That's a classic Zeck cover. I've always loved that one.

I always considered that one and the one below as siblings. Poor Cap. Always getting eaten by animals!

Ha, good point, maybe that's why I like it.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I loved me some Sgt. Rock as a kid. This is an issue I had.

I also had a couple of the Sgt. Rock action figures as a kid. I thought I had imagined them until I saw some photos of some online a few years ago.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I bought the comics (have a really long run of Our Army at War/Sgt. Rock). I remember the action figures, but I could never find a Sgt. Rock, just other figures in the set (that I didn't want).

That vintage Toys R Us price sticker on the toy took me back many years.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

That Detective cover is iconic. Great stuff - back when Carmine Infantino was still great!

Here's another one from Nick Cardy. (How many of you are familiar with his work?)

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Murphy Anderson signed my copy of that Detective comic, and Nick Cardy signed my Showcase #76.

I feel so lucky to have been into '60s & '70s comics at a time when many of them could be found cheap, and most of the artists and writers were still alive and doing shows, and didn't charge for signatures.

In honor of seeing Dune Part Two today, here is a Marvel Super Special I owned of a movie I never could get into as a kid. I would probably own every Marvel Super Special now if I had my druthers. Loved those!

Yep, at the time she was married to artist Jeff Jones, and when Berni got the gig to draw the story, he got all his artist buddies (Jeff, Louise, Mike Kaluta, etc.) to be reference models for the story, they spent the night photographing the whole thing so that Wrightson could draw it (a couple examples below, featuring Louise and Mike Kaluta as the villain):

I loved this issue as a kid and heard that they are supposedly talking of making a feature out of it.

My bad. I just looked it up and it isn't a feature but an animated show coming out this year.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Still pretty cool but I would love to see a live action version.

Actually, the cartoon looks like it could be neat, Viola Davis reprises her role (voice) as Amanda Waller and Sean Gunn will be G.I. Robot. I'll definitely check it out.

My serious collecting days ran from probably 1980-1986 but it's crazy how many of these covers are familiar to me.

I am very similar. Mine were probably from around 1979 to 1990. From age 6 to around 17.

I had so many Archie comics that they all kinda blur together and not many stand out. My dad used to buy me the Christian Archie comics when he would go to the Baptist Book Store. I wasn't a fan of those, even as a kid, but I always thought this was a fun cover...

Had this one too. It was really strange. Actually, I had probably all of them since my dad insisted on me having them along with all the Chick Tracts. You want to give some fucked up shit for your kids, give them these: Chick.com: Tracts

Bet that mom group might lose their minds if this was published today...

Liberace in a Christian comic. Oops! Or maybe that was a dig. I can't tell for sure.

I believe this is the first comic I ever owned. My dear mum brought it home for me. No wonder I turned out as I did!

Was this actually published around the film release date? That cover price is insanely high for the period.

And the cover art is absolutely stunning.

There are cenobites who are less creepy than the blonde girl in the last frame.

Yeah, the price is correct. MSS were always a little more expensive because they were oversized but I think they were still on newsprint. No high glossy paper or anything from what I remember.

Here is another example from around the same era. Same price.
