DVD Talk Oscar Predictions!

I know, I know...already posted in another forum, but I figured I'd give this a shot here, too....

I've set up a Group at the Oscar.com site for DVD Talk.

Feel free to sign up at Oscar.com (if you haven't already, please try and use your DVD Talk forum name), click on "Fun & Games" get to the "Predict The Winners" page and search for the group named "DVD Talk" (you might try and filter "ALL").....the password into the group is "Forum"....

Enjoy~

Please do not use this thread to bash the Oscars! This is for fun only!

Prize Added! The winner will receive my mint copy of the original OOP version of the Oscar winning favorite "Rain Man"!

Best picture: Return Of The King
Best Director: Peter Jackson

Best Actor: Bill Murray (I'm guessing it's his one shot in a lifetime and the academy voters will be sentimental....and they don't seem partial to Sean Penn)

Best Actress: Charlize Theron
Best Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins
Best Supporting Actress: Rene' Zellweger

Certainly hope so...i still can't believe how ROTK swept the board virtually at the UK's BAFTA awards yet he failed to win the best director award which went to Peter Weir.

ROTK better win... let it be the first fantasy film to win. So much went into it and it has done so well. I hope those old so and so's at the academy will honor a film that deserves it.

I'm just hoping Johnny Depp wins best actor and LOTR wins for best movie and director. Lost in Translation was good, but does not deserve to win best director!

other then that, bring on da hotties in the short dresses

Those are my exact picks. Great minds...

But I do hope Mr. Depp wins. It would show that the Academy members aren't completely stuck up.

I really hope Murray wins best actor, or maybe, MAYBE, Sean Penn. Johnny Depp deserves an Oscar for his better work, but not for his fantastically mediocre and forgetable film "Pirates of the Caribbean".

As for best film...my vote would be for "Lost in Translation", since I think it's going to be a timeless love story for our generation. However, I'm also realistic and think it'll go to "Return of the King", even though it's not worth an Oscar at all. If you removed the epicness of the LotR series (3 very long films with huge amounts of hype and a 300 million dollar budget), you'd be left with an above average fantasy film.

Epicness doesn't make a movie good, it just makes it bigger.

Errol Morris will win for Best Documentary -- beating out Andrew Jarecki, who directed the far superior Capturing The Friedmans -- and give a sad, self-important speech peppered with moments of spittle-flecked hysteria.

Then Bill Murray will win for Best Actor and serve as a kind of Academy Awards sorbet. At least, I hope so

[Edit: Or not.]

I think this is the first show where there were really no surprises. I got 19 out of 24 correct. Too bad for Depp. Bill Murray looked really pissed when they announced Sean Penn.

The LOTR films are going to sell forever after this...I hope that New Line and their corporate bosses resist the temptation to do any double-dipping with the existing DVDs, at least until the HD-DVD format that is...
