Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Prices

Per a suggestion on another thread, thought it'd be nice to put all the Harry Potter prices here (both the 1 and 2-disc editions). I decided to put on the one's I've found online even if they're more expensive than others. It's interesting to see the range.

Store - 1-Disc/2-Disc
Amazon - 15.96/21.99
Best Buy - 14.99/20.99 (2 for $20 when you buy any of the other HP movies, regular DVD only)
Buy.com** - 16.97/22.99
Circuit City - 13.99/22.99 (Free lithograph on regular DVD, though I assume you could get one for the SE)
CompUSA - 14.99/19.99
Costco.com - ??.??/20.99 (didn't find the 1-disc on the site)
DeepDiscountDVD** - 20.95/24.55
DVD Planet** - ??.??/21.67
Fry's* - 13.99/??.??
FYE - 12.99/15.99 (after MIR)
Overstock.com** - 15.79/21.88
Walmart.com - 15.87/21.87
Target - 15.99/22.99 (Exclusive 3-D cover on SE)
TowerRecords.com - 16.99/19.99

* According to fidodido, this price is based on the LA ad.
** I got these on DVD Price Search. I noticed that it had not updated Amazon's new price so some might be off...

Thanks to Speedy for the BB, Target and CC prices on the other threads

Update: I have added the exclusive deals...
Update #2: Amazon raised their price of the 2-disc to $20.99
Update #3: Amazon raised their AGAIN to $21.99. Also added CompUSA to the list.

This is nice, thanks. I know CC and Target have "exclusives" like a lithograph or a 3D cover. It might help some to add those.

Me, I'm going for the 1D at CC. I just can't justify the jump in cost of the 2D.

Thanks much, these type of topics should be made more often.

I think I'm gonna do my Amazon preorder now too.

Good thread. I'm leaning strongly towards 1-disk at CC. I don't want to reward companies for charging extra for the 2-disk extras that used to be "free" (and I only have a lukewarm interest in anyhow).

So true. Unfortunately I tend to be an extras junkie and I'll typically pay a little extra, but $7 more for an extras disc is getting extreme.

Since I usually only watch them once, it seems like renting the extras disc might be the way to go. Interestingly, NF has the extras disc listed for both HP 4 and Narnia, but not for King Kong. I was considering passing on the latter 2 completely because of strong rumors of double dips planned for later this year.

First some brilliant marketing executive thought of the planned double-dip: "Hey, if we purposefully hold back some of our extra features on the first release and keep quiet about our second planned release, then we can sucker the big fans into buying this twice!" Now another marketing executive thought: "Hey, if we split off the extras we normally included into a separate release, we can then sell a barebones release for what we used to sell the special edition with the extras and we can charge a lot more for the release with the extras disc". [Disclaimer: Quotes were made up by me and are my opinions.]

Yes, I really LOVE those marketing executives. What will they come up with next to assault the wallets of movie fans? I'm not a big enough fan of extras to put up with all this. I'm holding off buying more and more releases lately.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Anyone know of what the exclusives are? I know Target has an exclusive 3d cover.

As others have pointed out, you can get the 2-disc ed. for $15.99 after MIR, or the single-disc ed. for $12.99 after MIR at Fye.com.

I've updated the original post with the exclusives and will add FYE's as well.

Thanks OP for the thread. Helpful for Lady & the Tramp and I was wondering if someone was going to do it for this. Think I'm going with the 2-disc at BB because I've still got credit to burn there. Gotta have the 2-disc since the other three have been 2-discers. (Even though I am in total agreement with the people not wanting to reward WB for doing the 1-disc barebones, 2-disc loaded for extra $$$.)

Keep in mind for those doing the FYE thing that many stores don't honor those prices. They're higher and justify it because you have to pay shipping on the website. That is why FYE will no longer be getting my business, which is fine by me since I hate waiting for the rebates to show months later, if at all.

If you happen to live by a DVD Planet b&m (Huntington Beach or Rancho Cucamonga, CA) they're taking preorders on the 2-disc for $18.99 ($20.46 after CA sales tax). However, I'm not 100% sure that this is true for the Huntington store since I haven't been there, but it should be the same.

Can you elaborate? Are they giving out the actual Scene IT with the purchase of the GoB movie? That's incredible if it is.

From Walmart's website, they have an exclusive bonus disc:

Exclusive Includes Scene It Sampler Game And "Inside Look" DVD.
Also looks like it is packaged with the single disc and about $4.00 more than just the movie disc. Not too hot.

Just got the CompUSA ad and they have the single disc for $14.99 and the 2-disc for $19.99. Think I'll be price matching!

Meijer has a $3 coupon that can be printed off and used if you buy the 2-disk version. You can get a box of microwave popcorn if you buy the 1-disk version.

Here is the link to the coupon: Meijer coupon link

The e-mail I got from Circuit City this morning (Subject: "Don't wait! Huge savings this week at Circuit City") is totally misleading. In the bottom, left corner, they show the 2-disc version and have $13.99 as the price. When you click the link, it tells you the 2-disc version is $22.99.

I wonder if I can print the e-mail and take it to a store for a PM?

Here's a link from the e-mail: Having trouble viewing this?

If you have Amazon Prime, check your Gold Box deals (upper right of screen). Today mine contained $1.00 off for 2-disc HPGOF. That plus the pi/2 off made it $18.66. Not bad with free 2-day shipping.

Actually, the $7 difference is not coming from the studios. Warner Bros., who has become so fond of releasing 1 and 2 disc editions at the same time (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins, now Harry Potter) typically lists the MSRP as only a $2 difference; typically $29.9x for the one disc and $31.9x for the 2 disc.

Tough decision: get it for free at BB with some gift cards, or pay the dough at Target for the collectible cover. Hmmm...

Maybe it's just me but I can't tell from the descriptions on FYE which is disc is which on their site. I can see a difference in price but that's about it. Which is the 2 disc wide screen?

just noticed that bestbuy.com is advertising the hpgof 2-disc (eventhough the front cover is just for 1-disc) for the 2 for $20, $14.99 if only gof. i'll try to order it tomorrow online when pick up option becomes available. will probably have to tell them that what was advertised is the 2-disc. anyway, is the regular fs/ws edition just 1-disc? here's the link http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage...&type=category

note the title: Harry Potter & Goblet Of Fire (2 Disc) - Widescreen Dubbed Subtitle AC3 - DVD

I think that's a typo--each of the three HP listings say "two disk" in the title, but only the expensive one has the details of the second disk in the item description.
