in chap 24...at about 1:09:48...during the conversation following Brett's death. Rip says she will go in the vent. it's during the response from Dallas where the defect occurs. just as he starts to scratch his right shoulder area....his next few words are dropped as the picture gives a brief stutter and freeze. it then moves on with no probem. if it's the layer change...it's very different from other changes. in fact...it did it only maybe 2 out of 3 times. a layer change would always do the same thing...I think.

I also tried it on a total of 4 players and it did it off and on. all laser's were cleaned prior. I think a replacement disc would be in order. I really dont want to have to exchange the whole box.

players tested:

Malata 520
Panny S35
Cyberhome 300
Denon 1200
On my Sony DVP-NS900V freezes at same spot 1:09:49

On new freebie JVC X-3SL no freezes??

Needless to say the JVC is not my primary player. This stinks.

ditto on my panasonic dvd-r...seemed like a branching thing as i'm pretty sure that's a new scene. i'll have to try the rest when i get a chance.

nope....that scene has always been there.

it's a similar problem with my copy of Versus. the panny has a hell of a time getting past the layer change. it freezes at the 58min mark every time...and refuses to advance without skipping to the next chapter and rewinding. it's a little better on the other players....but it's a rough change on all.

Finally got a chance to start this set today and I'm running into problems as well. Two MAJOR skips in Ch18 (1:08:47 & 1:10:15). There was some residue (maybe the glue) on the bottom of the DVD, I was able to clean the majority of it off but it still skips about 1/2 the time... sometimes it's a minor "layer- change" delay other times it actually skips back a couple of minutes BTW it's a Sony 5-DVD player that has never had problems w/ any DVD... seems to play fine (atleast those two spots) in a 1st generation Dell laptop DVD though... still annoying as hell

Well the rest of them seem to be ok... Alien4 is still though why couldn't the problem be w/ that one

My Alien Quad from amazon is less than mint. Disc 1 (Alien) has deep eccentric scratches that the movie skips and jumps back. The rest of the 8 discs have finger prints on them. It looks as if they were employing 3 year old who just had a meal to assembly the set.

Needless to say I already requested a replacement set.

With DDD, I got lucky. Only DVD that had a small, but deep scratch was Disc 8 Res extras. I'm afraid to exchange as I would probably get back one more damaged.

My Aliens disc got stuck in different places about 10 minutes from the end, causing my player (a Pioneer 655A aka 45A) to grind to a halt. A replacement is on the way from Amazon...

I had the same problem with disc 8 though I will exchange it since the disc wouldn't play at all.

I better check mine, but since my Alien had no freezes/pixilating at Tr 23/24, I wouldn't exchange it.

Watched the theatrical version last night and didn't have a problem. I'm going to hit the commentary on that one tonight but I'll run it through the special edition (that's what the problem was w/ right) and see if it does the same thing.
