No, just the general restrictions which my order did not fall under. It's only $4, but just strange.

Which 15% did you get to work? I couldn't get any of them to work.

The member 15% codes which expire June 9 are currently working. I used 3 of them today and tested the remaining ones I didn't use to confirm they are also active. However the two 15% codes due to become active June 5 were not working yet. Might want to make sure your membership number is entered correctly before adding a coupon.

It appears almost everything discounted 40% or more is not eligible for b2g1 free sale online anymore. Also it looks as if they fixed it so coupons no longer work with the b2g1 sale. The only way I could get a coupon to work was to remove an item from my cart. Then it would deduct from one of the remaining items. It was fun while it lasted yesterday.

I was able to get a coupon to work (V7X9W7M) - just tested it though, did not finish the checkout. By the way - thanks for all of the work you do posting coupon codes, offering information and helping out with questions - it's very much appreciated!

Thanks for the updates on working codes. I'm starting to run out of codes I can still use on my members account, and work with the b2g1 free sale. A lot of them are coming up already redeemed on my account. So I can't test them all on what still works with the sale. Yesterday all the active 15% codes were working. From reports it looks like the 20% code was the first coupon not to work on the sale yesterday.

It's not a good sign when you start getting a message your order isn't eligible for a coupon and have to remove an item to get it to work. The fine print for the sale does mention other coupons are not supposed to be combined with the offer. So B&N is probably trying to tighten up any loose ends today. Coupon usage with the sale could end completely at anytime.

I saw that Desperate Housewives Season 4 qualifies for this. How does Barnes and Noble handle preorders with their free shipping--will they ship as things are available, or will the whole order be held until the last preordered item becomes available?

EDIT: Found answer:
Some items may be available to ship sooner than others, or may ship from different warehouses. If you choose "Ship everything in as few packages as possible," your entire order will not ship until all items (including pre-orders) are in stock.

Some random thoughts about this sale:

(1) If you see a bargain, don't delay...it may disappear before you know it. Thanks to Laser & other posters, I was able to place an order for a set of Deadwood for around $65 (using 15% coupon) before it vanished from the sale (making each season around $22). Unfortunately, I didn't order an additional 2 sets (one gift, one for sale/trade) due to trying to find 15% codes that worked with my other 2 memberships. Also, I was investigating some of the bigger ticket items to see if the codes would be better applied there (most were so overpriced that they could be found cheaper elsewhere during sales such as the DD 20% sale). It got late & I went to bed thinking that surely the discounts would last at least through today (wrong!).

The moral of the story is...as soon as you find several comparably-priced wanted bargain items that will make up a good sale order, better to place it (code or no code) rather than risk losing out altogether on a good deal.

Sadly, this happened with several other 40% items (Rome, the Rambo Collection tin, etc.). Chalk me up as a slow learner who didn't learn from past B&N sales when the higher-discounted items didn't last long. Next time I see an upcoming B&N sale, I'm getting my wish list together and ordering the main priorities as soon as the sale is activated.

(2) If a discount code doesn't work, it might be because the items are preorders. I had one order "disqualified" (had John Adams, etc.) but tried substituting a Battlestar Galactica Season 3 for one item and...Voila! the coupon worked!

BTW...if you missed out on the Deadwood set, have no fear...you can still get the "Complete Seasons 1-3 set" as part of the sale...for a whopping $240+ per set. If you bought three sets (or 3 with comparable prices), you would get each set for the "bargain" price on "only" $160...as opposed to buying them individually WITHOUT the B2G1 sale for $100.

Has anyone tried doing a ship to home order from a B&N store? It might be a way to do a work around to still get some of the higher discounted DVDs on the web site for the sale. However using one of the 2 printable store coupons might be a ymmv scenario since they still have a few more days until they are valid, and the fine print mentions being excluded from ship to home orders.

I was wondering the same thing (it certainly worked out great with the some of the great sales in the past, including the B1G1 sale in Jan. '07 when practically everything in stock at the warehouse was available at the online sale price). I'm assuming that's what you're talking about here. It would take the sting out of missing out on some of the 40% items that were available yesterday...items that had excellent sale prices even without a discount coupon...even if it would be more aggravation than ordering from home.

Hope someone tries it & posts the results since I live 25 miles from the closest B&N and it costs around $8 in gas for a round trip (plus the hour or so on the road) unless I have another reason to go to the neighboring town.

BTW...thanks for keeping us updated, Laser...and for trying to warn us to jump on the sale items as soon as possible (wish I had heeded the advice more closely).

One other problem that may be causing the coupon not to work is attempting to order three of the same item. For some reason this disallows the coupon

While I did not try for any box sets, (saving up for the DD sale, and yes, I'll get what I'm after there for less even with the B&N links/discounts) I was able to pick up "Cars", "Toy Story", and "The Three Stooges Collection 2" for ~$36 using the links/codes for new accounts. Very nice, and much less than at DD during "the sale"!

I can get the coupon codes to work, but it doesn't look like they are taking 15% off. My total was 81.00 before coupon code, and 74 bucks afters. Not much of a savings.

The codes only give a discount on the highest priced item in your cart, and not the entire order. You're probably seeing a discount on only one item. However while it might not seem like much it can all add up if you maximize all the discounts available.

Well, both my B2G1 orders appear to be completely f*cked up!

My first order was 3 of the Dirty Harry Ultimate Set, and the total when I checked out was $96.41... the e-mail receipt they sent me is now saying that my shipment price is $147.32

My second order was 3 of the Thief of Bagdad, and the total when I checked out was $48.90... the e-mail receipt they sent me is now saying that my shipment price is $76.04

What they are trying to do is give me my 10% AAA discount and my $5 off Paypal, but NO Buy 2 Get 1 Free! (the 'shipment prices' match that exactly).

To further highlight B&N's gross incompetence... when I log on to their website and check my orders - a third total is listed for each order ($100.08 and $50.85, respectively).

Too late to call tonight, so we'll see what happens with this mess tomorrow.

Why would you need 3 Dirty Harry Sets.

Not speaking for the OP, but here are some reasons I have ordered multiple sets on sale in the past:

(1) Gifts;
(2) Trade w/ friends who sell at flea market;
(3) Sell on net to help offset cost of the one I keep.

I'm sure there are other reasons that people order multiple sets (compulsive collecting or some other obsession...or maybe one of their relatives is in the cast)...but those come to mind rather quickly.

**Edit** Just went back & placed a couple of more orders...noticed that prices keep rising & discounts keep falling. In addition to the disappearance of the 40% items from the sale, several other bestsellers have gone from 30% off to 20% off. If you plan to order anything vaguely popular, now's the time to do it. By tomorrow, 10% may be the maximum discount for the newer, faster-selling items.

I was waiting for my B&N cc to get the extra 5% and all 3 items I was going to order went to 5% off.
