VEGGIETALES: Anyone seen these? (Blind Buy?)
I have two of these on order because, well, I was bored. Are these a good blind buy?

My kids love 'em and I enjoy 'em too (watching with them). I think they're absolutely fantastic. Teach good lessons without being heavyhanded, very funny, etc. That said, if you aren't a kid or don't have kids, I am not sure they'll be your first choice on a free night.

Agreed. My son is big into them, and that's fine. He sure as hell isn't gonna get any religious values from me!

Veggie Tales are very funny and creative. Even if you're not a Christian you should enjoy them. The Veggie Tales have a very strong Monty Python influence which is very evident and will keep older audiences as entertained, if not more, than younger ones.

Sounds like you got the standalone episodes, which are good... but even better is the Jonah movie. Listen to the commentary with "Larry the Cucumber" and "Mr. Lunt" (who are actually the VeggieTales creators)... I was rolling. They reference all these other directors like Spielberg and Lucas, they talk about Disney and Pixar and dig on Finding Nemo (Pixar's new movie) a little... it's great, and something an adult would probably appreciate a lot more than a kid.
VeggieTales are good for the young and the young at heart... I loved 'em in college when I was first exposed to them, and I still love 'em now, a few years after, especially with the Jonah movie.

How do you really feel, Josh?
It's not like Big Idea, the company that produces VeggieTales, makes a secret about their mission to promote Biblical values. Are you an athiest/agnostic brainwashing propagandist, or do you just believe what you believe?

Just to note, I have no problem with Veggie Tales. Its a very well done series, but I don't think this is something that you should just prop a kid down in front of as a babysitter. Religion is something you should talk to them about to make sure they fully understand it. Blindly following something just because a book, priest, or Cucumber tells you to is wrong in my opinion.
My son wanted to watch Veggie Tales and I made sure to watch it with him. I didn't find them overly preachy, but they do hit on a lot of things in the bible. My son is still a little young to fully understand Religion, but we talked about the moral values taught which overall I thought was good and things to follow. I wanted to make sure he knew though that Christ, his divinity, and God issues in general are still not fully understood and its something to be studied in more detail.
I'm an agnostic myself, but if he wants to be a Christian I really have no problem as long as he is an informed one. A child can not make that kind of informed decison.

I don't even remotely believe in god , But my kids have all of these tapes and I watched all of them with my kids. I think they are quite funny. I personally think most of the songs are hilarious. The cheeseburger song and Pirates who don't do anything stand out. I like them for my kids because they are not violent and they do teach common values. The god stuff I will let them choose for themselves. I guess I mostly look past that.

The Larryboy series and 3-2-1 Penguins are more moral orientated versus the Veggietales stories which tell a Bible story. If you don't like the Veggietales then try them as they are also by Big Idea and my kids love them as much as the Veggietales videos.
