Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

I wasn't going to pick up GCB, but at those prices I might as well get all 3

Great Deal Best Buy!!!
Just got back from my BB who knew nothing about the promotion. They did not ring up that way nor was there any signage indicating the discounts. The website does not give you the discount either, so maybe it's local or hasn't started nationwide.

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

Just got back from my BB with GCB, Scandal, and Missing all for ~$18. My store didn;t have any signs up for the discount when you buy more than one, but when the cashier rang them up, the discount was applied. Pretty awesome deals to be had.

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

Grabbed all 3 at Sherman Oaks today. No signs about the extra savings, but after the cashier scanned all 3 a screen popped up about the promotion so she just hit apply. Not sure if the coupons scan or not because she just took them all and entered them manually without even trying. Great deal, thanks for the heads up!

Grabbed all 3 for 18 and change total in Minnesota. Did see a sign for the deal but forgot to check the end date.

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

Never heard of Scandal. But based on the savings, it makes sense to get all 3. Thanks for the tip, Kyle!

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

I was only interested in GCB but had an unpleasant experience.

The cashier grabbed my coupon and said, "Oh, I have to go check this out, there are a lot of fakes floating around," and he disappeared for 10 minutes!! Left me standing at the cash register. Now, this was not a problem for the store because there were 3 cashiers on duty and only one person buying something (me). After some time had gone by, I started to feel like I was being treated like a criminal when their own sale paper had printed where to go for the coupon! Then when he came back he applied the sales tax to the $19.99 price before taking off the coupon, so I had to pay double sales tax.

Yeah, this store will be gone soon.

Funny, I was actually thinking of buying a new computer from them, but not now.

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

I had a similar experience as Barbybrant. The Assistant Manager actually accused me of "Taking advantage of the system" when I tried to combine all three coupons w/ the discount and he didn't believe me that the coupons were valid, eventhough they were in the add. I had to show him on my phone how the link from their add sends you to those coupons, and then he was telling me I had to choose between the store discount or the coupons. It wasn't until I spoke the actual manager I was able to get the discount.

I think I'm officially done with best buy...

Taking advantage of the system? LOL

The store gets re-imbursed by Disney for the coupons. He was just mad that you didn't buy a refridgerator.

That's the way most stores handle coupons, including Target. I suppose this could vary by state based on their laws, but the general rule is:
Unless it is a store coupon (ie, a Target store coupon, or a Best Buy store coupon) which basically alters the item price because they are not getting reimbursed for the coupon, you are supposed to pay tax on the before coupon price. Target coupons will literally lower the item price because they are not getting reimbursed. Best Buy RZ certs similarly lower the item price. In those cases, tax is off of the final price.

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

My BB had 2 copies of GCB left, but only 1 copy of Scandal and Missing left. Used a $15 RZ cert with the 3 $10 coupons, so only paid $1.50 out of pocket for the tax. W00T!

And Best Buy wonders why they're having as much trouble as they are hanging onto customers and keeping stores open. I'd report that store to corporate and have that person fired for accusing you of doing such a thing!

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

I've had similar issues in the past with my Best Buy--saying that I can't use a manufacturer's coupon with a sale price because it would be "combining offers". That's why I'm glad they've been mentioning the coupons in the ad--since then haven't had an issue. Though last week, they gave me a hard time about price matching target's price on John Carter. It said $25 and then in another box "Save $8 if you purchase another Disney movie". They made me wait 10 minutes while they called target to see if that meant the $25 was after the $8 savings or not. To me it was perfectly clear that it was a separate deal.

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

Picked up all 3 today for $4.99 each after the coupons and the bonus $15 off discount for buying all 3 with no problems at all.

I guess it just depends who you get as a cashier and whether or not they choose to be a dick about it.

Now here's the question for all of you, are any of you even going to watch these? I know most of the posters here in the Bargains forums are horrendously backed up on their materials they bought. I watched Scandal and Missing this past season on ABC and both were good. Scandal actually got renewed for a 2nd season and it's a pretty compelling political thriller. I guess they are selling it dirt cheap because it's only 7 episodes. Missing was cancelled unfortunately, but for the most part it's a good 10 episode action series.

Didn't have time to watch GCB. I watched 2 episodes and stopped. But for $4.99, I think it's worth it to have for slow periods with nothing on.

Barbybrant and critterdvd, you've experienced what I experienced countless times over years past at my local BB stores... my closest store in particular. Further away stores were slightly better but still did the same thing. They've gotten slightly better but my success rate now is no better than 50% (in previous years my success rate with coupons was about 5-10%). Not only have I been told many times in years past (including by the same store manager who I guess will always be manager there until he dies of old age) that a mfg. coupon can't be combined with a sale price because a sale price is an "offer", but a few times I also got the "you're trying to take advantage of the system" or "double dipping" excuse. Every time this happened I just went to Target and got the same deal that BB refused to give me usually with little or no hassle. And people wonder why I just go straight to Target every time I can unless the deal is BB only and cannot be done at Target. It's why I refer to them as "BB" as I refuse to put the word Best in the name of their store. Now when they have deals without coupons involved (or the coupon deal is listed in the ad), I rarely have any trouble with BB... except them being OOS or not carrying what I want a lot.

Yet all of those stores are still in business and probably always will be. I haven't tried this particular deal (nor printed the coupons). When I go by the store next, I might try the deal but I always keep my expectations low. I suppose BB is probably OOS of at least 1 or 2 of the 3. I'd just do the deal at Target except the deal isn't in BB's ad (that I could see). I wish BB could change their name to "YMMV Electronics Deals" as that would be the most appropriate.

I must've had a clueless cashier. They have to total the transaction before the promotions come up. Anyway, 18.xx out the door for all 3. Never would have considered them otherwise.

That figures. Scandal was the one I planned to get rid of. I planned on watching GCB and Missing. I knew GCB was canceled, but didn't realize Missing had as well. I want to say I'll watch it, but my backlog is bigger than many of yours combined. I do hope to at least get to GCB... someday. :P

Did anyone confirm if the $10 coupons for the fall titles are inside of these releases?

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

^^ Yes, I got the coupons in all 3 packages.

Going to save them for when the other ABC shows go on discount.

Not bigger than mine

I was just the opposite, Scandal seemed more intriguing than the other 2. But for the price I bought them anyway. This is from a person who bought Alf, knowing I probably didn't like it. Some people collect Criterions, I like having a big backlog to TV series to watch.

I dunno, I think I can take you! :P As for Alf, I own every season! Haven't opened them, of course, but I got em!
HA! (in the voice of Alf)

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

Got all three for $17.89 so little more then $5.96 a set. Plus now am ready with coupons for the sets that will probably be more expensive.

To get still
ABC showlist for 2012
1. Desperate Housewives: Season 8 final season (complete series box)
2. Private Practice 5
3. Grey’s Anatomy 8
4. Castle: 4
5. Revenge 1
Maybes
Body Of Proof: Season 2

Going to buy Complete Series of Desperate Housewives so need to get rid of the individual seasons

Re: ABC Television on DVD Deals?

I was successful getting all 3 at my nearest BB with the $15 off and 3 coupons. I was already at the mall so if they said no (as I expected) it wouldn't have been a waste of gas, but the cashier I got (the only one there and probably a new hire) apparently hadn't been indoctrinated by the manager yet about his no mfg. coupons allowed on sale items policy (because a sale price is an offer which cannot be combined). It seems my success rate at BB with coupons is improving, but the probability of success will probably never get beyond 50% each time I try at BB-YMMV. Contrast that to Target where the success rate is at least 90% provided the deal is in the ad.

I had never even heard of these 3 series and would've skipped them, but when I saw the posts about this unadvertised combo deal making each one $6-ish + tax I figured what the heck... now I have 3 more sets to put on my shelf to collect dust for several years.

Well, I suppose I should open them sooner because apparently each set has another $10 coupon inside which may be handy in the future. When do those coupons inside expire?

Do the $10 off coupons list which titles they are eligible for?

The list was posted in post 34 http://forum.dvdtalk.com/11244691-post34.html

The Scandal coupon is up on the abctvondvdcoupon.com site
