X-Files Ultimate Collection searching lowest price, $231?

FoxStore releasing new set of all x-file episodes on Dec 6, 2007 for $263.
So far lowest price I've found, $231, free ship at: http://www.amazon.com/X-Files-Ultima...6930574&sr=1-1
If you find lower, email me.
thanks, johneangel

i've personally never purchased a large "complete set" like this before and i was wondering...don't you get a lot of discs that are scratched or "floaters"? just seems like the odds aren't in your favor to ever get this set in good condition.

it doesn't have it listed yet, but keep looking at www.familyvideo.com ... I find that they usually have boxsets for much cheaper than other places...

Thats what happened with the Alias complete set. Scratched and finger printed (they were like greese).

If your looking to buy, i'd go with someone who has a easy return policy. Where you can get your hand on 2 sets at the same time and can pick from both.

With the retail price at $330, I suspect some B&M stores will have the set on sale for under $200, possibly as low as $165, just a quess.

I'd expect to see this for $199.99 on release day in stores, but probably not much cheaper. with 60 odd-discs this sets has to be costing stores atleast $80 a pop.

Boy are you misinformed. If you find this set for $200 bucks grab it because that is probably within 5% of what Amazon pays for it. If only DVD retailers made the kind of money consumers thought.

What I meant to say is that the sets would probably cost somewhere in the ballpark of $80 (possibly a tiny bit less) to produce when you consider that the DVDs themselves I think average $1 each...

On a different topic though I don't see myself picking up this set. I only own seasons 1-2, but with the individual seasons going for $15-20 and the movie around $6, it will be much cheaper to go that route.

Probably cheaper than that, but I think anyone that knows the DVD industry will tell you that cost of production has nothing to do with the final retail. The studios are the ones making all the jack.

I would think Amazon gets much better discounts than a typical video store as they buy in bulk. If you're a typical video store I'd agree, you would make little profit, but with Amazon, I'd imagine they can leverage a hell of an order to make a pretty good profit, even if it goes on sale.

There is still a bottom on how low they get it. They more than likely pay the same price as the major distributors but get marketing funds. Most sellers are going to know within a small % of what the distributors pay because the distributors all work on a cost plus agreement.

The thought process that retailers are getting rich on dvd is why everyone who thinks they can make their fortunes on ebay are totally shocked when they set up an account and get their pricing. Their cost on new release is going to be about what Wal-Mart retails it for. I am referring to the regular price, not the first week where they sell it dirt cheap.
