I'm sorry if this thread has been made before. My dad's bday is coming up and I want to get him a dvd player. Since I'm a starving student, I can only get one that is less than 200. I realize these are the crappiest kind but I was just wondering if you guys can give me advice on which is the creme de la creme of the crap. It will be hooked up to a 3 year old 35" trinitron normal tv. No sound system so that's not an issue. Pretty much just want one that doesnt have a lot of bugs. peace.

Look at that one, it's cheap. I'm thinking about telling my mom to get it for my dad for Christmas.

It hasn't arrived yet so I haven't tested it, but the Toshiba 1600 is under $180 at Mercata and 20% under that if you're a new customer.

BestBuy.com has free shipping on everything now. It's got the Toshiba 1200 and the Toshiba 1600 at the same price ($199). Which is better, does anyone know? Thanks!

I'm almost positive the 1600 is better.

I would go with the Pioneer dv-333. I own one and it has been an enjoyable experience. Its a great player for the price you pay. Pricegrabber.com has it for $216 shipped. Here's the link http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...asterid=343317

when you test it, can you reply to this thread, thanks.<HR>
Well, I got the Toshiba 1600 and only tried out The Fifth Element and a CD so far, but it looks really good. I'm very impressed with the quality of the picture and also the zoom -- much better than my Apex. The picture is comparable to my Sony 650D although the Toshiba does not have picture adjustment, only black level. The fast and slow speeds are really good too. So far it appears to be very much worth the
