I was hoping for an extended cut. I liked the movie but thought it felt rushed. Oh well, I'll probably get this one.

I will not be buying this. I'm still upset "Rocky" beat "Network" for Best Picture.

Are we seriously even discussing the 1977 Oscars? Taxi Driver should have won Best Picture, DeNiro should have won Best Actor. It's a travesty that Rocky won that year, just a complete misfire by the voters.

I totally disagree. Saw both movies and Rocky owns Taxi Driver for free IMO.

That's because Rocky owns Network, one of the most overrated movies of all time. Take away the mad as hell line and there isn't anything memorable about it.

I got my copy of Rocky a few days ago. The only thing I have yet to watch is the commentary by Stallone. The deleted scenes are decent, curious why some of them were cut. The alternate ending is all right, but they used some crappy music in it. The making of is about 17 minutes and all right, would have liked to have seen a 60 or 90 minute documentary, but hey watch all the featurettes for a nice little featurette. I think that was it. It was nice seeing it again, and there are no trailers or TV spots they do have some previews for things like Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man 2.1 and some others as well.

I've listened to some of Stallone's commentaries and he's actually really articulate in analyzing his movies.

I'm actually really looking forward to picking this up and learning more on his decision to make this movie.

As far as I know, he only did a commentary on the first film

That's because it's a temp track.

After watching the alt. ending, Stallone made the right choice with the one he put in the film.

I read a review of the dvd, and the reviewer said that in the commentary Stallone mentions that there will be a director's cut of the movie somewhere down the line.

The review is up at LatinoReview.com

Yeah, I read that too from someone on StalloneZone.com who watched the commentary. I waited on the commentary for when I buy it on Tuesday.

I think the commentary was made at the time of the film's release, rather than during the creation of the DVD. Stallone refers to a deleted scene he's going to put "in the director's cut". That scene is in the deleted scene section of the disc.

I hope he doesn't make a director's cut...none of the deleted footage really adds to the movie...I think the film is fine the way it is.

Not to threadjack, but when the heck was this thing in theaters? I remember lots of buzz about this movie being in production, then the next thing I know I'm seeing 'Coming on DVD this Tuesday'. commercials.

I am pretty sure Rocky Balboa opened the day before X-mas or on X-mas day 2006. So it took just over 2 months to make it to dvd...

The release date was December 20th...I remember seeing it a few days before Christmas.
Also, I just posted my review of the DVD yesterday. Check it out here.

Good review Randy, but one nitipick: "Adrian's" opened seven years before she died. It opened in 1995. Adrian died in 2002. Stallone says on the commentary track that Adrian's was in fact HER restaurant and not Rocky's...which is why the only boxing thing in it is the Apollo/Rocky painting on the back wall. He did say that Rocky turned it into a shrine for Adrian after her death (hence, all the photos of her on the walls)...but that wasn't the original reason the restuarant opened.

Thanks for clarifying...I'll patch up that paragraph.
