A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home: March 2006
A very reliable source i met on Hometheaterforum has recieved some insider info that states Snoopy Come Home (1972) and A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969) are heading to dvd in MArch 2006.

A little insider info... It's going to be a pretty dry year for catalog titles. I heard low sales has more or less killed any hopes of getting older titles released. Expect a lot of "special editions" of titles already released as well as more TV sets. Of the titles I saw mentioned in this thread: A Boy Named CB and Snoopy Come Home should be out in March, and African Queen is on the slate... but it's almost a year away.

Cool. I don't remember these at all, but in the past two weeks I have picked up 6(holiday pack, 3 more from DDD sale) of the classic tv specials. Needless to say I am on a Charlie Brown kick and I'm looking forward to it.

I made my own DVD-R set of the four movies to tide me over. "Bon Voyage" and "Race For Your Life" have been run on HBO/Cinemax a few times in recent months.

Does the OP know if 'A Boy Named Charlie Brown' will contain the original theatrical scenes that have been cut from all other home video releases? It would be nice to finally see the 85 min. version.
Also, if anyone is really hungry for most of the specials, the R0 Chinese 20 disc double box set is quite nice and is legit- but I don't know how much the Schulz estate benefits from it.

UK "Snoopy Come Home" DVD Released
Paramount released the movie Snoopy Come Home on DVD in the UK on July 12, and it is now available.
The DVD is identical to the Australian release of the title from earlier this year. The movie is presented in fullscreen, and is not restored or a new transfer - it uses exactly the same transfer as the US VHS release of Snoopy Come Home, and is very average as a result.
All the Peanuts theatrical movies were originally created in the 4:3 aspect ratio, so the aspect ratio of this DVD is not necessarily incorrect - however, the movie may have been presented in a widescreen aspect ratio when it was shown in theaters.
No extras are included on the DVD, although in addition to English, the audio is available in three other languages - Spanish, German, and Italian. Even the songs are sung in the alternate languages! Italian subtitles are included as well. List price is £12.99.
There are still no plans for a US release of any of the Peanuts theatrical movies at this time.
Note that UK DVDs are in PAL video format, so most North American players cannot play UK DVDs. (August 10, 2004)

At last! A Boy Named Charlie Brown was the first feature film I went to see 'way back in 1969! I was about to make a DVD from a VHS tape that I made back in 1894!

As to the movie length... there are two edits of "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" - an 85 minute version and and a 79 minute version. However, the shorter 79 minute version is not just a simple edit with some scenes removed. In addition to the excised scenes, there are scenes with different background music and even slightly different animation. And there's even an official script for the shorter version (calling it the "revised" version). So it seems that after the initial, longer version was released in theaters, a shorter, but still "official," release was created for reasons that are lost in the mist of time, and that's what has ended up on US VHS releases.
The most significant differences are three minutes where Lucy pulls the football away from Charlie Brown and shows him an instant replay of his fall as part of her psychiatric treatment, and one minute missing when Charlie Brown orders room service from the hotel late at night while preparing for the National Spelling Bee. One verse of the "I before E except after C" song was also removed...
However, the longer version has been broadcast by the BBC in the UK a few times in the past couple of years, so not all prints of it have been destroyed. The BBC airings have also been in widescreen.
It would be great news if the DVDs of the first two movies really are coming (especially since the VHS releases are essentially out of print), and if Paramount remastered them and released the "long" version of "A Boy Named Charlie Brown," regardless of which aspect ratio they choose to release them in. I haven't heard anything one way or another yet.
