All store exclusives and freebies - 9/23/07 to 9/29/07
These weekly threads are for the posting and discussion of that particular week's store exclusives and freebies.
These lists will likely be incomplete until Thursday or so, since DVDs are released on Tuesday and one of us needs to visit all the stores to confirm things. Links to the master list and to the previous and next week's thread are below. Volunteers needed: I regularly go to Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, and Walmart; but don't visit the other stores every week. If you work at or regularly go to the FYE/TWEC chains, Costco, Borders, K-mart/Sears, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster, Hot Topic, or any other store that has DVD exclusives; I'd appreciate any updates you could give us. I work at Best Buy. The cards appear to have the "Ben" poster on the back...and that's it. Pretty lame if you ask me, at least the Smokin' Aces cards had a few variations.

I read on another forum that the Target Exclusive Edition of My Name is Earl Season 2 comes with 3-D packaging and includes a poster.

Should the new Disney Cars + Ultimate Ride bonus DVD be mentioned here as it scheduled for release on Sept 25? Even through I saw it out on the 22nd..
Info and pics posted by The Valeyard. Later |
Yep, thanks Johnsun!

Is the scratch and sniff really an exclusive? I work at a Blockbuster, and we get to rent items early. I rented My Name is Earl, and on the last disc it prompted me for the card, so I'd assume it's a widespread retail thing. If not, well, I guess the deal is during certain scenes of one episode, you scratch part of the card when something flashed on screen, most likely whatever was a part of that scene (food I remember being involved in one scene).
Anyone, for Blockbuster: Next comes with a 5 dollar giftcard. Knocked Up you can buy 40 Year Old Virgin for 10 bucks. I'm fairly sure it's the first edition DVD, and not the second. |
^thanks for the blockbuster report. saved me a trip.
i'll check walmart in the morning for knocked up and report back. not feeling these other exclusives... |
I just got back from Target this morning. The My Name is Earl set does come with a poster with the "Earl" gang in a police lineup. The poster size is roughly 16X11. The 3-D/lenticular cover features the claymation version of the regular DVD cover.

walmart has 2-disc knocked up for $23. no exclusive on the 2-disc. but they do have the 1-disc bundled w/ accepted for $20.
i also saw the new cars bundle for $20. YMMV since it's walmart. |

I bought Knocked Up at Suncoast for the free T-shirt. It's a white shirt with few words on the front in red lettering (I forgot what it says. I think it was "Have you been knocked up?" It really isn't all that exciting. I thought it would be better... Still, free is free!
|
I only went in/out quickly from Target, but I believe all the "Earl" sets were the limited edition sets. There were no sets without the 3D cover/poster.

It looks like the coasters at CC are single disc only. I bought the 2 disc they said they thought they were inside. Opened it, no coasters wanted to return it. They went looking for coasters 10 min later they came out with the 1-disc and asked if I wanted an exchange. No thanks I wanted the 2-disc, and they wouldn't except a return since I opened it. 30 minutes of my life wasted. Didn't want to raise hell over damn coasters. |

No, that's the Target by my house. I went to one by my work, in Santa Ana. Now I'm wondering if maybe they're just referring to the slip-cover that opens to photos as the "booklet" - if so, LAME. I haven't seen it at another store, so I don't know if all the slip-covers are the same.

Don't ever buy anything at Target expecting a "bonus" item if there isn't anything on the packaging itself stating it's in there. Well, that goes for everywhere. Target is just the worst because they actually put those little labels on the display advertising the exclusives. I've never been sure how they get away with that. I noticed that none of the copies of "Knocked Up" had any indication there was a booklet at the Target I was at today. I checked two different Targets last week for the Brothers and Sisters bonus disc and neither had any, but they had that label stating it was included. Anyone that didn't know better would just trust their in-store advertisement and be in for a surprise... |

So has anyone bought this from Target and actually got a booklet? |
Montclair CA Target - Went in, all the deluxe editions of Knocked Up looked the same, so I figured there was a book inside. No book. Took it back and they opened 2 more, and no books. Paid by check, wanted the entire transaction voided. Took them an hour to do so. I guess I'll have to go to Best Buy, but I'd rather find a Target in the local area that has the booklet because the 5 off 25 coupon helps out with the price as well.
I hope there's a Target nearby that has the editions with the booklets... |

Picked up Knocked Up from Target. Nothing on the cover stating there was a booklet, but I haven't opened it yet.
Picked up the Summerslam 2007 tin from FYE. It was on sale for $19.99. I also picked up the Hogan Knows Best Exclusive box set for $39.99. Anyone who works in a Blockbuster get in the Summerslam 2007 for sale (w/ exclusive bonus disc)? |
I went to the Tustin, CA Target and none of the Knocked Up slip cases had a label stating there was a booklet so I didn't bother.
|
Seems like Target screwed the pooch on this one - and we're the pooch. I mean, I probably would've gone to Best Buy (I have a gift-card), if it wasn't for this "freebie" at Target. So they basically got a few sales (I also got the new Foo Fighters) out of their boldfaced lie that they'd have a store-exclusive. Fuckers!

At Costco, buy Knocked Up: 2-Disc Unrated (mine had it for $21.59) and save $6 instantly when you also buy a selection of other titles. One's I saw/remember were: Parenthood (SE), 40 Year Old Virgin (Unrated) and The Break Up. I went for Parenthood. Those were $12.99 so it takes it down to $6.99. Not a great deal perhaps, but if you don't own those titles, might be worth it.
