Well, the theory in the quoted section did eventually come true... so maybe this is a last laugh sort of thing?

Wannabe is quoting the part of Stein's article which turned out to seem quite prescient, not a post of his own.

Yes, thank god I can now 'pull up' any movie ever made at a moment's notice, in perfect quality, for free any time I like.

Sad that someone actually makes money writing tripe like that. -kd5-

Let me quote a portion that's not so prescient:

Re: Hey you DVD twits: Pause, review, get a life

Is there anyone on here who invested in DVDs for the purpose of re-selling? I hope not, as I assumed the active posters here bought the movies to watch not to sell...this is why I still buy VHS tapes, I just want the damn movie and at 10 cents it's a great way to buy something I've never seen. Then if I like it enough, I'll add it to my wish list and buy it on DVD or Blu-ray (whichever comes first/cheapest) when I find it...

Not me. We quit cable 2 years ago (never looked back) and I've been collecting favorite movies/TV shows on DVD since just before that, so we have something good to watch instead of those 65 channels of SHIT we used to pay $60 a month for. I may not have nearly as many as some of you but I'm proud of my collection just the same. -kd5-

I gave up on cable five years ago. My Signature bears witness to what $65.00 (The amount of money I used to pay each month before I "Cut the Cord") can purchase.

Re: Hey you DVD twits: Pause, review, get a life

I started reading and noticed this was six years old.

Is there anyone on here who invested in DVDs for the purpose of re-selling?
Nope, however I dislike the idea of buying anything that drops too much, which is why I will not go around spending twenty dollars for new movies when I can get them much cheaper in awhile later. However, there are tons of things we spend money on each month that we cannot use again. Internet service, fuel, cable, food etc... I do like buying two dollar DVDs at pawn shops, even newer films.

I was just thinking about all this lately and in the end the way I store movies hardly takes up any room and they were either cheap or not currently worth anything so as long as I like the film to some degree or could see myself watching it down the line I might as well hang on to it. Even selling some in a lot is not worth the time and trouble. It is nice having ones own little personal library. (Still within reason though)

The idea of buying movies, toys, etc... to later resell is not a good idea. I buy items I like and enjoy, that is the purpose. I just like to save money and get the most I can.
