I work in IT Security and, let me tell you, many companies who use junk like this don't even understand the ramifications of their actions. Do you remember "Gator"? Many well meaning companies hitched their wagons to Gator and suffered a huge PR hit because of it. Gator was NASTY. COUPONPRINTER.EXE is also nasty...

And contribute to companies possibly offering fewer and fewer coupons.
So be it... If they had intended for people to actually use the coupons, then they would have inserted them in the Sunday newspaper or made them available to print online. This BS about needing the software to render the bar code is nonsense. I have printed plenty of coupons with unique serial numbers online and not once have I been asked to install malware.

Congrats on your $10 savings. Personally, I would not sell my soul for $10.

Yeah, that was nasty stuff.

I agree and would rather they distribute real paper coupons and/or allow web printing. But that leads to more coupon abuse, and a program that monitors how many are printed per unique machine is a tool the companies use to protect themselves.

Slight exaggeration I think.

I'll only say one more thing on this topic... Before you agree to install couponprinter.exe, at least read the following article:

I just un-installed couponprinter and am now running malwarebytes. Will look to see if there's any "residue".

more DA

Spoilering my last off topic post. Not trying to be overly confrontational, just a devil's advocate mainly.
Spoiler:

# Installing with deceptive filenames and registry entries that hinder users' efforts to fully remove Coupons' software.
Doesn't almost every program?
# Failing to remove all Coupons.com components upon a user's specific request.
Again, does any Windows program have a truly clean uninstall?
# Assigning each user an ID number, and placing this ID onto each printed coupon, without any meaningful disclosure.
Is this really that bad?
# Allowing third-party web sites to retrieve users' ID numbers, in violation of Coupons.com's privacy policy.
Why do we care if anybody has our coupons.com generated user id number? They aren't getting the data from my computer, just the randomly generated number.
# Allowing any person to check whether a given user has printed a given coupon, in violation of Coupons.com's privacy policy.
So?

On topic, I'm glad that Disney is continuing to include a SD copy in their blu ray releases. This makes car/work/friend's house playback much easier.

Why would a Coupon Printer be dangerous? I don't understand... even after reading what is being discussed. And I think it's more than a slight exaggeration to say we sold our souls for a $10 off coupon. That seems HIGHLY exaggerated.

couldn't get the coupon program to work. Printed out a copy of the .jpg file that was provided earlier in the topic. Printed out the page you go to before clicking the $10 off link, stapled them together, brought them to Wal-Mart, and there was no problem getting the ten bucks off the Blu-Ray. Thank you OP.

Absolutely, to say that people would sell their souls for a $10 coupon was an exaggeration. However, I was just making a point that people, in the name of a $10 coupon, are willing to download a strange executable file from a company of questionable moral values (coupons.com) and run it. That is a serious no-no if you care anything about your computer and the safety of your personal information, including passwords, credit card numbers, and other private information.

As for why it's a big deal, did you read the article that I linked above? That article examines in depth exactly what couponprinter.exe does to your computer. Adware and malware programs are a serious threat and a huge money maker for the people who write them. They embed themselves into your system and, short of a complete format and reinstall of your OS, you will not be able to remove them. The designers of malware have a monetary interest in making sure that you 1) don't know that their software is doing harm, and 2) you cannot remove it even if you discover it on your system.

Am I saying that couponprinter.exe is the next Gator? No. However, its actions are very suspicious. It behaves in the same way as malware, spyware, adware, rootkits, etc. It even triggers alerts in malware detection software.

My posts here are not because I have a hidden agenda against coupons.com. Instead, my posts are intended to warn people to be careful about downloading strange .exe files and running them in the name of a $10 reward. Believe me, I have been thinking all day about a way to safely get a copy of the $10 coupon. However, I simply will not take the risk of infecting my computer or my network for $10.

Do what you want... If the coupon works for you, then enjoy the $10 discount. I just wish that Disney had not hitched their wagon to this questionable company.

Dangerous! Stay away...
It worked just fine in a virtual machine. No problems at all.

The real problem is people putting out spyware, virus, etc... under the same executable name.

Well, I just read the whole article. I don't know what to think. But, alas, I've already printed out the coupon and I still plan to use it. It certainly does sound like some of their practices are a bit... weird. But I'm not sure if I see how it would negatively impact us... Hmm....

Someone help prevent my brain from exploding.

Question, if you print this off, how does Target (or Walmart or TRU) scan the coupon to deduct $10.00? There is no barcode or number to punch in.

Depending on the retailer, most registers have a function to adjust prices by wrong retail price, $ off or % off.

$ off will give an option for the employee to choose "Manufacturer's Coupon", then pop the coupon into the register till.

Interesting read about the coupon printer. I've installed that coupon printer on a different computer before but never knew it did those sort of things. I'm assuming there isn't a way to host a .jpg of the coupon.

I just used it as Wal-Mart, and she just ran the coupon over the scanner, and it took the $5 off. She didn't have to overwrite anything or hit any extra keys and all that.

I printed both the $10 and $5 coupon and mine had barcodes. I got mine from a link on another site though.

Also for those planning on buying the Blu-ray when it comes out, the Ronzoni rebate doesn't start until March 24th so if you buy it tomorrow or Monday it won't qualify for that rebate.

i don't have a bluray player but plan on upgrading my system by the end of the year so would the BR version be the best for me to get? i read reviews that the reg dvd version in the br set is just the 1-disc version without all the extras--can anyone confirm?

Re: Disney Bolt coupon $5 for dvd $10 for blu

The DVD probably doesn't include the bonus materials -- just the film. But the Blu-ray will have all the features so if you upgrade to High Definition soon then definitely go for the Blu-ray release. You will NOT want the Standard Definition DVD if you do upgrade your system... Trust me on that one. Then it will only be a matter of time before you try and upgrade this film to the Blu-ray. I didn't think I'd ever do that myself and I have wound up upgrading lots of titles, and pretty much all of the CGI animated ones that I had previously owned on DVD.

thanks....read up a little more on it and apparently the reg dvd that comes w/ the br will have the movie + the Super Rhino short which is all my daughter cares about at this point so the BR definitly seems the way to go

What site did you get your coupon from?

I used the link above. Just printed the page, and there is no barcode or number.

Is anyone going to post or paste the coupon for BOLT on BLU-RAY? I can't seem to get any of the links to work...I have never heard of installing a coupon program just to print a coupon....

Re: Disney Bolt coupon $5 for dvd $10 for blu

Thanks Musick, for the TRU heads up!

Using the online TRU shopping cart (before heading to the store) - one can get the BD Bolt for $14.99 and Lilo and Stitch for $19.99 after the combined "Purchase Bolt and any other Disney DVD $19.99 or higher, get $10 off promotion" - and probably use the coupon for $10 off Bolt BD too - final price would be $4.99 for BD.

Lets see on Tuesday if it works!
