Regarding the DVD player, if you're looking for a player with the video quality of the Panasonic RP-82, but one that can also play multi-region discs (regions 2 and 4 are PAL instead of NTSC, and while you could buy a RP-82 code-free, it can't convert PAL), take a look at the Philips 963SA. It's a bit more expensive at around $400, but it's one of the best players on the market right now. It can be easily "hacked" using the remote to code-free and to play PAL progressives. There's a lengthy discussion about it in the DVD Hardware section at avsforum.com. Also, the best site to find out about DVD players is http://www.hometheaterhifi.com. Click on the DVD player shootout link for more info. Good luck!

I wish I could stretch it another $1k. :-) Closing costs come this Friday for the new house. That's gonna shrink my bank account significantly.

Thanks for the link Zeitgeistsfo.
I'll check it out. $400 is a bit more then I want to spend for a DVD player though. But wouldn't hurt to see what else is out there. Still considering the Malata...but everything is still up in the air.

I have had my Mitsu 55511 which has an intergrated tuner for about 2 months. I love this tv. It is right in your price range and you really cant find a 55" with an HDTV tuner built in for this price. All of this may not matter if you dont have many channels that broadcast OTA in the area you are moving. Check out Antennaweb.org and find out.

I really cant say enough good things about my tv. I wouldnt go the route of best buy though. Find a Local dealer, they will know 10 times more than the teenager working at best buy..... WHATEVER YOU DO>...... DO NOT BUY A FLOOR MODEL... no matter what kind of discount or break they are offering. The floor models usually run 8-10 hours a day in torch mode.

I was about to start a similar thread but I don't know what my spending budget will be. I have an investment that is supposed to ripen in december january.

First of all congrats NoirTech on you new home. Have fun at the closing.

My closing is on April 2.

we are so happy.

I am sure there will be tons of changes in technology and in pricing.

I gotta get my ducks in line. Good luck with your purchase noirtech.

I did this a little over a year ago. See my sig for my setup.

If I had to do it again I'd get a projector instead since I really don't watch much TV, only DVDs. panasonic AE-300 and a decent screen would be my choice plus a nice clean install job. 100 inches, baby!

Quick update. Just came back from my new Home closing. Holy crap. That was a LOT of paper work. Will be making some updates to pictures soon enough. Now, time to move some boxes over to the new place. Good thing I have a full month to move. :-)
