Anyone else find "I'll pass, I'm waiting for Bluray/HD-DVD" irratating?
Seems like everytime a new or old film gets a new release, there are people here that apparently feel the need to post this: "I'll pass, I'm waiting for Bluray/HD-DVD " Isn't this basically a threadcrap? Why? I'm not fighting new technology, I own an HD TV. However these comments don't help people regarding regular DVD releases.

I'm not bothered by it. I don't really view it as threadcrapping either...they're just expressing hope that the film comes out in a different format.

It is a bit irritating, mainly because there is no need for it. It is a form of threadcrapping, in that the members posting that are going out of their way to say they aren't interested in the thread subject. Why even bother to post it? Why not just move on? It serves no purpose to say that you're waiting for the HD-DVD. It's as useful as saying, "I'm waiting for a better movie to come out, this one sucks."

I'm not going to read this thread until it's released on HD-DVD. Thanks!
But seriously, I don't care about those kind of post that much. It's not like someone jumping in saying that this film sucks whenever there's an announcement for a DVD release.

I wouldn't call it threadcrapping per se, as it does not address the film itself, but rather the format or media on which it is to be (or not to be) released.
I do agree with you though, I never found that comment adds anything to the discussion.
Incidentally, there was a similar thread last year on Home Theater Forum, so I suppose there are others who feel these comments to be unneccessary and superfluous.

So is it ok if people say "Im going to pass because of...(anything other than waiting to buy it on BD/HD)" ??? This was happening way before HD/BD came out.

Anyone else find thread titles that are not what the thread is about annoying. Oh, and I am one of those people that will check a release and if it is not also coming out in one of the HD formats I usually state I will wait, if I post anything at all. It is no different than all those (probably alot in this thread) that constantly state they are waiting for a winner. There is no reason to have a thread in DVDTalk for a regular edition and a thread in HD talk for the respective HD editions. One thread is enough IMHO. That is why so many people post that in the threads.

Cool New Members who joined in 2004.
Dont contribute an average of 10 posts per year and then complain about people who dont positively contribute.
anyway...whats the difference when people respond that they dont like that the DVD is bare bones and they will wait until a better version comes out? there is none.

Kinda like I'm not buying a star wars film for at least 35 years until its released on some future holographic format complete with a personal apology letter from the estate of george lucas and I'm too old and comatose to enjoy it. Yeah, that is kinda annoying.

I'm still buying just as many DVDs as I do HD DVDs and Blu-ray. However, some movies really scream to be on a HD release. If its a movie I see as being worth waiting for in HD I will wait. Does it really matter if someone says that? Oh well, off to buy more SD Criterion DVDs while the sale is still on.

I do get bothered, if you like the movie enough you should be able to buy the SD, now if the movie is avaiable on SD and HD/Blu-Ray then fine, get the HD/Blu-Ray then.

Not bothered by it at all. What I don't get are threads where the OP asks "Will 'x' ever be released on dvd"? or "When will 'x' be released on dvd?". I'm taking about stuff completely off the radar. How would we know? I've been tempted to reply Feb. 29, 2009 or something.
By the way, will Universal ever release Mirage? And when is Telefon being released?

Good ideas, eh?
