pretty much anything Edward Packard did but was not a fan of R.A. Montgomery. The latter would throw in open endings and choices where you would control reality (e.g., 'If the monsters are space aliens turn to page 78. If they are just people in costumes turn to page 80.' As a kid, I wondered what the hell kind of choices were those? They just didn't seem to be in the spirit of the books.

I picked up Return to the Cave of Time as a secondhand paperback a couple of years ago. I don't recall finishing that one but really should go back to it.

Mine are all scattered to the four winds, unfortunately, and the reseller market prices are ridiculous.

Seems like if all those involved could make a deal, getting these back in print - at least on Kindle with page links - would be a no-brainer money maker for the nostalgic and hungry to share a great piece of their childhood with their own kids.

I had one set in the Himalayas or such and the back cover promised Indy would have an encounter with a snow leopard. I tried so many ways to find that snow leopard, I even resorted to reading it straight through and it wasn’t in the book.

I’m still bitter.

I helped clean a house when a friend passed away last year so I added these books to my collection. Be an Interplanetary Spy is more like a comic book with puzzles but an interesting title nonetheless.
