Special features, according to TLA:
Audio Commentary: With Armistead Maupin, Alastair Reed, Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis and Barbara Garrick
Documentaries: Behind-the-scenes, interviews
At 6 hours, I'm guessing this will be a 3-disc set. TLA has the SRP at $59.95.
Oh, and check this out: I'm glad her song is gone, since I no longer approve of Donna Summer.

On a totally different topic, is the film "Madagascar Skin" with John Hannah and Bernard Hill (King Theoden: 'Lord of the Rings'/Captain Edward J. Smith: 'Titanic') still in print on VHS, I would really love to own this on DVD, if and when it gets a release.

So, my choice of gay themed films is somewhat limited because they don't keep things in stock.
I've done a search and have found the following films in stock, and I was hoping that people could give me some input on the DVDs.
I'm interested in your thoughts on the films, and, also comments on the aspect ratio of the film.
Here is the list: (prices in kr)
Beefcake http://us.imdb.com/Title?0187712
Delta (1996) http://us.imdb.com/Title?0116070
Fluffer: Unrated Collector's Edition http://us.imdb.com/Title?0245115
Head On http://us.imdb.com/Title?0138487
Not Angels But Angels http://us.imdb.com/Title?0110690
Postcards From America http://us.imdb.com/Title?0110876
I'm happy to see dv-depot stocking many more gay themed films, and hope they come in stock soon. I have many others on my list that I'd like to get.
I'm still disappointed in the quality of the dvd transfers on some of these films. I still don't understand why widescreen films do not get an anamorphic treatment.
Thanks!
Does anyone know (or recommend) of any alternate DVD internet rental outlets that have a better selection of gay/indie films than Netflix?

They both sounded a bit depressing.
"The Fluffer": One of the worst films I have seen. The director/writer could not make up his mind if he wanted to make a campy film or an over the top melodrama. He fails with the drama. The only part I enjoyed was Debbie Harry's small role as a strip club owner. Rating: 0/4.
I'm still looking forward to the release of "Tales of the City". Although I have enjoyed the other two, the first is the best in my opinion.
Of course there are countless others but these are the only ones i've found in the DV-depot catalog last night.

Best Of Boys In Love
Boxer Shorts
Boyfriends
Boys Briefs 2
Just saw Boys Briefs 2, a collection of shorts hosted by MTV's Real World- Danny Roberts.
The collection is average- AT BEST- but even worse is Danny Roberts. Whatever momentum he had after Real World is all but gone after his wooden and terrible hosting on this DVD. He flubs lines, takes nervous gulps while speaking, and is just plain unwatchable. I am surprised he's a public speaker- for he does an awful job on this DVD. It's not even a cutesy type of nervousness...just plain bad.....almost as if he's just reading cue cards. Watch it and you'll see. Better yet, don't and you'll save some bucks.
I suggest picking up Boys Briefs 1, the collection is better, and the hosting by the two cohosts is more genuine than Roberts'.
Boys Briefs 2 Grade: C-
Aimée & Jaguar (1999) : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0130444
I haven't seen it yet.

And, is the More Tales of the City on DVD? I've found Further Tales, and obviously Tales of the City is out in a few weeks, but I've never seen More Tales.

I can't order from them because their international shipping charges are insane. But I use them as a guide for purchases. (to any TLA people listening.... get a better shipping to Europe and i'd gladly buy from you guys!)
Circuit is surprisingly good; I was reluctant to buy it, but am glad I did. It's not as good as Man of the Year but
not bad at all. Since I've never been to the White Party, can't comment on the accuracy of it.
Burnt Money is not a gay film as such, but one where the principal characters are gay. It is excellent. Get it as soon as you can.
Lilies is another very good film. If you have a Catholic background it's even better, although my partner, who does not, enjoyed too.
When Boys Fly is in the mail, will let you know when it arrives.
All the transfers were pretty good with the possible exception of Head On.
A word of caution regarding TLA Video. I used to buy everything from them and they really screwed me over on an error of theirs. It took my credit card company and the Better Business Bureau to resolve the matter. I now use them only as a source of information and buy from somebody else. If nobody else sells it, I don't buy it. Also, the ONLY floaters I have ever received were the only two movies that they distributed which I have bought: Circuit and Spin the Bottle. Use your own judgment.

I saw Circuit in the theatre and it was just horrible. Rent or buy at your own risk.
I have to say that I did like Beefcake though.
Also, 2 other points and I'm glad you brought them up... Happy endings. I LOVE movies that don't end happily. There is too much of that in mainstream film. I prefer an honest ending (reference count of monte cristo for an example).
And, Burnt Monday. I love movies with gay charaters that are not movies about gay issues. This one sounds perfect, and i'm really looking forward to it. And it also looks like its got a great transfer.
I've only used TLA once, and had an ok experience, But to ship to norway and keep my order under the import limit to avoid VAT, I could only buy 1 disc, and the shipping cost, last time I checked would have been 50 dollars. Thats just insane.
There are some vendors that ship free worldwide, and i prefer to use those. Also Dv-depot has the best shipping worldwide. up to 7 discs is the same shipping cost. In this case about 80 kr.
If I I get 1 disc shipping is 80kr (about 10 dollars), if I get 7, its also 80kr.
And because of the shipping method they use, they are able to get shipments to me that avoid the import limit. Hey Ill take it while I can get it.
And cooper2000, wonderful to see you again. I've been offline at my home for a year.
As the Romulans said in the season finale of TNG first season. "We are a back".
woo hoo!
Lilies is non anamorphic P&S. Too bad, I prefer OAR as well but it's a good enough film to overlook the shortcomings.
Another you might enjoy is Boxer Shorts. Two of the four titles were very good; two were so so and the 'bonus' feature lets you see just how awful something can be.
Of the titles mentioned in the past several posts, Lilies is by far my favorite -- although I suspect it will seem too overwrought and stagey for some people's tastes.
I too would like to find better online DVD sources for both gay indie/foreign and gay adult DVDs... It's still a very under-served market...
Netflix has a decent initial selection, but there are plenty of major gaps and missing titles which they don't seem ever to fill... I've been thinking about trying Greencine, a smaller Netflix clone based (I think) out of San Franscisco-- but I haven't really thoroughly compared their selection, I just know they have a couple key titles that Netflix doesn't... Has anyone tried them?
TLA seems like the best place for information on both indie/foreign and adult titles, but they aren't competitively priced at all. If anyone's got any other suggestions, we'd love to hear them...

Lately, I've had pretty good luck from overstock.com. They seem to have a limited selection, the biggest problem is finding them because all the gay titles are mixed in with the non gay ones. They don't have the most current releases but so far I've had no problems with them billing me for items not shipped (this is something I'm not very forgiving about). Their domestic shipping is also pretty reasonable but expect it to take at least a week for delivery.
I enjoyed "Burnt Money", also -- Eduardo Noriega is always watchable.

I wish TLA had a better ship price structure. Its also a shame that the titles are always over priced, but I would still pay those prices if I could the damn stuff shipped.
As for the quality... well I've been very vocal about that in the past. I think that some of the companies producing material targeted at a gay audience are not making quality product because they feel the market will support them regardless. So I do tend to be picky about what I will buy, however, exceptions are always to be made :-)
Very glad to see this thread moving again. At one time Teomora and I were working on a database of a gay titles. I still have that database, but Teomora has dropped off the face of the planet. Has anyone had contact?
I'll start with a couple I thought were ridiculously bad:
Laguna Beach: A Love Affair (too boring for words)
Boys of Cellblock Q (very bad campy B-movie)
...and one that I had high hopes for but personally was very disappointed in:
But I'm A Cheerleader
