I have the feeling that this has been asked quite a bit and I'm just using the wrong terms to search for it, but I was wondering what are generally accepted as the best times to purchase a new TV? I've heard before the Super Bowl, after the Super Bowl, before Christmas, after Christmas, the month before the new models come out, the month after the new models come out (in this case, it would probably help to know when the new models come out ), etc. and was wondering what your experience tells you is the best time?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and I apologize for asking what seems to be a question that could be easily answered with a properly-worded search.

When you need a new TV.

If you are looking for a good deal, they are always going on. But you can't wait forever for a deal. Get the thing and enjoy it.

I bought a LG 37" LCD HDTV not even 2 months ago for 1399 and it has been brought down to 1259. If you're looking at a TV that is still being sold for regular price wait a little longer and it will eventually come down. Or you can wait for Black Friday and get one

Does anyone ever really need a new TV?

I should update my wording and instead ask, when are TVs (or projectors, which I'm now leaning towards) likely to have their lowest price in a given season? Two months after buying my last TV, it dropped in price by something like $300 (from around $1200 to around $900, so that's a significant percentage). In those two months, I'd say I got $300 worth of enjoyment out of it, but it still stings a bit to see something like that. The other matter is, I like the idea of having a goal of when I'm going to buy something of this size... makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something rather than just wasting money on something I don't need.

If you want last year's models, May/June seems to be a good time to buy the stragglers (unless the online vendors slash the hell out of the price and people jump on the deal).

If you want current year models, I suspect Black Friday through Christmas is a good time to be shopping, as well as the week before Super Bowl Sunday.

Well you could play that game forever. Waiting and waiting.

I'd do some research, set your budget and when it gets to your budget, go for it. And relax about things dropping in price. It will happen. Or a better model for the same price will come out. I will happen.

As for projectors they don't quite go on sale as much, but some. And you can find a coupon now and again.

Pretty much anytime. But it does depend on how you work the rebates, warranty specials, in store specials, etc. If you know what television to purchase, this narrows down your search a lot. So, find a television you have your heart set on, and then follow the prices on it from now on till the rest of the year.

When the one you are using breaks?

Currently rite now I have a 32'' RCA CRT TV in the living room, 2 13" CRT TVs in the bedrooms (mine & grandmothers) & 1 27" CRT TV upstairs. I'm happy with what I got. I have a Sony HTS 1 Disc DVD player in the living room (or "My DVD place") too watch everything loudly & I'm not in a hurry to go out & buy a fancy new television because I spend most of my money on the good ole' DVDs.
CRT TVs have better picture than most LCD TVs in my opinion & I'm not spending $2000 on a plasma or a DLP so until my (still quite new) CRT TVs blow up in my face, I'm stickin' with what I got ya' see.

I'll give you my 20 year old wooden style RCA Tube TV in my basement which I rarely use if you want?

Speaking of which...if you buy a tv prior to black Friday and then it is one that ends up being on sale (and I mean one of those terrific deals), I assume the store cannot decline to give you a price match?

Which begs the question, why not buy the tv prior to black Friday to ensure you at least have it and you don't have to wait through the lines.

Sometimes the stores will have a price-match blackout for such occasions as Black Friday.

Sounds like HDTV prices might hit a floor soon or may even go up. Has anyone heard about the recent Supreme Court ruling to stop heavy retailer discounting and stick more to the MSRP?
