I wouldn't have given this first Seinfeld set the DTCS rating either, the Highly Recommended rating is perfectly fine for it. I'd leave the DTCS rating for only the truly special sets/collections. On the other hand though, when looking at something like GG getting the highest rating, it doesn't *look* right when something so much better than it, like this Seinfeld set, gets a lower rating.

But blah, this all means pretty much nothing in the end, and most of us know that it's just opinion.

It's a classic show that is winning new fans around the world, years after taping its final episode. I may buy the first season since it has always been a favorite. But I also was surprised at the generous DTCS rating given there are few extras (couldn't they have done a short featurette on how the series came together or at least include one commentary, even if all the principals did not participate?).

According to the record, these three sets belong in the same class...

Alien Quadrilogy (9 discs of Alien goodness!)
The Matrix Ultimate Collection (10 discs of Matrix madness!)
The Golden Girls, Season 1 (Huh?)

Something doesn't seem right there...

Guys, the above really isn't appropriate for this thread or this forum.

*this is a prime example of how to separate your appreciation of a show from your evaluation of a DVD release.

If anything comes of these sarcastic requests, move this thread to the "Visual Ipecac" forum.

Re: Golden Girls Season 1 gets DVDTalk Collector's Series rating

I wonder if anyone's Golden Girls feelings have changed in the past 5 years, what with the death of half the cast and Betty White's pop culture reemergence. All I can say is that my wife (who I met about a year after this thread died) LOVES "The Golden Girls" and I watched a few episodes with her and found myself enjoying the show a LOT more than I remembered. Go figure.

Although the image of Bea Arthur lifting her skirt and bats flying out from her hoo-hah to the "Scooby Doo" theme is STILL making me pee meself with mirth.

Re: Golden Girls Season 1 gets DVDTalk Collector's Series rating

I've always been a huge Golden Girls fan. It was one of the most sharply written and comicly timed sitcoms of the 80s and early 90s. I can't imagine such a senior cast being given the same type of series today, not to mention many of the social issues they tackled were groundbreaking. The show, especially in its early years will always be a 5/5 for me.

You know, I'm a lot more forgiving of The Golden Girls now than I was in 2004. Not that I would award it the highest rating, but goddamn the show provides some mirth and merriment. I have no love for Empty Nest though.

We watched an episode out of the blue the other day and it was still so much fun to watch. That really was an incredible bit of serendipity to bring those four together.

I've been saying "Hi, it's me, Stan!" for the past 15 years. Talk about the unsung hero of the show. He and Bea Arthur had some real comedic chemistry.
