Here is a new one:

When I bought The Cook... as you see above in my previous post, I bought two of these from Circuit City for $9.99 each. I put them up on eBay tonight at a fixed price of $49.99, and in less than an hour the same guy bought both of them from me.

Some people still think OOP = Valuable. $50 for an obsolete version of the movie? No thanks. The 2 minute difference betwen the two is hardly worth $50 to me, anyway.

In The Warriors case obsolete shouldn't apply as this was the original theatrical version and may be desirable to some.

I'd not want to pay $50 for it though....I bought it when it came out for $20 and also have the new release.

And to some it is worthwhile. Heck, I know some collectors out there who will buy a DVD if the packaging is different, never mind what's on the DVD. What is key is how hard it is to find. That's what gets collectors going. Sometimes it doesn't even matter how crappy the movie might be. It's what they always say in collecting: "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

That's an unhealthy obsession, IMO. The original Paramount release is obsolete in the way of presentation. Theatrical cut, sure, but it's barebones with 2.0 Stereo, as opposed to a new transfer, 5.1 DD, 4 featurettes, and a deleted scene. Nobody really flipped out over the new "Blues Brothers" DVD re-release, selling off their original Universal's, which were Director's Cuts, in favor of the new flipper with the theatrical version.

To each his own, I suppose.

Some people don't like the new changes in the current version of the Warriors. If you grew up watching a movie one way, and that's how you remember it, and how you like the movie then a new version with a bunch of changes isnt going to be what you want.

So it's not obsolete in this particular case.

If there was an official DVD release of the original versions of Star Wars, and it was OOP and somewhat rare (especially new) and replaced with the new versions, you know good and well that the price would go way up.

The same is for this version of The Warriors. There are some huge fans of that movie out there, so $50 doesn't totally surprise me when I think about it.

I'm not totally sure the guy who bought them from me was a fan though. Why would someone buy two of the exact same movie, both sealed, for that much? I suppose if they had a friend or something, or maybe they did it just in hopes that the price goes up. I set that price myself, seeing that there aren't any other sealed ones on eBay, and none have been sold in the completed items either (until my auction). They might think they can make even more off of them, I don't know.

I think it is unhealthy to have a greater focus on extras and technical specs so much so that the film itself is only a minor point... if mattering at all.

Nice profit Brent! $99 for a $6 disc is awesome! I always check out your auctions to see if I can find whatever it is your selling in my neck of the woods.

Oh yeah, on Transformers too!

I guess that Panther DVD just flat out goes for around $100 now. Mine went for $99, and the only other one that had sold on eBay a while back went for $100.

Also, while I expected the Transformers sets to do well, I had no f'n clue that they would go that high! Two of them, two seperate sets, went for $100+ and the others went for $50+ each. The Transformers movie went for $48 before shipping, which also shocked me.

I can't complain right now.

Now to see how my Hot Blooded will do on eBay...

Irony of ironies, the last completed "Panther" that was available was probably, you guessed it...mine!

My "Panther" DVD. Bought it for $5, sold it for $80 in less than 4 1/2 hours after I obtained it. It's one of many insanely rare discs I've come across in my pawn shop hunts. I just sold "Transformers: The Movie" last night for $40, got it for $11..not too shabby.

Why would this DVD be in demand? Cause her boob is hanging out while she's kickin'?

Wow.
Well, someone just bought this one from me too for $79.99/BIN. On my pictures, I still had the CC price sticker on it that said $9.99, and someone sent me an offer for that price last night, heh.

How do I tell the recalled version of Ed Wood ? According to half.com, they both have the same UPC - of course, this could be an error.

Edit - never mind, the guy at half has his copy mislisted - I see the different cover art and UPC. I thought it was like The Devil's Advocate where the cover was identical.

The cover is the same, the recalled "Ed Wood" has a silver spine, though.

So then this isn't thecover art for the recalled version? Because this is the version they show at mx123.com :

Ed Wood SE

What about the UPC/spine number?

That's a common misconception. Some light gray (not silver) spines do not have the cross-dressing documentary and are worth just as much as the newer black spine version, also without the doc. I have first-hand experience with this, and it's a well known fact on several threads that bring up this DVD. The DVDs with light gray spines (recalled and reissued), case text, disc and all are identical. It's a good idea to snatch one up at Gamestop and test it out, as they have a customer-friendly return policy, within a week.

That was the first Ed Wood DVD, with less extras (not even deleted scenes). It was recalled when director Tim Burton said he wanted to get invovled. It is extrememly rare and there are still collectors that would give their right arm for it. The second release is more common, with the cross-dressing featurette, which was recalled because Burton did not approve it.

I still remember getting mine sealed in shrinkwrap with two big greasy fingerprints on one of the discs. I think they just took the discs out of the old keepcases and put them in the cheap white plastic digipacks with no collectible booklets - why they would do that I have no idea.
NCYankee,

Sorry, took that long to answer your inquiry (I need to get proof and comparison).

There were indeed 2 releases of Army of Darkness: Boomstick Edition

1. 1st Edition, was the one with the "Limited" 8 page collectible booklet entitled "Join The Army"

2. 2nd edition release is without the 8page collectible booklet

All Boomstick Edition DVD with the promo "Win dinner with Bruce Campbell- dated 3/11/03 until 5/15/03" comes with the 8page booklet.

bottomline: The price value is soaring at $40Low-$100High (opened/sealed), just by a mere "8page collectible booklet"

For collector's who are in a hunt for the Army of Darkness: Boomstick Edition, make sure that the one your gettin is with the "Limited 8 page Collectible Booklet". It is best advised to check the package or ask the seller if the booklet is included.

Below are the photo of the AOD:Boomstick Edition:

Xage,

Good job. NCYankee, if you go back to post #320, you will see my sealed boomstick copy. That is the one you need to be on the lookout for. Like Xage said, it will have 2 stickers on it, one on the front and one on the back. Those are the ONLY ones that will have the "Join The Army" insert. Yes, they are hard to find, and even harder to find sealed. Here's a quick look at mine.
