Re: TCL Tv's

Does anyone have any thoughts about the 65R625? From what I have been reading and watching, the HDR can be very dark, but otherwise it seems to be a very good tv for the price

Re: TCL Tv's

I have the 55” version. It’s a great TV, especially for the price. HDR is great on it, as is Dolby Vision. You can do some pretty wide adjustments and brighten it quite a bit. TCL also has an app for iPhone and Android called IPQ Calibration. It’s a great tool to use and calibrates the TV very well. When I used it, I did one minor adjustment to brighten some SDR stuff.

TCL 55" 5-Series 4K UHD Dolby Vision HDR QLED ROKU Smart TV - 55S535

I ordered through Amazon and the first one and the replacement arrived with cracked screens. Are these particularly fragile, or are Amazon drivers being particularly rough in my area? Frustrating thing is the cracks are not apparent until the TV is powered on. At this point, Amazon's just refunding me instead of trying another replacement. For what it's worth, the boxes did not show undue wear or any obvious dents or punctures.

Re: TCL Tv's

Sounds like those may have happened when they packed it, especially if there’s light wear on the outside boxes.

FWIW, I bought 2 TV’s from Amazon, and I never had one issue with them.

This past year I have been reading many 1 star reviews for crack screens for Hisense & TCL Tvs. It doesn't matter if it's been shipped or picked up in store. Heck my Snl brought 32" tv from Walmart. Everything looked find out of the box. Her & my brother wall mounted it & the screen was cracked when they turned it on.

I was going to buy the same TV from Amazon but they won't even ship it to HI. They use to ship 55" or lower but not any more.

Re: TCL Tv's

UPDATE: After 2 broken ones via Amazon, I finally got an intact one delivered from Best Buy. Initial testings were a little unsettling at how 'video' everything looked - including Kurosawa's Dreams from Criterion. But once the TV was in it's proper place and I played around a little with the settings, things looked much better (think I activated the Natural Cinema). Looks fantastic in a dark room, but with any lights on, there is a little glare on the screen (something I never had to worry about with Plasma). Nice that I don't have to worry about burn-in images (though I never really had any long-term issues with any of my TV's...but then, I'm not a gamer). One confusing thing I found was the refresh rate on a review site stated 60herz, though the Amazon listing states 120herz (which was a big reason I zeroed in on this particular model - S535)... ---Peter

Re: TCL Tv's

You should also try the TCL app called iPQ Calibration (iOS and Android) that does some great testing and can tweak settings very well.

I'm not app literate so I'll have to wait until a friend of mine visits to do the calibration. Side note: I've actually been watching with the Natural Cinema mode switched off. --Peter

Re: TCL Tv's

If you use a smartphone with apps, all this app does is that you point it to a TV, then take about 6 pictures. It does the rest.

Re: TCL Tv's

I have a 55S401 & use the Roku Media Player to stream videos from my Windows 10 PC & the A/V is out of sync by around 1 second. Can't find a fix, anyone know a solution? Thanks.

Re: TCL Tv's

I just notice that TCL has raised the Msrp on 2020 5 & 6 series. I was thinking about buying the 65" or 55" 5 series model to replace a 4-series from 3 years ago. But prices have gone up by $100-$150.

Re: TCL Tv's

Wow, I wonder what's up with that? Especially since this years models are rolling out. I guess it could be a supply shortage.

Re: TCL Tv's

I saw Ellen give away two 65" TCLs yesterday.

Are they like Vizio or better off to spend the money on a Samsung, LG, or Sony?

Spend a little more and get a better TV.

I was hoping that the prices would drop a little fewer before the 2021 models come out. But looks like that is not going to happen. So I'll either wait for the 2021 5 or 6 series.
The 5 series will be like last years mini led 6 series. Or I might just buy the 2021 Hisense 65U8G model.

Re: TCL Tv's

If you mean one of those Toshiba Fire TV’s, then definitely go with a TCL. Best bang for the buck. Or spend a few more bucks and get a TCL 6 series.

Re: TCL Tv's

Yeah, I was looking at one of their Fire TVs. TCL 6 series is too large. I just need around a 43" for the bedroom.

The smallest size in the 5 series is 50".
