What Movies Am I Missing?

This always happens to me. I get some extra money to buy a couple dvd's and I can never decide what to get. I don't have the luxury of buying DVD's as much as a lot of people here do so I always think my purchases though about a billion times to make sure I get something I really want.

This time it's kinda tough though. I'm trying to decide on what I need for my collection and have a few things in mind but I'm always open to suggestions. I often look at my DVD's and think I have too many films that suck , like why did I buy American Pie 2 and Gosford Park? I hate watching them. Then I always think Oh I don't have enough classic movies like Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia but then I always hesitate to buy them because I've never seen them and don't want to buy something I may only watch once because it's a "Classic"

So basically my question is what movies would you buy if you were me. What are some essential movies you think I am missing? Heres my collection

http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.ht...=All&id=-Shibs

And here are a few of the movies I'm considering buying today or tomorrow but can't decide if I will or not.

Family Guy Volume 1 (Taping Episodes now so almost pointless till I get more cash)
Good Will Hunting
Clockwork Orange
2001
Spirited Away
Minority Report
Road To Perdition
Resevoir Dogs

If anyone can help me pick some movies please do. Things like this shouldn't be so hard but I make it impossible Thanks for any input anyone gives.

If you are buying titles that you haven't seen yet, only to find that you will only watch them once -- or worse that you 'hate' them (AP2, Gosford Park)... might I suggest that you take that extra money that you have and rent a few titles? Sign up for a month of Netflix and you should be able to rent a good 10+ titles for $20. Then you'll know which ones you want to own next time, and which ones you don't.

That being said, I think your list is a good one really good one. (Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Spirited Away... but many people were and it's a kick-ass DVD presentation.) But, I think your general problem is that you are running out to 'buy' DVDs that you haven't even seen. Take a year or so to rent stuff first (classics and otherwise) and then just buy the ones that you're itching to see again and again.

Suggestions based on what you have:

James Cameron movies (The Abyss, Terminator 1 & 2)
Air Force One
Totall Recall
Predator
Hitchcock Trillers (The 39 Steps, Sabotage, Secret Agent, North by Northwest)

That should keep you entertained for a while

I completely agree with bboisvert. Netflix is the way to go. And sell the like of what you DON'T like but own (e.g. American Pie 2) on www.half.com!

I'd agree with bboisvert, I had the same problem where I was constantly blind buying until had about 20 dvds I watched once and was done with, so I ended up selling those off.

Free trials are great, you get to preview anything you're thinking of getting, avoid a lot of bad blind buys, and find some diamonds in the rough.

Oh yeah not sure if you've seen Ferris or not, but our collections have a fair amount in common and this is one of my favorite movies.

Thanks for the advice. I was actually thinking of signing up for one of the online rental places but I don't think Netflix works in Canada does it? Even if not I think they have some new Canadian based things like Netflix started up here I'll check them out.

I don't blind buy a lot , but a few of my regrets have been from blind buys , or stuff that I bought when I was younger.

I did order Family Guy and a Chuck Palahniuk book online just now so that took away some of my money. I was thinking of not getting the Family Guy set but I really hate having to tape all the episodes then use crappy VCR's

Still have some money left so gonna check out some of the online rental places and maybe buy Minority Report or something since I've been wanting to watch that pretty bad for a while now.

Minority Report is a one shot watch IMO. If you buy it, buy it used!

Family Guy will last you a long time. Highly rewatchable. Reservoir Dogs is great also. One of my faves.

I never did like Minority Report or will I ever see it again.
But if you have to see it, just rent it. I'm not sure how money you have but I will just suggest and of course you will make up your mind from there. I see you that you have lots of part 2's with no part 1.

If do you want to finish those off.

Mission Impossible 1
The Fugitive (U.S. Marshals is part 2 to the The Fugitive)
Lethal Weapon 1,2,3
The Silence of The lambs (part 1 from your Hannibal)
Red Dragon (part 3 from your Hannibal)
Hackers 2
The Original Gone In 60 Seconds

Other titles you might want to look up from telling by your list.

Terminator 1 and 2
Die Hard 1,2,3
Predator
Bad Boys (mind you the 1995 version since theres quite a bit movies named Bad Boys)

heh, I know, thats alot but hey, it's only a suggestion and suggestions never hurt .

Yes, they do. I saw Disturbing Behavior based on one, and that's time I'll never get back.
