Being a "nothing" movie is one of the main reasons why a lot of DVDs become so valuable.

"Nothing" films usually don't get multiple versions, special editions, etc. They get one shot. And with that one shot there are only a limited number of units sent into the marketplace in comparison to more popular films because the company putting out the DVD knows there won't be as big a demand. This makes them rare right from the start. Then after a while, as the company suspected, there is little to no demand so they halt production and the DVD goes out of print. Now out of print -- demand quickly skyrockets as the once too small fanbase of the film competes with each other for the limited supply that remains...

But I think with "Split Second" you can substitute the word "nothing" for "terrible".

It's hard to believe there is a huge collector market for a bad movie. That movie dosen't even really have much cult appeal.

The reviews on IMDB are for the most part pretty positive. The people that like it seem to _really_ like it and those that don't -- well you appear to be one of them ;-)

I personally thought it was a mixed bag.... but that's not really what this thread is for, now is it? I'll bet you'll become a bigger fan of the film if you find it used in a store somewhere and can sell it to someone who thinks more highly of the film than you do!

I noticed tonight that prices are up a bit on The Mask of Zorro - the only copy if the SE is listed at $22.99.

I checked kazart's list and sure enough it went OOP on 1/21/05 - kind of unusual for Col/Tri star discs - no longer available at DDD or from Columbia House.

The non-se is also selling for a little more money - starting at $14 on Amazon, not big money but about double what it was a few months ago.

Do you mean a new SE or a re-release of the same SE? I don't see any details yet on the re-release thread - do you have a link? Thanks.

Removed Casino and The Jerk (which has a 26th anniv edition - huh? - coming out in July).

If you have copies of To KIll a Mockingbird or The Blues Brothers, sell them now - still fetchiing good money at Amazon, but new releases coming in August and September.

This hasn't been resurrected in a while, but you can add Short 5 - Diversity to the list. Trading at 40 bucks or so, and I picked it up used at FYE for 7.99.

Where the Buffalo Roam has been released by Universal. While some people may be asking premium prices for the OOP Anchor Bay disc, they won't sell.

Not to mention My Left Foot is about to be reissued. I had a new OOP version from a while back and it took for ever to sell, finally selling for less than $40.

Re: War of the Worlds. Unload them quick though, as a reissued version will be due out when the new Speilberg version hits DVD in a few months.

Come on, guys - let's not allow this list to fall by the wayside. I know a bunch of us have made a lot of cash (subsidizing our collections?) from this list, so if we can get the ball rolling keeping it as up to date as possible, that would benefit all of us. NCYankee, are you still up for maintaining this thread?

I also heard Fantastic Planet has gone OOP. A fine sci-fi film from Anchor Bay that might be worth some $ down the road, and might get hard to find soon.

I also must add that Transformers - the Movie is now OOP. I've seen many at Gamestops. I sold one for $40 a couple of weeks ago. the cheapest right now is $27.25 at Amazon. Also from Rhino Kids are the Jem season sets. They're out of print and increasing in price rapidly.

Finally, Criterion has announced The Harder They Come will be OOP soon.

That's all I know about for now!

Thanks slowcloud - according to their website, there is a Transformers dvd at the Gamestop nearest me - must grab that today.

Wewantflair - if you or anyone else wants to take over updating the list, feel free to cut and paste the first post into another thread - I will leave this thread up as a reference. The last several months I have been dealing TV seasons I get at Gamestop's buy 2 get 1 free sales - not the big profits from finding some OOPs cheap, but a consistent $10-15 average per item and its easy to get inventory.

I will update the frst post shortly with the latest additions.

Ya, it's weird that 1984 is already OOP. Does anyone have the scoop as to why it got pulled relatively shortly after its release? Legal issues?

Sorry about not updating the first post - been busy - but I figure anyone who is interested is following the thread as it develops.

I spotted another one going for $20 and up at Amazon and half

Le Dernier Combat

I snagged this one at a pawn shop a while ago for $4 or so - had never heard of it, but it looked unusual and interesting (and was directed by Luc Besson) so thought it might be of some value.

I also noticed Leon : Superbit listed at $43 at Amazon, but I find it hard to believe anyone is actually buying it at that price, considering the 2-disc deluxe version is the same international cut of the film and is superbit. Also, it is listed as low as $12 at half.

Amazon Marketplace definately isn't a place to look when deciding if something is rare and/or valuable. People on there seem to be exhorbinant prices on their stuff, hoping that some schmuck that buys only from Amazon will get it. I've heard of people putting $1000+ on discs that go on eBay and half for less than $100.
