Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD
Warner's Archive Site is now distributing an additional 149 tittles formally from Sony's Columbia Classics MOD program. The one upside is it makes it a little easier to find all the MOD titles available. The downside is less competition, less chance of price reductions.
I'm not clear if Warners is part of any decision making of what new products will come out under the Columbia banner. I believe for the approximate 2 years it existed, Columbia only released new titles in 3 waves, the first with 100 titles and then about 9 months intervals with 25 titles each. Also not clear if Warners is doing the manufacturing- they are regarded as the best quality MOD studio.

The big questions is, will the Sony/ Columbia MOD discs be included in future sales? I've had my eye on several titles, but they price has to come down a la the 5 for $50 sale for me to bite.

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD
Both Warner and Sony have been using Deep Discount to prepare and ship their on-demand titles for a while. If you order directly off the Warner site, Archive titles and regular titles ship separately and they calculate shipping separately (for those free shipping over $50 offers).
DD had the Sony titles on sale last month for just under $12 apiece, the lowest price I'd ever seen. My guess is that Warner will either include the Sony titles in their periodic Archive sales or run separate sales on the Sony titles.

Ken Russell's Savage Messiah is slated for a 'Remastered' release 5/27/11 through Amazon. WB says they have it available as of 4/12/11.
