"Microplex"- My Bedroom Turned Home Theater!

Very nice. There is a massive difference in the before and after pictures, with the after much cleaner and more sophisticated. Good idea on angling the tv in there. When I had a tv in the bedroom, I had the same trouble you did.

Hello All!
Well since these pictures were taken I have probably purchased over 200-300 more dvds. Guess what? I am out of room on the shelves. As you can see, I have a very small room as it is, so what do you guys recommend for showing off any additional that I buy? (I buy several a week)
I could store them in my closet but I really like being able to show them off.
Thanks,
Shane!

Maybe have some shelves going higher up the wall on one side of the room? Nice setup. I'm going to buy a 42" Panasonic Plasma within the next few days.

Hello guys!
I found a solution to my storage problem. I decided to just try and find another matching shelf and upon looking, I found out that Best Buy still carries the item. I purchased a fourth one and just put it up yesterday. Although in the pictures it looks like I have a lot of free space now, I am sure it will be full again in a couple months. After that, I don’t know what the hell I’m going to do.
Here is a picture I took yesterday:
And I am sure none of you care, but here’s how I organized them (note that each section is alphabetized):
For those of you that asked about what shelving it was, here is the link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1077624680370 Nothing fancy, but sturdy, easy to put together, and they look great in uniform.
I also just finished cataloging my collection with dvdspot: http://www.dvdspot.com/member=davethomasowns
Thanks for the comments!

Thanks! I actually just made those signs. I found the graphics online, printed them at WalMart and put in basic black frames. Made all 3 for $10. They look pretty nice.

Looks clean good job. Nice TV. I have the same one only 50". I think you should mount your center speaker under the tv.
I think I saw your pic in another thread. "post pics of your HT and dvd collection" maybe?

Nice setup and renovation! The sconces kick ass. I might have to track down something similar for my HT.

Thanks guys! Sorry it took so long to respond, didn't realize people still look at my setup.
Well, I have obviously bought more DVDs and HD-DVDs since then, so when I get a chance I will take another picture of the collection. As far as the shelving goes, I got them from Best Buy (I provided the link earlier in this thread) and the lights I got on the auction site for like $40 if I remember correctly.
Well, I am about to give in and go format neutral. There are just too many discs being released on Blu-Ray that my girlfriend and I want. Whenever I get my scholarship refund in a couple weeks I am going to get a 60gb PS3 before they run out, and I am sure about 10 discs to jumpstart the collection.
Since I am doing this, I have another problem though. I obviously need to purchase an HDMI switcher, but I have no idea where to put the PS3 hardware. I guess I could put it on the very top of the shelve but then what about my center speaker? Anybody know of a way to mount the center right under my display?
Thanks again for all the comments!

Hello all!
I decided to post 2 new pictures of my room.
Here's an updated picture of my DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray collection.
Quick picture of my component rack now full. I added the Samsung recorder to record some TV shows, the Phillips to play my divx and region 2 discs, and the PS3 so that I could become format neutral. Also added a terk HDMI switch (on the left, you probably can't see)
And JZ thanks for the tip. Where I work (best buy) carries some speaker mounts that I get like 80% off, but since I have that wide cordmate down the center of the wall, I can't put the mount there.
Thanks!
Shane

You have a nice home theater set-up for a kid. It is easy to say "you should have gotten a 50" plasma" but 7 months ago the 42" cost more than a 50" today. You have a good looking girlfriend. But do you really need all those DVD's? Are you spending all your money on DVD's? Check out netflix or blockbuster. $20 a month for all you can rent will save money in the long run.

Hey, thanks for the comments guys!
Jason1, I got the 42" because I got an awesome deal on it. Nothing could beat it, even now. I waited out on Black Friday at Best Buy (where I work,) and paid $999 for it. Then with an employee accommodation I received a $400 mail-in rebate.
So $600 for the 42" panny was an awesome deal. My Mom just paid that much for a Westinghouse 32" LCD...
As far as my DVD collection... Well, it's my addiction. Some people collect/play video games, some people spend their money doing cocaine, I spend all of my money on DVDs. I don't rent or anything because I like collecting them. I am sure that once I get my degree and actual bills, things will change (probably just buy more since I will make more haha,) but in the meantime it is what gets us by. We enjoy collecting them.

I should see if Best Buy is hiring part time help for the holidays. I wonder how much the 60" Pioneer 1080p plasma is with employee discount?
Do they give a good discount on DVD's and HD-DVD's?
This might not be a bad part time.

Well just hit 1,400 DVDs... 66 HD-DVDs, and 30 BRs. Here's an updated picture. I am almost out of room!
Also, here's an updated picture of the equipment. Last week I took you all's advice and lowered the T.V. almost 2 feet. The picture is really crappy but here you go.
Thanks!
Shane
