The other ridiculous part is that I swear the reason given for wanting Spider-man to be single is to have him be more relatable to the audience, and yet try to read a synopsis of this story and see how relatable it is.
The whole thing of keeping him single and a failure in life is stupid. A character, specially after 60 years, has to evolve in life. Like Superman, there is a lot of life and stories after getting married and having kids. Peter Parker should have had that, as it worked on the Spider-Girl series, it worked again in Renew Your Vows and it worked in Dark Ages. Peter Parker evolves and there still a young one running around named Miles Morales and another one coming in May Parker. The biggest problem with Marvel and DC books over the past 25 years is that they stopped growing and made it worse by going back to things of the past trying to cater readers in their 50s instead of younger readers

People still keep falling for this shit? Thirty years ago when "The Death of Superman" was all over the evening news I knew they were already planning on bringing him back.

And I'm sure that
Spoiler:
Kamala will be alive and kicking in time for the The Marvels to hit a theater near you.

Re: Marvel Comics - 2022 Thread

The story doesn't even "earn" that surprise. At all. Like no hints, no build up, just that? What the hell is going on over there?

Of course this is probably just a really, really, really stupid way
Spoiler:

to resurrect Ms. Marvel as a mutant, complete with MCU powers, since mutants (and now everyone) can be resurrected with the Krakoa protocols. But uh, why not do that in an x-book or maybe make a Ms. Marvel book, why in Spider-man in an arc where she is seen in like two panels?

On the bright side
Spoiler:

I can't wait to see Iman's reaction to this crap

Count me in! This was Mantlo in his prime. I don't expect much out of comics based on toys but he hit it out of the park with Rom and those early Micronauts comics. I was very slowly picking up back issues of Rom but I guess I can move on to another title now.

Kinda surprised no one has brought this up. Do you really think it is permanent or is this just click-bait?

“The Punisher Is No More”: Marvel Officially Gets Rid Of Its Most Controversial Character (msn.com)

The only reason I wouldn't be surprised if he was officially retired is due to the various extremist groups and others adopting his logo for shitty purposes.

Yeah, that's one big problem for Disney/Marvel right there. They allowed the character and its logo to become a symbol for things like police brutality and extreme right-wing politics. I was always kind of surprised that they never protected the trademark and allowed so much unlicensed merchandise using the skull logo to be sold. Hell, even the "American Sniper" guy used the skull in the logo for his security training company.

They probably should have had the Punisher go "woke" and start targeting crooked/racist cops, protecting minorities/immigrants, and going after right-wing extremists. Still the same brutal Punisher, but he just changed his focus on a new enemy.

Click-bait, is my vote. After reading a couple articles on it, the events in the story sound creative or editorially driven, not corporate. Which means that he'll be back as the Punisher with the Punisher logo (or someone else will) sooner or later, as the story or sales dictates.

It's not even the first (or even third) stupid misuse of the character. Not even his first death.

There was that story where everything to him was a crime and he'd go berserk. That was cos the writer hated Punisher. Later it was retconned to be that Frank had been drugged. There was also that dumbass Punisher as an angel storyline. And Frankencastle. Heck, he even once got surgery to pull a Soul Man. All those were eventually retconned. This will be too.

Re: Marvel Comics - 2022 Thread

Death of the Venomverse 1-5 is coming starting in August. There will be 5 variant connecting covers for these books and my shop told me book 1 is 1:50 and books 2-5 are 1:10. Is this something they normally do? Can anyone recommend sites to buy the 1:50 ratio book or is ebay likely my best choice? My shop is fairly small and wont be ordering anywhere near that many and I dont really have much experience trying to purchase online. I am not really sure where to look.

Try bigtimecollectibles.com. They are listing a buttload of covers for this title, but I'm not sure they have the connecting covers. But - they frequently get exclusives and announce when you can order them. I've picked up a few DC variant covers that way recently. Some sold out quick, so ya gotta be on the ball. Sign up to get their emails and you'll be notified about upcoming events. Not saying they'll have 'em, but it's one possible option.

Your local shop is confused. The connecting covers has two types, each for issues 1-5. The first is the 1:10 variant, where the covers have the normal trade dress (book logo, publisher logo, price, UPC, etc.). The second is the 1:50 variant which are virgin covers (just the art).

So, yeah, they should be able to get you the 1:10 connecting variant for the first issue as well as the others. Otherwise, yes, you can look on eBay, but keep in mind, prices on eBay for those variants are usually highest during the pre-order and newly on-sale phases. I find that they usually drop after a few months.

As many suspected, Kamala Khan is being resurrected as a mutant. The new series will be written by Kamala Khan herself, Iman Vellani.

And seems like she kept her old powers (adding on the MCU light powers, I'd guess)

It's kind of amazing to me how quickly we went from "screw the X-men" to "screw the Inhumans."

edited to add:
Ok, so they're keeping the Inhuman origins but making her (also) a mutant, not changing her powers, but cool that they got Iman I guess?

Sincere question here since I don't read Marvel anymore - is Ms Marvel popular with comic fans? Or is this more about the shiny new thing since the MCU is pushing her?

Kamala Khan was pretty big deal when she was introduced about ten years ago. Her book was at least a cult hit, attracted media attention, and drew in non-traditional readers that the big companies are always chasing after.

The character sort of slipped into the background noise of the Marvel Universe once her original writer left her book.

Wonder if there's anyone who didn't see that coming when they killed her off last month.

Similar to Miles Morales and Jeff the LandShark, Kamala has a huge cult following of the new generation of readers, which is what the industry needs. And similar to Miles and Carol Danvers,
her popularity has attracted the worst gatekeeping misogynistic racist trolls that the shitty social media era can get. As someone who’s read her books and most of her appearances throughout the Marvel Universe, I can honestly say that Kamala is great and I’m glad Iman is writing her, as she is almost a living personification of the character. Both of them are exactly what this industry needs

This.
Also before her death she didn't have a solo ongoing but I'm not sure if that was indicative of her popularity or just the powers that be wanting to shoe her into this Spider-man story (which was still really crappily done even if it was the plan)

I don't know. Like Carol Danvers she can't maintain a solo book. How many relaunches and number 1 issues have both of them had over the last 10 years.

Again I'm not sure what kind of measure that is. Besides legacy titles which depend on numbering almost every title/character does this at Marvel.
