He was told it is legit, for now.

About an hour later support called us to say franchise only.

I was able to get 5 ps3 games though.
Is there any way to see which stores are frachise?

(Dayton OH)

Store Manager got a good laugh - said 'this is a fake going around' scanned it and got an 'invalid barcode' message. He went on laughing to show his co-workers as I left the store. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. Glad I went to a store near where I work and not the one I go to near my house. I had a feeling it was fake - but oh well. On the CAG thread - this is what all the last posts have been about. Looks like I'm a day late on this one.

I went to several stores here in Orlando and couldn't find five games worth getting, even with a friend. However, at the third and final GameRush, we settled for five games. There's not a whole lot out that I really need or want, and didn't want to buy things just for the sake of buying them.

Stranglehold (Collector's)
Stuntman: Ignition
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Bioshock (for trade-in fodder)
Lair (for trade-in fodder)

The clerk freaked out when he saw what a good deal it was, and actually asked if I had another one that he could use. I think I heard them saying that they weren't going to let anyone else use one there, probably meaning they'll call up their DM to see if it is legit.

Well, I guess I can sit this one out then. If you're looking to unload Lair cheaply I'll take it.

It is obviously YMMV, but not legit in either case I would guess.

YMMV. If Blockbuster isn't out of your way, give it a shot.

There are other stores here in the area that I didn't get around to checking yet. The one I went to had at least a dozen Bioshocks, as well as a good selection of other stuff (corner of Chickasaw & Curry Ford). The one on Semoran north of Aloma had a decent selection, and the one over at Alafaya and Colonial really didn't have jack as far as 360 is concerned. I don't even own a PS3, so didn't check their section at the other stores.

Damn, I thought this could rock...then I realized I was getting excited over buying ruined games for about $5 a hit. I guess I could try, but I'm not sure. I have to head over there to get that Saw Trilogy for ubercheap, so I guess it couldn't hurt to look.

Not all BB have ruined games. I've gotten quite a few pristine games from them. My local stores actually don't a game for trading if it's too scratched up and I believe they buff the discs that were rentals prior to sale.

In any case, it appears the deal may be dead. The folks over at CAG are now reporting that corporate changed the expiration date to yesterday and also sent out an e-mail saying not to accept the coupon.

I was able to use it, but even told the manager that I wasn't sure if it was legit. But since the system took it, they went ahead with the deal.

Kind of strange. I guess that coupon must have been created by someone who works in BB. Otherwise, how would the system have taken it?

I hate to say this, but it's quite cool that the bar code works. I wonder if there's some secret coupon underground that does this thing for a laugh.

I don't want to go anywhere near something that just might have fraud linked to it.

I've done some barcode programming for a client of the company I work for. They use it to scan in forms that they get in the mail. Learning about all the formats and how they are generated was pretty cool. I would never do anything fraudulent, but if you know what format a company uses for their coupons (ie what each column means what) it really isn't that complicated.

I'd like to see the original to compare and not one that's had work done to it by the OP

Does this have to be used at a Blockbuster with Gamerush? I've never understood the whole franchise vs corporate thing with these stores.

Just tried it in MA, and it didn't work. The girl kept looking at the coupon, really confused, scanned the movies/games, and then typed in the barcode, before calling over another employee. Corporate must have put in a note, and the computer said the coupon expired yesterday. I didn't put up too much fuss, just pointed out that the coupon clearly states it expires the 31st, but he just said he has to go by what the computer says.

No luck in Madison...first store had a good selection, and as I went to checkout the lady kindly told me the coupon was a fraud and she had JUST received a voice mail saying not to take it. Honestly about 2 minutes late.

So I hit another store that was on my way, and they had crap for games, so I didn't even bother asking if they'd take it.

I didn't realize BB had franchise stores. I'm guessing if this was in any way legit, it was just for 1 particular franchise store that was going out of business or something.

Maybe you got in just under the cut-off....or did they do anything manual to override? As people are saying, they are saying corporate expired the coupon and e-mails went out saying it was fraudulent. CAG has more info.

Yeah, I'm always up for great deals, but even I didn't touch this coupon. It was obviously some sort of fraudulent deal, and I don't want any part of that.

If it was something that BBV printed up, yet made an error on it, I'd use it, but not if it came from outside the company. That just feels a bit, ummm, like fraud I guess.
