The potential market is a fraction of the size of a typical Hollywood movie, limiting the ability of a company like Funimation to lower prices and still make money. It also has to do with the vagaries of the Japanese home video market, where media is priced much differently than in America. The Japanese companies who license the content to American companies are rightly afraid of reverse importation.
