4K TV Recommendations

Hey everyone, I’m in the market for a new tv and am just wondering what people use or like. Currently I have a 51” Samsung plasma that’s around five or six years old (I believe) and is only 720p, so basically anything will be an upgrade.

Kind of would prefer to keep it within the $500-$600 price range. Looking for 4K and probably don’t want to go a lot bigger than 55” (maybe 60”). Not sure if I want a plasma again as mine has a bit of burn in, which I know plasmas are prone to. I’ve been looking a bit and it seems like TCL or Vizio come up a lot as decent choices. Just looking for any input.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

At that price, one of the TCLs would probably be the best. Just know that it's a decent tv but it's a decent tv for the budget. At 55 I'd think the 6 series is worth it but I'll let people chime in (I bought a 5 series because I was buying a smaller screen).

And I'm pretty sure all of the TCLs come with 4k Roku built in.

Do they even sell plasma TVs anymore?

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Since you've mentioned that you don't have a streaming device aside from a PS4, I would consider a 4K smart TV or one with Roku built in.

Here's one with Roku built in that's 55 inches and $530

Amazon Amazon

Here's one with Amazon Fire 4K built in and it's $450 and is 55 inches

I don't know how much you stream off Netflix or Prime video, but you'll be able to finally watch 4K content with these TVs.

With the Roku built in you can download DC Universe and be able to watch that channel in 4K as well.

Yeah, and honestly I’m not looking for the highest class tv or anything. I could spend more it’s just I find it sort of silly to when there seem to be a decent amount of options in the range I mentioned that I’m sure are fine for my needs. I guess I don’t keep up with tech all that much so I wasn’t even sure if plasmas are still around.

Yeah, I was thinking one with built-in smart functionality would be good. I don’t stream a ton, but it doesn’t hurt to have that option there already. I was looking at various TCL models and think I came across that one. My only thing is I don’t know much about them as a brand so I wasn’t sure how reliable they are and whatnot. They seem to be a popular option though.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

Personally I'm waiting on the Hisense 55H9F. It should start showing up online & in local stores like BB at the end of July.
It should be $699.99 or maybe a little lower. The 65H9F has been in stock a few weeks & is $899.99. It's getting great
reviews from the few that have brought one.

So I'll ask for the OP's sake, what's the difference between the 8F and 9F (which you said isn't out yet) models?

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

If you could bump the budget closer to $1000, I'd strongly recommend LG's line of OLEDs. You could probably find a 55" near that range.

The best value choice is TCL's 6 series. Which can regularly be found around $500, but expect to possibly deal with what people call the panel lottery for the TCLs. Out of the box, some of the panels just won't be that great and you'll have to return it.

Based on what you’re looking for, I’d highly recommended a Series 6 TCL. As per others recommendations, I’ve been reading great things about the Hisense, but I don’t have any personal experience with them. Vizio is also good, but I’ve had such a negative experience with 3 of them, I actually tell friends and family to shy away from them.

When is the best time to buy these days? In terms of getting them mark down as low as possible. Black Friday, cybermonday or those few weeks leading up to the Superbowl?

I think it's still right before the Super Bowl, Black Friday/Xmas, and when the new models come out.

I want that 75" TCL 6 series but would only want to spend $1,000 on it. Hope I'm not being too dreamy about it.

It's not quite cut and dried as it used to be - nowadays it depends on each manufacturer's business cycle and their success in the marketplace. Many people think LG will have to cut prices on their OLED line sooner or later since Samsung's QLED is starting to steal sales.

I was hoping I could pick one up for 1199, but 999 would be very nice indeed!

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

I might just wait it out until Black Friday and see if I can get something a bit better. The TCL's look nice for what they are but I don't want to be left feeling the need to upgrade for a while again. The QLED by Samsung or OLED by LG look nice. Not sure if I really want to drop over $1,000, but I've had my current tv quite a while and so the new one will likely be a long term investment.

I don't think Hisense is a quality brand so better off paying more for a Samsung or Sony

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

I'm looking for a decent 43" for a small bedroom. Does anyone own the Samsung LED 7 Series Model UN43RU7100FXZA?
I saw it at Best Buy and was wondering if anyone on the forum can vouch for it's quality. I would really like to know if digital content gets shadowy and dark. Thanks!

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

I bought my first 4K TV today! Nothing incredibly fancy, 65 inch Samsung from Costco. We are still going to need a second TV for the entertainment room, so I'm thinking we might get an OLED closer to Christmas if they are on sale. At least I can start playing some games in 4K and watching some of our UHDs.

Re: 4K TV Recommendations

4K is becoming very common on the streaming services - both Netflix and Amazon have a lot of 4K content.
